Geez why aren’t the media challenging him on these calls

Curtin isn't putting up numbers in the SANFL that's demanding selection...

Don't get me wrong, he looks promising, but equally looks like he needs another preseason to get over the hump.

The statement of more mid minutes in sanfl nxt in as sub

Yup, injuries and illness will do that.

No doubt if Curtin puts up a quarter with impact, he's in the best 22 next week as well.

Yep, needs to do more than the 43 disposals and 4 goals he has kicked the last 2 SANFL games....

Outside of the goals, it's rather middling for starting inside midfielder.

After all, it's only 21.5 disposals and 4.5 clearances. It's a promising start for a first year player, but it is not knocking the door down, just yet. For reference, Dowling was at a pace of 24.1 disposals and 5.4 clearances this year before winning a spot.

With that logic no top 10 draftees would play AFL in their first year.

Like Reid, he should have been playing wing/mid round 1.

In the midfield rotation by now.

What was Taylor?

Should of, sure, but the knee injury did him in at the start of the year and put him in the seconds rat race. Once you're there, you need to be either knocking the door off the hinges for your position to force your way in, or you're waiting for an opportunity to present itself via injuries/suspension/losing streak.

Really, 21 disposals/4.5 clearances doesn't quite cut the mustard to get a game. Now, if Curtin hit a 26+ disposal game this week, it might have done the job. That said, Curtin has a better shot of retaining a best 22 spot from the sub role. A good quarter can do wonders, see Zac Taylor.

What was Taylor?

18.9 disposals/5.3 clearances with a 26 disp/3 clearance game the week prior against Woodville. Not numbers that force a selectors hand, but will give you a few roll of the dice as an emergency.

It is worth noting, Taylor came in due to a late withdrawal and won a best 22 spot off a quarter.

So he's 11% behind Dowling in disposals and 16% behind in clearances. Not sure that's a big difference?

I mean, Dowling is another that should’ve gotten an opportunity way earlier
