Having a medium marking forward like him in the side does add to the unpredictability of our forward line, rather than just talls and smalls. Plus it allows guys like Rash, Peds, Rankine to push up the ground more if needed

But ultimately I’m not sure it’s the best use of draft capital, given he’d cost our first in-contract
It only makes any sense if it's next year when he's both out of contract and a RFA.

What?

This guys career average is slightly better than Gary Rohan, if we give up a first for him we as well give up.

We don't need to get rid of it. There are going to be SA boys potentially taken ahead of Welsh.

Our mistake over the years has been not hitting the right drafts

Bingo.

It would be annoying pushing draft capital back a year given we’re trying to win now, but it does make sense in terms of what is available in the draft pool.

I’m keen to move our raft of seconds into some more future firsts, to get highly rated SA and Vic Country midfield talent in the door before Welsh is bid on (given it doesn’t look like we can get that midfield quality in this year’s draft).

Yeah - we could auction off the north pick potentially to try for a F1 from a contending side this year on draft night

That’s beside the point, Sydney will want a premium for a player in contract, plus will remember Dawson
The compo they would get in 12 months would be around 30-ish. We shouldn't even consider it if it costs us a pick inside the 25.

I doubt sydney are that unrealistic, but if they want to trade in spite, fine we'll just wait 12 months.

I'd rather see more of cook anyway.

Let Cook cook

Triple M is suggesting that we've asked about the McAdam trade including Petty coming to us. I know someone else said it in the McAdam thread but a completely baseless rumour like that deserves to be here too.
Can’t see that getting up. Reid would deserve a medal if it did

9 news just said that we definitely do want a player and not draft picks. They mentioned Petty too but that part sounded more like speculation.

Going to have to give up a fair bit for a contracted player in really what is not an area of great need. Not out of contract or a RFA until 2024.

Maybe - and I think unlikely - but maybe a salary dump by the Swans. If they have Grundy coming in on $600k and maybe some other large target

Having said that I think the Swans need all the forward targets they can get and couldn’t really afford to lose him.

I liked Hayward in his draft year and thought we should have taken him instead of Gullucci.
But now we have Gollant and Cook waiting in the wings to have a go up forward, we don't really need him anymore.
And being contracted to Sydney doesn't make for a cheap trade this year
