Sending it into one of the bottom 3 midfields in the league? Turnover city

A good rebounding HB should clear the midfield with precision kicking or overlap run through the wings. The midfield is much more important as a way to get the ball out of contested situations. Carrying one position inside mids just for clearance wins isn't something Lyon has ever been big on.

Yes, I did say Armstrong wasn't a great pick. However, if he understood list spots then he would have taken Cole, whilst Matt Whitlock isn't just a key defender. Also, getting Gerreyn who absolutely slid in that draft and taking him over Hofmann I think most would accept. Check out Gerreyn's highlights and tell me he isn't a better prospect than Hofmann.

Like I said, probably made a mistake with Armstrong, but if he took a mid instead then I would happily accept his draft haul. Not taking Hofmann also would give us another DFA option for a key defender or ruck (love Knobel).

Armstrong's kicking on goal is probably only rivalled by Curnow. He seems to kick goals from anything he gets his hands on. The rest of his game is meh but he looks like an elite goal kicker.

I've been very strong on this for a while. He is one of the most overrated players in this year's draft and that's thanks to guys like Cal Twomey who have a hard on for private school boys who either play for Sandy or Oakleigh Chargers.

I would have Jobe Shanahan, Jack Whitlock and Faull ahead of Armstrong by the length of flemington.

Depends what you want. Those other guys are pack splitters and old school forwards. Armstrong more Bailey Fritsch or Curnow like.

Noah Mraz would be handy for KP depth. He was one of the potential FRDP coming into the season and was injured all year. Simms with a late pick as a ruck forward too. Both expected to go late.

Armstrong is nothing like Curnow.

Not only is Armstrong lackadaisical and a double grabber like Sam Weideman was in his draft year, Curnow had the x factor and explosiveness at junior level that we are seeing today.

Armstrong is more Ryan Schoenmakers

I was listening to draft stars yesterday and the guys on there were saying they were surprised with how high Armstrong is ranked, and would actually flip it making Shanahan a potential top 10 pick and Armstrong around the pick 20 mark! Interesting…
Watching the clips, Shanahan covers the ground better, attacks the ball on the lead. Moves a lot like Joe Daniher.

I don't see the hype with Armstrong

Jeremy Cameron.

He also has a shoulder injury which has been impacting his ability to mark.

His ability to create separation and be a huge and consistent threat at either level whilst not being a massive leaper or big pack crasher or in your point having “X factor” tells me he must have something going for him.

I don’t want to draft him - because we have clear and obvious needs before another tall forward.

But he is best in this class and the only other Tall who I think has similar level of talent to him is Trainor.

He was just as damaging at state level. That is a very good trait.

Given the overall strength of Sandringham, it's concerning the rest of his game is 'meh'. In all likelihood, he won't expereince such a dominate set-up as he did in u18 football so need much more to his game if thats going to translate at the next level. Not to say he cant develop it but it's something to consider before spending a top 10 pick on them.

Is there any chance our f1 and our 40s pick buys back into the late first round? Getting Reid at 8 is really growing on me but I still want a tall in that end of first range.
Not so much. I remember when Hawks wanted Weddle it was a f1 plus a 2nd and it seemed that that was about the general asking price. tldr but there's no reason for other clubs to do us a favour.

Who do you think you guys will take with your first rounders?

And secondly, who do YOU hope you take?

Hoping the Armstrong vibes are part of the mind games.

If Melbourne reach for him at 5 that’s amazing. 9 would appear to be the more likely Dees pick for him, but if there is interest from Richmond or GWS, who might pick swap with us to steal him at 8… it’s a good spot for us to be.

This makes me want him less to be honest.

If he ends up playing in the backline at Sandringham in year 1 when we’re crying out for someone to transition into a mid at AFL level it will be a wasted pick.

Trying to make someone something they’re probably not is fraught with danger, and challenges their development. I’d hate to draft another flanker, spend 4 years trying to turn him into a mid before realising he’s not up it in that role and subsequently missing that same period invested in becoming a gun half back.

If we want a KPP draft a KPP
If we want a small forward draft a small forward
If we want a defender draft a defender
If we want a mid draft a mid.

I suspect the way you feel and the WHY they maybe considering it may have something to do with this.

You are far more forgiving than I am, then. Screw up one of our all-important top 10 picks and and don't bother to understand our list configuration = a massive fail in my books

You know the win actually could have been culture building? Maybe it's the catalyst for big pre-seasons for our young guys. Maybe if we'd thrown the game a player like Nasiah would become disenfranchised.
Or maybe the loss would've driven the players to come back stronger and better

What if the win makes the team come up with some false narrative that they are indeed good enough and they overrate themselves over pre-season thinking they can settle for anything less than 100% effort?

Melbourne semeed to do ok in 2021 after finishing 17th in 2019 and 9th in 2020

Jason Taylor was a function a week ago as a guest speaker and he stated that we would be taking mids in the draft.

For pick 5 I'd be happy with either Langford or Smith.

Pick 9 my choice in no particular order would be Lindsay/Allan/Smillie. I've slowly come around to Murphy Reid even though I'm still a bit sceptical whether his lack of speed holds up at AFL level.

I have heard we have strong interest in Cooper Hynes and reaching him for our second pick may not be out of the question.
