Golumless
A bigger deal out west.
You rate Murphy but want us to move on from Gollant and McAdam?
I'm not sure that's a view shared by too many on here.
Yup, though it's not so much about who I rate, more what I reckon pushes Adelaide closer to a premiership. This seems like a case where the best result is lowering our salary cap output from the forward line. After all, we've shown this year we don't need McAdam to get to an offense that is at the upper echelons of the laegue, and it's unlikely we'll see any major moves from our forward line for the next 2-3 years. Mainly Rachele moving to being a permanent mid-forward, with Pedlar remaining a 5-6th mid. This makes McAdam is a luxury player in our setup seeing we're not chasing goal kicking and you don't pay for defensive work.
Not only that, but McAdam is the type of player a club desperate for goalkicking is going to love and pay up for. From my cheap seat, it seems like retaining McAdam is the type of decision that a club who is shit scared of losing players makes, to find themselves eventually slammed up against the ceiling of a salary cap, and unable to pay players they need to keep. Bit like the situation we find ourselves in with Doedee in that sense.
For Adelaides needs - Murphy is the right player at the right time. A bottom forward who's worked out how to be somewhat productive in a list that needs a somewhat productive and cheap bottom forward to suppliment their elite talents.
And for Gollant? I like the kid. However, he's only winning a best 22 spot here now if something goes critically wrong. After all, he's a slow-ish tall forward in a lineup that boasts Fog/Thilthorpe as the main guys in the future and a year off from picking up Welsh. I'd have been interested in us trading him and getting another ruck/forward prospect just to give a point of difference that could be useful mid-term. Especially with how this draft is shaking out.
