AFL website saying there is interest in Borlase.

Port Adelaide's Tom Clurey is open to a trade despite having two years to run on his contract, while Adelaide youngster James Borlase is yet to receive a deal from the Crows and has attracted rival interest. The Crows are looking at Gold Coast tall Chris Burgess in a trade, potentially to play key defence, while Fremantle free agent Joel Hamling is also of interest to clubs seeking key backs.

Id rather Clurey than Burgess.

We won't trade ROB and I wish him no harm but a prolonged absence of half a season or longer would be a fascinating experiment to see how TT adapted as first ruck.

Regarding Hayward, I'd like to see Gollant given a proper opportunity. But I understand that talent should be brought in when available.

But anyway...

I'd rather we were talking midfield though...
If we got Chol…

Id be running with TT and Chol sharing a ruck/forward position between them. Do it all year.

And put ROB in the SANFL for the year and hope he asks for a trade at the end of next year to get his stupid contract off the books.

His best asset is his marking prowess around the ground and in the last two seasons thats been hot and cold.

So apparently Sydney, Collingwood and Brisbane are interested in Doedee even after 2 ACLs. 2 clubs in the top 4 and 1 perpetual finalist who played in a GF last year.

Yet apparently he's useless and easily replaced.

I always find the differences between BigFooty supporters and the footy industry (Doedee, Murphy, Hinkley etc) interesting.

So if those rumours are true, NM are heading into this draft with picks 2, 3, 11 & 14 AND might even try to package up 11&14 for GC’s 4… lol just lol

I think many here would rather keep Doedee.

But at a cheaper contract than the potential before the knee.

These other clubs might have the same thought.

If he does go, it is a position we can cover quite well. Hinge slotted into that role quite well. Worrell as support was good too.

Honestly, I couldn't imagine a single worse result for the club right now then ROB picking up an LTI. Yes, that includes Dawson.

Imagine the reality that you have a key forward who has the game to be a generational one and instead you play him in the ruck. Unless TT is the next Paul Salmon, that likely ruins any hope of a premiership in the next decade.

He’s not useless, but we’ve shown we’ve been able to replace him with Worrell.

However, saying he's easily replaced is responding to what happened in 2023. That's what we did by accident with Michalanny and Worrell. In particular, Worrell pretty much emulated the season Doedee was having after the ACL and was a more reliable field kick - it's certainly a fun coincidence how similar the two were statistically. Michalanny ripped away the backup role as he's had a phenomenal start to his career.

Both of those two showed they're the real deal when it comes to defenders and meant we wore what could have been a disastrous injury - noting how reliant we were on generating counter attacks - rather comfortably.

A deal like that just has to be fake news. I can't believe any club would do that deal. A coach killer if it goes south. He is an average player at best.
I'm sure a competent organisation like the AFL wouldn't put it out there to the completely independent AFL media so that it can be easily justified to give a struggling Vic club a high end draft pick

It's not BF supporters that are letting him go, it's the Adelaide Football Club

Those teams also probably find themselves thinking they're in, or near, a premiership window, so they'll be more inclined to take a risk on him in the hopes he's the "missing piece" and deal with the fallout later if it doesn't work out. We're not in that window yet, so probably don't see it as much of a need to take that risk.

I raised this the other day

What good would mid to late 2023 1st's be to the GCS?

They'll just be getting awkward assets in a weak part of a weak draft that they'll need to trade out again or watch get absorbed

If I'm the GCS an offer of 11 and 14 would be a hard pass

We've had Borlase on the list for however many years, seemingly along way from playing an AFL game and he finally gets a shot because of all of our injuries to key backs at the end of the season and I thought he did pretty well. Surprisingly well. And given we've invested all of this time in him, surely he is worthy of a list spot?

The only reason we're even contemplating keeping him are the injuries to Butts & Murray, which have resulted in our KPD depth being severely tested. It's readily apparent that he's a fairly limited player at AFL level - he's not bad, but he really doesn't have a high ceiling. With Borlase having already spent 3 years on the rookie list, we have to upgrade him to the senior list if we are to retain him.

The club is currently casting a wide net, looking to see what cheap backup KPD options are available - and what they would cost us. Ideally, we sign one as a DFA, and put them on the rookie list. If they can come up with an alternative, who is even marginally better than Borlase, then they'll sign them.

Borlase is a reasonable backup plan, but for now the decision about his fate is being determined elsewhere.

I don’t think anyone here thinks Doedee is useless , far from it … but in terms of positions we have depth / talent in I think his role is easily replaced with Worrell hinge max etc

Hmm, a ruckman who can dominate around the ground and kick goals.

Melbourne won a flag with a bloke like that.

And they are the only team to do so in the last decade+.

Ruck has historically been a position you just need someone to do a job cheaply, and not one that's required an elite talent. Equally, moving a potential generation KPF to play ruck is the height of stupidity.

I'm seeing TT through a distinctly Brad Ottens lens.
Goodish forward... but a premiership ruck....who influenced the whole ground.
