I think many here would rather keep Doedee.

But at a cheaper contract than the potential before the knee.

These other clubs might have the same thought.

If he does go, it is a position we can cover quite well. Hinge slotted into that role quite well. Worrell as support was good too.

I really like the Dood, but we have cover for him, and the knee(s)... so if there is outside interest... take it and run.

The only reason we're even contemplating keeping him are the injuries to Butts & Murray, which have resulted in our KPD depth being severely tested. It's readily apparent that he's a fairly limited player at AFL level - he's not bad, but he really doesn't have a high ceiling. With Borlase having already spent 3 years on the rookie list, we have to upgrade him to the senior list if we are to retain him.

The club is currently casting a wide net, looking to see what cheap backup KPD options are available - and what they would cost us. Ideally, we sign one as a DFA, and put them on the rookie list. If they can come up with an alternative, who is even marginally better than Borlase, then they'll sign them.

Borlase is a reasonable backup plan, but for now the decision about his fate is being determined elsewhere.
Also we are like... absolute machines at turning rookie KPD's into good players.

I reckon we jut do that going forward with all rookie slots. Turn it into a factory process.

If we got Chol…

Id be running with TT and Chol sharing a ruck/forward position between them. Do it all year.

And put ROB in the SANFL for the year and hope he asks for a trade at the end of next year to get his stupid contract off the books.

His best asset is his marking prowess around the ground and in the last two seasons thats been hot and cold.
I think that if ROB fell from favour that much, a trade would offer the club the most value.

We bag the big fella here on bf (me too) but he'd get snapped up if on the market.

Well…

If ya think about it.. he’d instantly gell with the midfields of any and every other club in the comp..

After all… He’s been tapping it straight to them all for years now…

So apparently Sydney, Collingwood and Brisbane are interested in Doedee even after 2 ACLs. 2 clubs in the top 4 and 1 perpetual finalist who played in a GF last year.
Yeah not sure if this is accurate or management smoke
Yet apparently he's useless and easily replaced.

I always find the differences between BigFooty supporters and the footy industry (Doedee, Murphy, Hinkley etc) interesting.
Yet people openly believe shitrucks like Morris and McClure.

Go figure

And they are the only team to do so in the last decade+.

Ruck has historically been a position you just need someone to do a job cheaply, and not one that's required an elite talent. Equally, moving a potential generation KPF to play ruck is the height of stupidity.
Think him more being a midfielder that we spent pick 2 on, rather than a ruck that we spent pick 2 on. His best attributes are his contested marking, his fast hands and his groundwork. A mid/ruck/forward if you will.

Good player but was easily replaced by Worrell. Can’t stay on the park either. Best for both parties for a fresh start and to tell you the truth, he has plateaued and just hasn’t got better in 2 years.
The expectation that he would turn elite have disappeared and he his a great mark with average disposal with no attacking plays either

So if those rumours are true, NM are heading into this draft with picks 2, 3, 11 & 14 AND might even try to package up 11&14 for GC’s 4… lol just lol

Funny how north didn’t even finish bottom, west coast did. Unbelievable the media hasn’t jumped on this and gone with it. West coast have been poor for 3 years and didn’t receive anything. North received a second and third to trade and now expect even more. Have they not had enough top picks in the last 4 years??? AFL need to just say no and tell them there is no chance of pick 3 for MaKay.
This years draft if shit enough with all GC and f/s picks, they can’t gift anymore picks for incompetence

We've had Borlase on the list for however many years, seemingly along way from playing an AFL game and he finally gets a shot because of all of our injuries to key backs at the end of the season and I thought he did pretty well. Surprisingly well. And given we've invested all of this time in him, surely he is worthy of a list spot?

Hes 21, so not sure how many years you think we've had him on the list lol

I wonder if we aren't actually after pick 4 but the secondary trade, ie if WB give Gold Coast 10 and 17 or North give 11 and 14 we'll actually look at trying to get pick 10 or 11 off Gold coast.
Don’t think so, we’ll want to get into that top bracket of 7-8 players

Call me crazy, but if we’re desperate enough to get ahead of the Dogs’ reported offer (10 + 17 + F1 with 4 and I think F2 coming back), I can see us putting up 9 and an F1

Anyone got access to this one?

What part do you want?

Kozi:
Hawthorn key forward Jacob Koschitzke looks set to partner Tom Lynch in Richmond’s forward line next season after requesting a trade to the Tigers.
Koschitzke, 23, wants to become a regular in the yellow and black next season in a move which is set to increase Hawthorn’s interest in Gold Coast forward Mabior Chol.

Koschitzke fell out of favour at Hawthorn for periods this year, playing 12 games, but will fill the void left by Jack Riewoldt at Richmond if the two clubs can do a deal.

Hawthorn is keen on Chol to replace Koschitzke and is awaiting an answer from North Melbourne’s Ben McKay.

Koschitzke was taken with pick 52 in the draft, meaning negotiations could centre around a second or third-round draft pick.

Shiel/Gresh (seems eerily similar to something I can't quiet put my finger on)
The recruiting world is abuzz with anticipation about whether St Kilda can find a way to secure first-round compensation for free agent Jade Gresham.

He is not worth the $750,000 a year he would need to be paid over three seasons to trigger first-round compensation.

The open question is whether the AFL would approve a separate St Kilda-Essendon trade for a second player who might transfer from the Dons to the Saints.

Essendon’s Dylan Shiel is a player of interest for the Saints given his hard run and explosiveness, so there is some chance he could be on the move.

The Dons said last month he was a required player, but Darcy Parish’s re-signing means there is a logjam of Essendon mids.

