He is more a midfielder than many are giving him credit for on here. Gets judged because he is too light and can kick. Must be an outside type only then🙄

With a bigger frame he is a definite top 10 in this draft.
What I love about some of the options is the leadership they will bring. Smith, Draper, Langford, Allan is supposed to be that as well. Are there some doubts on Smillie at that level? There definitely seems to be doubts on Armstrong on that front. Was Travaglia club captain?

Macrae+Bont

Green+Callaghan

As long as both can run two ways and one has burst (Pou) then it’s fine
Reckon we should select Langford and Smillie if available. A midfield of Macrae, Pou, Smillie and Langford would have to be the tallest midfield of all time .

And if one of the three youngest don't work out we have a built key position. Langford is as much a forward as mid anyway.

Academy & Draft summit:

I had a look at the projected top 25 players in next years (2025) crop and 8 of the 25 are NGA's or FS. Thats a third of the top 25 of the kids in the country tied mostly to the 4 x northern clubs (22% of the competition). Its obvious the AFL are keen to grow the game in NSW & QLD but its got to a point now where the scales are tipped too far their way. Its no different to the salary cap allowance these clubs enjoyed for far too long.

I know our President went to bat in the summit, but the above is evidence the AFL didnt go far enough with their NGA and draft changes.

Its not earth shattering, but I think when the AFL introduced the pick trading periods they would have envisaged it actually being used. As far as I recall there has been possibly a couple of deals of late picks since its inception. Now clubs start talking a long way before the trade and any pick swapping is exclusively done over the trade period or on the draft night/s. Most clubs have negotiated swaps prior to the drafts depending on where their targetted players fall.

Perhaps there is a need for the pick swaps to flow over into the rookie and MSD, was that actually discussed or signed off during the summit?
Don’t say anything because our club “ whinged”. So says every oppo fan. Even though every other team is getting totally screwed. It’s only because little old St Kilda stood up for us all.

So every time you see an oppo fan have their own whinge, give it to them. Knobs

POLL:

Overlooking the benefit of NGA selections, IF we had a pick between 32 & 47 or were to use them on a key defender who would you take or prefer?

A. James Barrat 194cms (intercept marker)
B. Matt Whitlock 198cms (utility)
C. Noah Mraz 198cms (utility)
D. Adrian Cole 194cms (full back stopper)
E. Harry O'Farrell 196cms (full back stopper)
F. Clancy Dennis 195cms (intercept marker)
G.Charlie Nicholls 197cms (utility)

I know its a fruitless exercise as we will take Cole because of our academy access, but if he wasnt who would you take? Its a bit of fun to get us thinking about something other than the top 8.

My pick would be C. Noah Mraz, because of his all round defensive game and versatility. I think if he hadnt of have had the foot injury he would be top 20, even so he tested well at the combine. Perhaps we might look at someone versatile like Mraz or Nicholls at #32 as well given their versatility, as well as taking Cole.

Cue all the comments about SOS and ex-Carlton players in 3, 2, 1 ...

Wow I said I rated him when he was delisted, so not unhappy with picking him up. He has more midfield scope than what Carlton gave him credit for and he has some speed and a deadly left foot, something we crave. Its going to make the list spots and how we fill positions even more interesting! How many JACK's will that make at the club? :D

It will make the idea of taking Elwood Peckett more remote perhaps?

Anyone know much about Carrol. His stats are underwhelming?

Thought we’d go for depth ruck/backman with a DFA.

He was played mostly as a pressure HFF when he got a game at AFL level. Have a look at his VFL stats there has been an upward trend, even so he is an interesting pick up given our list holes, but he is definitely an upgrade on Olli Hotton.

Ill also add his RMC draft write up -

We cop shit for Aaron Naughton, imagine what we'd cop for Jeremy Cameron mk2
Thing is he’s not Jeremy Cameron. He’s not a star. Been delivered it on a platter all season without having any standout elite traits. He converts set shots well and his hands are o-k. Reminds me of jye amiss in his draft year. Solid without being a star.

Mate I know bugger all about the bloke so not saying you are wrong. But a quick search of the Carlton board and Carroll has one word coming up over and over ...

Slow!

Liked Carrol last year when he played a good game against us.. Big body midfielder/utility, is clean with the ball, has composure and a good left foot on him.. Definitely deserve another opportunity.

He doesn't look too bad tbh.. worth a shot if he can build on his speed

OUCH I just had a look and there is a good chance I mixed him and Matt Carroll up sorry. I didnt realise there were two Carrolls at Cartlon, I guess we will have to wait and see.....

So no Langford in the draft by the looks. Big bodied left footed mid has been filled.
