You rate Murphy but want us to move on from Gollant and McAdam?

I'm not sure that's a view shared by too many on here.

Yup, though it's not so much about who I rate, more what I reckon pushes Adelaide closer to a premiership. This seems like a case where the best result is lowering our salary cap output from the forward line. After all, we've shown this year we don't need McAdam to get to an offense that is at the upper echelons of the laegue, and it's unlikely we'll see any major moves from our forward line for the next 2-3 years. Mainly Rachele moving to being a permanent mid-forward, with Pedlar remaining a 5-6th mid. This makes McAdam is a luxury player in our setup seeing we're not chasing goal kicking and you don't pay for defensive work.

Not only that, but McAdam is the type of player a club desperate for goalkicking is going to love and pay up for. From my cheap seat, it seems like retaining McAdam is the type of decision that a club who is shit scared of losing players makes, to find themselves eventually slammed up against the ceiling of a salary cap, and unable to pay players they need to keep. Bit like the situation we find ourselves in with Doedee in that sense.

For Adelaides needs - Murphy is the right player at the right time. A bottom forward who's worked out how to be somewhat productive in a list that needs a somewhat productive and cheap bottom forward to suppliment their elite talents.

And for Gollant? I like the kid. However, he's only winning a best 22 spot here now if something goes critically wrong. After all, he's a slow-ish tall forward in a lineup that boasts Fog/Thilthorpe as the main guys in the future and a year off from picking up Welsh. I'd have been interested in us trading him and getting another ruck/forward prospect just to give a point of difference that could be useful mid-term. Especially with how this draft is shaking out.

I do love this board

"Why can't we be more ruthless with trades like Port to improve the list"

A 29-year old sporadic fringe player requests a trade

"This is outrageous. We must keep this guy who played 7 games for us this year ... WHATEVER IT TAKES DERP DERP."
Who we bringing in with the McAdam pick?

Perhaps save the DERP for what we do with it, clearly you must think will

What if we were to get 2 second round picks for him and doods and were able to package up them with other second round picks to get pick 4 from gc and maybe aplayer ie hollands ?

Yeah, not seeing the connection here.

It's not like Murphy is taking McAdams spot in the team and it not like there isn't a list spot for McAdam now Murphy is signed.
I disagree that Murphy wasn't taking his spot. obviously they could play both, but that means pushing one of Pedlar, Rachele, Keays.

I think you’d want your clubs draft team to have a flow chart of some kind when it comes to using first round draft picks:

1. Do you have elite midfielders? If yes, move to Question 2. If no, use said first round draft picks to draft/trade in an elite mid.

2. Do you have elite key forwards? If yes, move to Question 3. If no, use said first round draft picks to draft/trade in a key forward.

3. Do you have elite general forwards/general backs? If yes, move to Question 4. If no, use said first round draft picks to draft/trade in general forwards/backs.

4. Do you have elite KPDs? If yes, then use first round draft picks to draft/trade any elite talent available. If no, use first round draft picks to trade in KPDs. Do not go to draft but pull a Melbourne and poach the best available KPDs you can.

Note: never use first round draft picks on unproven Rucks.

I like your thinking but not sure they come labelled that easily. Obviously there are 1-2 each year project to be in the top 4. Generally though we aren’t in that space

Pick 1 - Thilthorpe - who were the elite mids that year. Will Phillips (North) and Elijah Hollands (GC)

Pick 4 - Rachele. - Finn Callaghan. And that was it

So it isn’t as easy as it sounds - and if not elite then not much of an upgrade

When did McAdam become a 29 year old back up player and not a valuable member of our forward line?

Different player to Gollant.

As for some bold list move, given he left us, how is it us being proactive?

I love the way McAdam goes about it - arguably our most aggressive player

But our forward line functioned well without him for the 15-16 games he wasn’t there.

So “bold” list management in terms of we probably weren’t going to overpay given his challenges to stay on the park - never played more than 15 games. I know he was very unlucky this year but that’s v every year.

I just hope we get something useful for him

A lot of chat about McAdam but nothing on the rumour that ROB needs to study in Melbourne to continue his university, what is he studying, medicine?

This is outrageous!!

If we didn't sign Murphy we'd be able to up ROB's contract and keep him.

Yeah if we end up with 4x 2nd rounders to go with our 1st, we need to go hard for pick #4... & Suns may be keen for us to take Hollands to free up their cap.

Would they take the 4x 2nd rounders for pick #4 & Hollands? Gives them plenty of points for the 3 players they need to match bids on.

He’ll be 29 at the start of next season when his age will next be relevant. He’s a back up player because he played 5 reserves games compared to 7 seniors games.

And the bold list move is not shitting our pants and giving him the 3 years so he’ll stay, which is the same mistake we made Jenkins and Tippett I.e. whatever it takes derp derp

Do GC need that many more picks?

They have 3 players they want to bid on, so points are more important to them... & they are looking to free up cap space.
