Morris reporting on Sen this morning that saints won’t get pick 8
Says battles taking less than the 900 the saints offered to stay.
Hope him and his teeth are wrong
It’s borderline. The football club is confident. Just need some front ending and we will be sweet. But if the afl is going to **** a club it will be us

Brisbane getting the number one pick, they are going to be top four-ish for the next decade.

Surely the AFL can throw us a fricken bone here.

So then Pick 21 (25-28 after Academies and other Compensation), AFL's Free Agency system working a treat making sure the good teams get better, as designed. 7,21,24,43 going into the draft.

That’s not quite what he said.

He said he didn’t know and that Battle took less than 900k.

AFL hands out North Melbourne compensation picks 19 and 20 ahead of what would be our Josh Battle compensation for nothing what a farce..

So when we don't get Band 1 is anyone from the club actually going to stand up and say something or complain about this? We need leaders at the club to advocate. Rightly or wrongly we would have been on the wrong end of both Academy changes and now the FA Compo matrix

Are we going to demand respect from the AFL or just sit there and take it while every other clubs has built in advantages.

If we don't get Band 1 I'm probably done with the AFL, they don't care about St Kilda supporters and we are taken for granted.

Perryman Giants UFA also reported as 850 over 6 years, wonder if that will hurt our chances at band 1
He literally says

“We don’t know yet”

“Every chance it’s not the pick the saints want it to be”

“It’s right on the edge”

he is guessing.

You been listening to the Prez for the last 6 months?

Cowwarr is a small club roughly 20 minutes from Traralgon that wears the saints colours, still going.

Can confirm there are a lot of saints supporters in Gippsland, unfortunately due to the unreliable train service that ends up a bus service due to the 10+ year rail development it's easier to stay home and watch the game instead of spending 3 and half hours on a bus (one way)

There is a huge Collingwood base down here also, the club organises a large bus purely for their supporters which has 3 stops unlike the public bus saving nearly 1 hour each way.

Got a property near Cowwarr so know it well. Had family play around Traralgon who had Saints jumpers but I'm guessing they may have been at some defunct club up there, pretty sure they didn't play there. They were settlers around Maffra, Briagalong, Sale, Traralgon. Should have taken notice while the old folks were still around.

Family up that way are all split between Collingwood and Saints. One of our uncles played under 19s and reserves at Carlton back in the 80s and we got a bunch of converts back then who still follow the Blues too.

I don’t mind the Gold Coast getting dibs on their academy picks. They’re still a little way off becoming a powerhouse club and they deserve some reward for their investment in developing interest in the game at the youth level.

But, for Sydney and Brisbane I think it’s well time for both teams to fall in with the rest of the competition and make their talent free to all.

Like every other state they can still work the go home angle to draw players back home.

Gold Coast will burst out at some point and people will be crying about all the concessions. You don't see the benefit for a few years.

I think that if they win a flag this year, they'll grab a couple more.

Club should apply for priority picks. That way they can say no but give us band1 anyway if its borderline the same way North did last year.
They can do whatever they want and if they want to give B1 they can.

North got paid Tier 1 , because McKay got paid a lot.

Lennox Hofmann

13 disposals, 5 marks, 4 rebound-50s

A St Kilda Next Generation Academy member, Hofmann has been a big improver this year and was one of the Dragons’ best in the Grand Final. A 190cm key defender, he was rock-solid down back spending time on dangerous Rebels key forwards Jonty Faull and Floyd Burmeister. He read the play well and recorded four intercept marks. There should have been a fifth, which was dropped in the third quarter, but Hofmann calmly mopped up. He also got some important spoils in at times. A player with plenty of promise.

Adrian Cole

5 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles

Similar to Hofmann, Cole is a rapidly-improving 195cm key defender who is also linked to St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy. With Dragons interceptor Luke Trainor missing the Grand Final through concussion, Cole and Hofmann had to step up – and they did. Cole is very much a lock-down defender and performed that role well against Rebels key forwards Jonty Faull and Floyd Burmeister to also finish among Sandringham’s best players in the win.

Will be nice to look back on this draft and know that 2/7 of our next premiership back 7 came from here

+ the Norm Smith medallist

I’d be staggered if Saints don’t get band 1.

Don’t take anything that Tom Morris says to the bank. He has a history of often being wrong.

But imagine if we don’t get band 1. Josh Battle has accepted less to leave and as a consequence this has impacted on the club’s compensation.

There will be considerable ill feeling towards him from the club and its supporters. Such a sad way to leave the club that drafted him as a lad.

I'm talking about the assistance package they got in 2023 and 24.
Haggle an assistance package into a band 1 compo if required.
AFL give us assistance in the form of draft picks, we keep getting stooged.
Stkilda you poor sods, we can't give you draft picks, but we'll give band 1 for Battle cause it's on the border anyway and you require assistance. 😁

Could see another club needing lockdown key def bidding on Cole in the 2nd round. If he continues having good performances it might be better to trade up the later picks we end up with post trade period for player swaps
