You and me both.

At that point personally I'd be looking at Bo Allan and trading down and getting a decent pick in for 2025 if possible.

We need a mid with exceptional burst speed that can get separation as Nathan Bassett is saying...currently the only mid we have with that is part-timer Izak Rankine, perhaps Edwards who I've seen a bit of that in the SANFL...Jagga Smith IMO is just a fair bit better version of Zac Taylor with better agility.
I understand your point, and I’d like a burst player for balance too. But you can get the same outcome (the ball out in space with a player who do something attacking with it) without a full-on burst midfielder.

Eg Brisbane this year, and Collingwood last year. Their midfields were built on players with vision and agility and top end hand passing and gut running, they didn’t have a Dusty or Dangerfield type in their main midfield mix (Degoey and Rayner were more part time mids, like we expect Rankine to be).

10 of the first 11 ranked players in Cal Twomeys October rankings are Victorian players.

10 of the first 11 picks are held by Victorian clubs.

JHF may well have put fear into anyone considering an SA lad early in the draft.

I have a feeling there may be a live trade involving our pick 4 for Richmond's 6 and 18, or Stkildas 7 and future pick, still getting us Draper.

Bo Allan may well go top 10.

Dees are keen apparently to take before Weagles pick.

Perhaps they shouldn't have slid pick 3 so much.

Reckon you underrate Jagga , he’s elite

I'd be ecstatic if we got Jagga Smith. He feels like a guaranteed 200 gamer, better than many of his peers by foot and just has great footy positioning.

I don't think it's bad to draft the player who has consistently been amongst the absolute best.
Same , I’d feel like we’ve drafted the best or 2nd best player . Like having pick 1 which we’ve always needed

I think we are going to end up with either him or Langford but prob take Langford

If we take langford now and in the next few seasons see smith dominate and langford not, i'll cry. Smith just looks like a certainty to make it...cotchin like...and on that, surely richmond who have been on him all year will work a way out to take him if they get pick 2

Hearing Richmond are very keen on getting pick 2 off north

Likely picks Draper and Lalor 1 and 2

Draper at 1?

So Carlton FOS.

Are you hearing we are more into Langford than Smith?

Very unlikely Langford

I cant see us doing a live trade at our Pick 4 if Draper is still on the table to slide to Pick 6.

Our intel would have to be 100% rock solid, that Draper wouldnt go at 4 or 5. Its a high risk.

Yes he would indeed have to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat to pull it off...

Dodson would effectively solve our long term Ruck dilemma. IMO I would almost go as far of trading out next years first to get it done.
Did you feel the same way about Goad and Barnett?

They were the two players we were closely associated with the last two drafts as a possible solution to our ruck development gap.

It seems like we can't, not that we won't.

I mean, it ALSO seems to be out of character for us, as we've been very conservative. But there's a lot of practical barriers to clubs doing this.
I don't think it's that at all.

If we're are that close to the cap this year that we can't pay out a Burgess or Strachan we've horribly messed up our cap.

I completely disagree.

If we're not using the opportunity now - while some of the contracts for promising players are less - to be front loading some of our bigger deals, then we're ****ing up.

Just walking around with $300k of unspent money in the cap would be dumb.

What's dumb is not having the room or sense to have more than 1 pick in a stacked draft because you've given yourself no room to delist proven duds, contract or not.

We offered Luko a huge contract, we’ve got cap space, so yeah we are dumb

I think Smith will come into our calculations more so than WCE.
Thanks man, always appreciate the input.

What is your gut feel on who Blues would take then if both Smith and Draper were available at your pick?

Also any feel re is Langford in top 4-5 considerations also (which is the current rumour on this board)

Cheers
