It’s concerning because this draft is not supposed to be very strong. It might be harder to find those gems from 30 onwards. The strategy could backfire.
Doubt we would trade out players like Coffield or Clark simply to get picks to use in the draft.

Would be part of a strategy to bundle up players/picks to either get an established gun or a very high draft pick.

I do think Coff would be frustrated at not playing for two years. I hope he doesn’t leave but don’t begrudge him if he does. SOS managed to trade out players at Carlton that netted them McKay and Charlie. Hopefully he can make something happen for us. As long as we arnt bent over

Good haul - so Gresh, Coff, Clark and King all gone next year?

None of our players will get that. Unless you package Coffield and Clark together, but even then…

Gresham will net a second rounder.

Membrey a 4th rounder.

Only chance is Howard.
On there own they wouldn’t.

Not sure that’s the method they are looking to go down.

I’ve said for months now. The club wants multiple firsts.

I could see a scenario where we trade players for picks and package everything into firsts or even an additional first and multiple seconds.

I’ve never once heard they believe this to be a poor draft that they don’t want multiple picks in

Its clear they've got some irons in the fire otherwise we wouldn't be at this point where players such as Coff, Clark, Jones etc are still uncontracted.

Less so with Gresh because of his FA status.

Just can't see where there is any value in trading the likes of Clark, Coff simply to get second rounders to take to the draft.

Clearly after bigger fish, whether that's a player or a high pick I doubt we'll know until after the finals.

So what’s in it for the club to move him on?

Selling low won’t get us anywhere, there’s just no point unless Coffield requests a trade and I can’t see why he would, but maybe that’s the case.
Nothing. But he is out of contract so there doesn't have to be anything in it for us.

We either don't rate him enough to give a new contract too, or he's got a better offer from another club which you cant begrudge someone for taking.

Happy enough to wave goodbye to Coff, Clark, Pato, Howard, Billings and regrettably Members too.
They can all be covered if the list is reasonably fit and depth types can be got for a packet of chips.
Gus Mac will be a player and if we can grab Ned and Dow we'll be better from the get go.

Coff might have an offer on the table from a club where he'll play some first team football. Can totally understand if he'd want a change of scene. We'd get nothing for him though.

Do you even read what Stav posts?
I do. I still can’t work out how the Saints will get multiple firsts. The players on offer are not good enough. It’s just a general statement every club makes. Essendon would love multiple firsts, Geelong would love multiple firsts, Collingwood would love multiple firsts, because who wouldn’t?

You would be lucky to get a third rounder for Billings currently.

Zak Jones will either be kept by the club or delisted.

Ha ha Membrey is grossly underrated he will get a late 2nd rounder at the right club.

He may look like one but Owens is one. Grass isn’t always greener mate. Owens one of the best young players in the league with a massive cieling.

You obviously aren't reading what I'm saying.

Owens is a very promising, I like to think I was one of the first on here to notice his form but Owens is winning crazy amounts of contested ball but other than that he's not dominating games regularly yet. He's had a handful of excellent games for sure and he's probably in line to finish top 5 in the rising star award. You'd think he's going to be a gun but he's more showing signs so far.

Jai Newcombe has started owning games. Not just contributing or showing signs. He's not a promising kid, he's good enough to poll a few 3 Brownlow vote games against some of the AFLs best midfielders. He's already where we are hoping that Chito gets to.

Some of you are smoking grass if you can't see the difference.

he's 3 years older than owens tho?

Gresham to Carlton unlikley

Coffield unlikely to be at the saints next year
That's Twomey's take, isn't it.

Callum Twomey also said:

  • that Gresham wants to play more games at the MCG and is a good fit at the Bombers
  • Damian Hardwick is a big fan of Gresham
  • Tim Membrey is on the trade table
  • Jack Billings leaving if he gets the the right offer
Twomey also wondered out loud as to whether the Saints would consider putting Jack Steele up for trade to improve their hand at the draft.

Sounds like a thoughtful young man.

Will you be playing at Fremantle next year?

I know there's a lot of interest in my career, but at the end of the day I'm trying to play these last two weeks and hopefully I get to make that decision sooner or later.

Goneski.