So Gresham to Essendon as a mid-forward and Shiels to St Kilda might be a win-win for both clubs.
St Kilda would secure a first-round compo pick for Gresham (currently pick 13) and also improve its playing stocks by handing a draft pick to the Dons, who could give Ben Hobbs and Elijah Tsatas more midfield time.

But the AFL would need to approve both deals as fair value.

Some rivals believe the league would approve that kind of arrangement as the latest version of the Jack Bowes salary dump which advantaged Geelong and Gold Coast.

You couldn’t fault St Kilda for trying something inventive as recruiters Steve Silvagni and Graeme Allan attempt to betterthe club’s list.

This is a no-no for non Vic sides but clearly good to go for Vic clubs.

Dougal Howard:
St Kilda key backman Dougal Howard wants to stay at the Saints and fight for his position in the senior team next season rather than explore his options elsewhere.

Howard, 27, was overlooked for the club’s elimination final loss to the GWS Giants, raising questions about whether he should pursue a move to a rival on the hunt for a key defender.

St Kilda wants to be aggressive over the trade period to improve its draft position and clear some salary cap room to have scope in the free agency market in coming years.

Howard was seen as an expendable commodity, with several clubs, including Sydney, Hawthorn, Essendon and Port Adelaide chasing key defensive help.

But the 199cm Howard, who has one more year to run on his contract, has made clear he has no intentions to seek a move to a third club following his exit meeting with the Saints last week.

Essendon and Hawthorn are locked in a fight for North Melbourne key defender Ben McKay, who is weighing up his options at the two clubs.

Essendon has long been considered the frontrunner for McKay, but the Hawks remain a strong chance to land the key defender after tabling a more lucrative offer.
Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell is eager to land a key defender to beef-up his back half and support captain James Sicily after conceding the third-most points this season.

It has fuelled suggestions Howard could loom as a back-up plan for the Bombers to fill a key defensive spot if they miss out on McKay and lose Brandon Zerk-Thatcher to Port Adelaide.

But it is unlikely Howard will emerge as a serious plan B option for Essendon, which will look to Zach Reid to fill a key void in the back half next year after a nightmare run of back stress fractures.

Reid, 21 has played eight games in three seasons but missed all of 2023 with his latest back injury.

The 202cm defender faces a crucial summer preparing his body to be ready to play from round 1 next season after he was taken with pick 10 in the 2020 national draft.

The Saints are open to offers on Nick Coffield and Jack Billings. Coffield has attracted interest from the Western Bulldogs, while Billings played only three games this year.

Roos chugging picks
North Melbourne is interested in a trade for Gold Coast’s pick 4 that would secure the Roos three of the top four picks in the national draft.

The Herald Sun understands the Bulldogs lead the chase for the Suns’ pick, having offered up picks 10, 17 and a future first-rounder in exchange.

The Dogs will have those first two picks swallowed up in a bid for father-son Jordan Croft so have to trade them out, and have strong interest in pint-sized mid-forward Nick Watson.

Adelaide and Melbourne can offer better deals than the Dogs’ 10 and 17, so the Dogs would have to throw in the future first-rounder to get a deal done.

The Roos have a good chance to secure a mid-first-round pick from the AFL Commission next week, so could offer picks 11 and 14 as a starting point for the Suns’ No.4 with a future selection thrown in.

It would give them picks 2, 3 and 4 – a perfect draft hand or a chance to go hunting for No.1 overall pick Harley Reid.

Pick 1:
Clubs are still waiting on what top 20 picks in their third season will be paid under the new CBA, but believe it will help the Eagles pick Reid.

Top 20 picks will now be on a mandated wage to help clubs retain elite talent.

It will help the Eagles because even if Reid did want to return home after two seasons he would be contracted, so they would have much more leverage.

The Roos will still attempt to offer up trade packages to secure the No.1 overall pick as they await details on how much those third-year stars will be taking home in their pay packets.

Cats vs Pear
Geelong will threaten to trade Esava Ratugolea to a rival club if Port Adelaide is unwilling to hand the Cats fair compensation for the departing interceptor.

The Power are unwilling to give up their future first-round pick, so if it gets really ugly the Cats believe Ratugolea has enough interest they could broker a deal with a rival club like Hawthorn.

He is likely to secure a deal of five seasons at as much as $600,000 a year, so the Power will have to play ball at some stage.

The Cats have strong interest in Fremantle ruckman Sean Darcy.

But they would be much keener if they could secure him as a free agent next year rather than trade for him this year.

So there will be a big watch on whether Darcy signs up as a pre-agent over summer or lets his contract linger.

Doedee update:
Sydney has strongly joined the race for Adelaide free agent Tom Doedee, who now has the Pies, Brisbane and the Swans chasing his services.

In a market where intercept defenders are worth their weight in gold, Ben McKay’s decision to turn down the Swans means they have Doedee as a fall-back position.
McKay has told Sydney he doesn’t want to travel north, even though the Roos are wondering if there will be a last-ditch attempt from Sydney to woo him again.

Doedee had his contract taken off the table by Adelaide when he tore a second ACL, and the Crows are happy to lose him.

Second-round compensation for Adelaide would fall at around pick 30 and give them a fourth early pick given they have Gold Coast and North Melbourne’s second-rounders.

Doedee update:
They better bloody not allow the St Kilda proposed deal to happen. If it even smells like it, Olsen should be demanding the AFL stop it OR tell them we will put it in the hands of our legal team as they scuppered us from that exact scenario only a few short years back. This is line in the sand stuff as far as I am concerned.

It's outrageous that it is even suggested when as you said two years ago we almost got our arses handed to us for "draft tampering"

Problem is Dood isn't a KPD, which is why I'm happy for him to leave. The more rumors of other clubs being interested the better. let the bidding war begin.
