You seeing a 70+ goal per season forward there and one that can kick goals from 65m?
Yes and he was able to get up the ground a lot more this season and be a link option going forward with his improved endurance too. I don't think he's as natural on the left as Tex, but that's a very rare trait for a key forward of their size.

I would prefer the likes of RT/Gollant/Chol (if he comes) to be closer to goal and rotating through the ruck.

Tex is now in the convo for Adelaide’s top 5 greatest ever players.

We aren’t replacing him. We’ll be trying to limit the damage incurred when he leaves.

No doubt the ‘top 5’ part will cause a debate. For me, it’s not only that he’s our greatest every scorer. It’s field kicking/score involvement that elevates him to that status. TT’s kicking is a little concerning for mine. I think he’s a Brad Ottens type hybrid.

I don’t think there’ll be a lot of debate over Tex being top 5. He’s definitely a part of the conversation.

In my view Tex is No1 for his leadership and love of the AFC. Rated the best captain in the AFL a few years ago by others outside the AFC and multiple times. Modra equal with him because he is Modra. All the other are greats.

I sometimes wish Thilthy was a few CM shorter.

He would be an elite mid. Bont/Cripps type.

I would be more than happy to see him trialled as a mid.
Why not? Would be an interesting option. Especially if you went with a more mobile mid sized ruck rather than a lumbering ROB type.

Not sure why anyone would think Riley is a replacement for Walker. Entirely different footballers.
I think the reason we seem to always come back to this debate is because different people rate different positions on the ground differently. Some think a key forward is more valuable than a dominant ruckman. Personally I am in the ruck camp.
Those of us who would like to see him move up the ground more, potentially sharing time with someone like Chol, is not because we don’t rate him, It’s because we believe he could be more influential for us as a mobile ruckman with stints up forward.

Modra, McLeod, Ricciuto, Walker, Hart - people forget how damn good Ben Hart was.

The top 3 are unassailable.

Walker, Hart & D Jarman all in the conversation for 4th & 5th. Walker clearly Adelaide's greatest player since the 97/98 era.

Top 5 debate is fun. I'm always torn of the 2 club players though. Jarman, Dangerfield, Betts, Modra are all club champions and could be in the conversation IMO, but played a decent chunk of their careers elsewhere.

Does that chapter of their careers count?

The interesting debate I have with my Port mate is the Walker V Tredders.

My (likely biased) view is Walker. But I can see the argument for Tredrea given the accolades he has. Fair bloody player he was.

Over the length of his career Tex is the more talented player.
Tredrea had a couple of outstanding years though around their flag years.

Very very similar players. Tredders had the same ability as Walker to, through actions, put the team on his back and carry them that little bit further.

Tredrea was a skilled, outstanding player. He was very textbook, like if you built a CHF from the ground up. Tex though has that little bit of raw talent X factor though. I don't think Tredders had a "baulk from 50 and slot it on his left" in him.

Agree with that. Tex able to be more of an agile field player who can kick freak goals like smalls.

Tredders was actually very good on his left. When he was going through the yips there were suggestions he should kick left footed!

Ask Truck Rutten that question...he might even still have Tredders kept in his back pocket

Shaun Rehn the other one in the discussion to round out the top 5.

For me it’s D Jarman at 4 with Tex at 5.
If you said which players were total clutch players - Rehn is right up there. D Jarman is the most skilled footballer we have ever had bar none - his field kicking is still peerless although Tex might be on the of closest to him

I'd go personally for my top 5

Roo
McLead
Jarman
Rehn
Tex

Very honorable mentions to B Hart, P Dangerfield, E Betts, S Goodwin, Myke Cook

I think thats certainly the top 5; as far as pure enjoyment to watch it was Eddie for me

My favorite player we have ever had to watch was D Jarman..he could split the head of a pin with his kicking and he was so laconic...but also when forward in that GF - he was devastating.

There is an interview of his a long while back about that GF where he saw Jamie Shanahan head to fullback and he thought it was like Christmas had come early as he knew Shanahan didn't have the guile or craft to stop him.

Enjoy the great man at work
