I posted this on Tuesday.

Herald Sun running with the below:

The Saints also have picks seven and eight in the national draft but are considering trading one of those top-10 picks for two later selections in the first-round.

Richmond and GWS are both considering deals with the Saints.

Exactly my son in law tells me he’s very sorry they’ve lost him and the kid can play and was developing nicely.
putting this & stavros intel on gws or richmond pick swaps together,im starting to like our extra wriggle room

would make sense to take the one best 7 mid that falls to us & use 10/11 or 15/16 in other areas,

my personal preference is to keep f1 and take trainor and dodson at 15/16,but very happy to trust in the club and if armstrong and 10/11 losing f1 is the way we go,then ok,but i guess if richmond got 8 off us armstrong is gone anyway, either to them or dees at 5 after shitting their pants,so im not seeing a map that gets armstrong to us,unless we keep 8 and take him & i wouldnt like that

lets just not find a way to f it up ffs

Update after the Saints recruited DFA Jack Carroll.

We still have the second smallest player list in the AFL (30 players) to Richmonds (27 players)

Our 30 players list includes 2 new players and 4 rookies (2 x cat B)

Originally 10 list spots available:

1 list spot is used for Jack Macrae
1 list spot is used for Jack Carroll
1 list spot is reserved for the (possible) redrafting of Brad Crouch probably as a rookie
2 list spots are reserved for the drafting of Academy prospects (Cole and Hoffman)
1 list spot is reserved to recruit F/S (Peckett) probably as a rookie
1 list spot is reserved to recruit a Sandringham Dragons player probably as a rookie

That leaves us only 3 list spots to fill from the AFL draft (and the AFL rookie draft)

We have picks #7, #8, #32, and #47

These picks will change in value with the burning of later picks by other clubs to match bids for their F/S or Academy players.

So we will be using pick #47 for Cole and/or Hoffman (which will probably be closer to pick #40 by then)
I don't think our 5th, 6th, and 7th round picks provide points towards price-matching if someone bids on either player and we wish to match. We may trade pick #47 (whatever it becomes) to an interested party for two later picks.

Anyway my point is that it looks as if we will only take 3 genuine picks in this draft

Picks #7, #8, and #32

That is not to say we can't trade future picks to improve our hand or swap #8 and #32 for #15 and #16 or whatever but Picks #7, #8 and #32 seems like a pretty good hand already.

Time to put on our collective poker face and watch as the first 6 draftees get picked and see what offers come in for our second pick, we would want something better that #15 and #16 for #8 and #32

Now I am not understanding why we pick swapped 27 for 32 and 45.

In the end Jack Macrae came to us for no swaps... is this correct?

Been a while since Bont and McRae played in the same midfield. The increase speed in the game put a stop to that.

So one current example and I would question how often Fin is playing big minutes in the middle.

We can’t push either forward very often with Owens already stationed there permanently as a mid size forward. He gets in Kings way enough without adding more marking options up there instead of genuine smalls. They would need to be spending good minutes on the wing and off half back if they aren’t both playing bulk midfield time.
We’re already pretty well served with creativity up forward with Higgins, Wilson & Henry plus potentially Hill & Butler!

#kildonan I think you are right re the list spots, although Crouch has to be done, so that will be another vacant position.

At present we have 2 genuine ruckman on our list, most clubs have at least 4 some more. Somewhere in our future transactions we need to find at least 1 possibly 2 ruckman?

The other obvious void is another key defender, but perhaps we simply move Caminiti to CHB and add Cole. Then add another key tall next year.

Or we grab cast offs to fill both eg Knobel & Phillips? My call would be to take advantage of the draft and fill the holes there. Take the hit next year and back the kids in. Take as many players at the draft/s as we have list spots.
Crouch will likely go onto the long term injury list opening up a spot mid season

As you say, he’s young, very young still. There was talk during the year of how far he’s come this year. He did look like Carlton found a good one. Strange delisting.
He was a victim of being behind Cripps, Walsh, Cerra & Hewitt..same as Kennedy!
Carlton will draft a gun at pick 3 & have the Camporealy twins coming in

Tarkyn O’Leary has signed for Frankston as well. Genuinely might not field a team in the VFL next year.

If you want to show your wares going to a stand alone club is much better. As a VFL player on an AFL aligned list you have to play to support others and don't get to play your own game. IOf you just want to have a kick it's fine but if being on a list is your dream you need to get out.

The thing is though, we
Will be given until January is what I’m hearing.
So we can use his list spot prior to the season opening, if he goes on the LTI?
Seems to me we need a KPD and/or ruck depth, more than we need Crouch, given his injury and given McRae and now Carroll joining the club...

a fully fit Crouch was good but a half fit Crouch was a liability against Geelong in his only game last season

If he retires it opens up a list spot I believe.

If he goes on the LTI it’s only mid season.

The move to the rookie list is only due to him being contracted and we would need to pay him out in full.

A retirement would mean a negotiated payout.

Not to mention they must pay a lot better $$$...

On that does anyone know what the salary cap situation is for VFL clubs aligned or otherwise?
