Mate I know bugger all about the bloke so not saying you are wrong. But a quick search of the Carlton board and Carroll has one word coming up over and over ...

Slow!
Well somebody is telling pork pies...

“There was a lot to like in Jack’s performances this season and we believe he can bring an added layer to our midfield mix.
“Jack’s got great leg-speed and at only 21 we believe his best footy is still ahead of him.”

How many midfields have 2 190cm mids lining up at the stoppage at the same time?

Pou and Langford look very similar to me. He looks good as a prospect, but does he fit in a midfield with Pou?
Overthinking it. Take the best available mid

He hasn't had opportunity at Carlton. Dominated VFL and was solid at AFL level but never got the chance to put together consistent blocks of high-level performance

I have a strong feeling we're gonna do something crazy come draft night
Dominated ? thats a stretch

Rekon he gets the #18 near Dow & Stocker. Good luck to him.

Yes good luck to him.

A handy depth player, who has the potential to possibly become good enough to become a best 22 player. In what role? Could be anything from mid, to outside to defence.

Does this change the plans for 7+8 now?

The slide back feeling more & more likely...

Geeze.....I would be very troubled if our strategy had us sliding back because we picked up a young DFA.

Do you see an additional tall forward linked anywhere else?

There have been genuine links to Armstrong. INCLUDING Mission saying we aren’t guaranteed to take 2 Non Talls

Drafting Armstrong doesn’t thrill me with pick 8. But maybe you’re right, we could be keen.

We have King, Sharman, Caminiti, potentially Marshall pushing forward, Wood drifting down, Phillipou in the general vicinity. Potentially Keeler developing.

Plenty of aerial firepower down there already, especially if we play the mobile and separated forward line that we showed in the last 8 weeks.

I’ll trust our recruiters, but pick 8 is a plum pick.

I like the Carroll pick up. They have depth in that area and he was out of contract, for all we know he refused to sign a modest one year deal and no one would trade for him. Same scenario as Membrey.

Let’s not forget that Membrey, Roberton and Stocker all arrived as DFA and contributed more than 95% of late draft picks. Throw is sincs, Ro and Wilkie all taken over age and turned out to be AA level players. They mature at different rates and thrive in different environments. Let’s not write off a 21 year old that has shown promise just yet.

We've been crying out for potential midfield stars and if we manage to use one of our free hits on a tall or bloke that plays hff i think I'll spew.
What do you mean 'one of our free hits'. Pick 7 is because of where we finished on the ladder.
8 a possible free hit, but it was band 1 compo.
Anyway
Pou
Windy
Wilson
Garcia
Hall
Carroll all very young with lots of potential
One top ten mid.
Free hit 8 as you call it, I would be ok with an Tauru or split 8 for 15 and 16 and take a mid slider and Trainor.

Plus Wood as a DFA

Having used up a list spot. Doesn’t it make it less likely we split?

Possibly.

But another 21yo mid with speed and kicking skills... Feels like we don't need to grab two mids at 7+8 as much?

Maybe we snap up Armstrong but I feel like the slider mid at 7 + two picks in the 15-22 range is a clear winner.

Grab Reid/Smillie/Smith then a Shanahan + Berry combo or something like that.

Carroll coming in perhaps puts a different complexion on our draft choices. Key position players into the mix at a higher pick? And of course it depends on who is there at our picks. And if a club comes hard for our Pick 8. Can’t imagine we would contemplate giving up No 7. But….you never say never.

Going to be completely fascinating. Too many scenarios to calculate what might happen. Live trading and pick swaps might make phantom drafts way off the mark. Cal might have to put out a couple of phantoms to take into account a change of order.

I have seen nearly every player at the supposed top end of the draft drop to our picks 7 and 8 by someone. Except FOS. Or the FS or Academy boys. And then guys rated in the teens. Not sure there has been a draft like it. And certainly not with us in the heart of it.
Surely we’re not rethinking the draft because we picked up a delistee

Maybe you’re right. But list spots are at a premium for us. Maybe we have made the calculation that Carroll is better than what we will extract from the draft.

I dunno though. I’m not an expert and just a passionate supporter. But he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire over the previous 4 years.

Carroll could be a hidden gem. I hope so. But I’m a doubter.

God I hope a couple of rippers slide to us at picks 7 & 8.

I liked him during the year, but it’s reasonably rational to be doubtful. He was delisted. 2 hours ago, I’m sure he would have been called a spud 😆

I've never posted before but i dont think id be happy with taking 7+8 in the draft. My thoughts are, beyond maybe pick 6/7 I don't see genuine stars/hall of famers. Imo, ideally we end up with 2, 15 and 16. Mainly because I would rather one player at the top end and 2 in the late teens than 2 in the middle of both. Even having 7 + 15/16 is better IMO because I have a strong feeling whoever we take at 8 is gonna be a massive punt and id rather have 2 sliders that perform above than a top 10 pick that doesn't perform at that level.

I don't know much about Armstrong but it's definitely an area of need now. His stats are similar to Jamarra. If we think he'll end up an elite forward we have to look at him. Of course we need mids but reality is we need forwards and backs too. Looks like we'll get the backs through the NGA picks.

Yours was the 10269 post on this threadxand it seems as though you have not read even one of the others. Your opinion has been debunked over and over.

I’d rather an elite midfield in the mould of Sydney/pies. We can have max down there to build around with solid options all around. If the midfield talent is there Reid/smillie/langford/draper we will prioritise that over Armstrong I’m sure of it. Smoke and mirrors from us
