Hang on..does Oliver WANT to join the crows?..this has escalated

If he decides to leave what I am hearing is that his destination will likely be Adelaide. Hence why this board meeting right now is probably the biggest since the merger vote.

A lot of talk about giving 3 firsts and Mcadam for Oliver. Surely that is overs? Melbourne can throw in Petty if we are paying that much!

A bit of spare change here and there but these are some top line trades. 2 firsts should be the starting point. Not 3.

Neale was traded for Pick 6 and 19

Danger was Pick 9 and 28

Treloar and 28 was for Pick 8 (future 1st), Pick 7 and 65

Steele was for 27.

Tom Mitchell was for pick 14

Omeara was for 10 and 26

Charlie Cameron the best small forward in the game was Pick 12

Seems like he wants to stay in Victoria and West Coast will trade pick 1 due to that risk.
I know that may be his preference but he said different in an ABC interview just last week..

Reports emerged earlier this year that Reid's camp had told West Coast he didn't want to be drafted by the Eagles.

Reid's manager strongly condemned and denied the rumour, and Reid himself reiterated it was not true, saying that he would be happy to become an Eagle.

"Obviously, Perth is a long way, but when you look at it, if you ever have got to really move interstate, I feel like it would be best to do it at the start of your career," he said.

"It's everyone's dream, really, so you'd be probably silly not to take the opportunity."

"It's an honour to be drafted and I'll be happy just to play AFL footy, wherever that is."

No, we overpaid for Gibbs.
I would more say people are blinded by the headline.

It was virtually 1 1st rounder and a pick upgrade for Carlton.
Yes, it was 2 1st rounders in name, but it was 16 (end of 1st 2017) for 19 (beginning of 2nd 2018)

Welcome to the Crows Clayton Oliver

All of these players hadn't reached the same peak as Oliver has already. This is pre-brownlow Dangerfield, Neale and Mitchell, Treloar and Steele were B+ graders at the time and O'Meara's body was (and still is) cooked.

This is exactly what I'm trying to say ... 2 first is fair value

3 firsts is crazy talk

Both loyal locals... won't be going anywhere!

We have so many picks...
I was told that Fog didnt want to leave SA and thats why he drifted all the way to pick 12 in 2017..

i blurted that out on a main board thread but put the caveat to it that my source was pretty reliable.. but not 100%.

A few hours later I got a PM from a Hawks supporter who said he had two very good friends, one that was involved in list management at the bulldogs and one who was involved with Collingwood..

he told me that according to his mates Fog 100% tanked his interviews with both these clubs and made it very clear he didnt want to leave SA.

there was also the rumour a couple of years back when Fogs form was down and there were question marks on whether he would make it that, if the crows did try trade him or simply delisted him when his contract ended, he wouldnt go to any other club and would simply quit footy altogether and go take over the family farm in lucindale..

all rumours of course..

Sure, Mcadam would be worked into any deal cause they have already committed to him.. but i reckon the dees want picks more than any other players at this point.

Sad fact is that players like Oliver don't leave Melbourne if they have the option to stay, and he'll have every other club in Victoria as an option.

Probably end up at Geelong with a few off-field money hats business opportunities and a bit of help from the AFL allowing them to trade first round picks for the next 8 years.
It's hard for any club to take on an unexpected million dollars into their cap.

You can if you plan, but otherwise you need both existing room AND players rolling off.

Players like Doedee leaving and offering up $550k or so in cap room is very helpful ...

Particularly if we get in a 3 way deal with Gold Coast for their pick 4 .. which they can then package to get pick 1 from the Eagles.

Correct.

Even if we fail, it opens the idea to other elite midfielders that Adelaide can be a destination for them.

YES 👏

Destination club for real. An all Australian coming at the end of 2021. Rankine will be an AA player if not next year, the year after.

You have a list manager who is fully understanding of the “modern” AFL.
A big statement that you have the cap space and the overall capacity to bring in talent.
