We copped some of the top teams weakened with key players out and we often fell in against the lower ranked teams. Our overall record was a fraction misleading perhaps.

Major problem we have is too many nuggety types across the middle. Good players but same, same. Need some height and speed across the ground and two more forwards - one a marking tall, one a goalsneak.

Hopefully Port delist McEntee.
McEntee is the type of player who would excel in the SANFL, basically Port's version of McHenry.

But, yeah, our form in the latter stages of the H&A wasn't great, but we were able to scrape by against the lesser teams. Still, questions have to be asked about the last quarters of the two finals given we managed a solitary behind in both of them combined. Is it a fitness issue? Belief? Lack of Plan B from Mattner to wrestle back momentum?

We’ve got the third highest points for in the comp…..🤪
Huh, I stand corrected, but our H&A was largely built around the defence, something like the fewest points conceded in a century or something like that?

I think it was that no team has had under 50 points scored against them on average in a season since 1921.
We also hadn’t lost to Centrals for the last 8 games.
As far as our forward line, we had Burrows play every minor round game, he tries hard but wasn’t doing great. Grivell came in later in the year but we also had Doyle injuredafter the State Game so still Burrows was in, then Sparks gets injured so it was only the last minor round game we had our ideal tall forwards/ruck set up and it failed along with other parts of our game.
No excuses, in finals we really had no injuries.

Ash Johnson may be delisted from the Pies. He would be a huge get if he could be lured back to the club. Would certainly help in our forward line as would McEntee if he were to depart port..

From what I gather Johnson has similar issues around preparation etc similar to McAdam so not sure he'd be to enamored working with Burgess. McEntee with ANB coming in?

That's one the Swans got real wrong and it's not as though they didn't persevere in trying to make an AFL player out of him.

I got it wrong as well

Which is why I now ask harder questions of big lumps of lads dominating the youth levels

It doesn't help that the selectors for the SA U16 and U18 teams usually prioritise the man child types. You get people like Brenton Phillips talking up the Peter Bampton/Adam D'aloia types every year.

What was really strange they still picked him when his testing at the Combine was diabolical in both the athletic and endurance testing.

Welsh probably falls into the big lump of a lad category but he has shown he has elite straight line speed and pretty reasonable hops in his testing in the past.

Magarey Medal tonight.

Go Harry Boyd.
deserves to win it. absolutely dominant, got beaten in the ruck in like 1 game, 200 more hitouts than the next best, leads the league in clearances, 20 touches a game, basically another midfielder for norwood. if he doesnt win it then no big man ever will again.

Doesn't help having our best player missing with a broken jaw thanks to an off the ball hit by a Port Magpies spud.
Even Thomas said there wasn’t much in it, I haven’t seen the incident but I haven’t seen many people up in arms about it. The SANFL have come down hard on head high hits and off the ball incidents so if they are ok with what happened I’d go with that.
