I wasn’t as melty as others last night, but after a good sleep I’ve woken and am now pumped for our two new recruits.

Let’s break the curse and turn Trav into a gun mid, and I’ve accepted we now have Roo 2.0. Let’s get behind them.
Yep. I was a bit young for Barks. But I at least get to see his son. Who turns out to make Roo look like Lewis Roberts Thomson

You've been pumping him up for awhile. I know you're a track watcher, and your opinions are generally good, so i'm curious:
What do you see in him, and what kind of a mid is he?
Do you believe the coaches see the same talent and potential as you do?
Do you think he gets a gig early next year?
He’ll definitely debut, carried a back issue this year but worked hard this off season & is very fit.
He’s a well rounded player, strong, clean hands, can mark overhead & kicks it well…Hawthorn wanted him in the mid season draft but we had the pick before them!

“I played as an intercepting half-back all my junior years”

Yep checks out
I was more thinking…

Gutted to just miss out, he dusted himself off and instead produced an outstanding performance at the WA State Combine to rank top five nationally in the 2km time trial (No.2), agility test (No.3), standing vertical jump (No.2) and running vertical jump (No.4).

His coaches describe him as intelligent and coachable, with a clear understanding of what's required to succeed and a drive to executive it.

Okay, thanks for that 👍
So he potentially fills a mid role. He's around 22-23 years old too, right!?
Last question:
Does he play inside or outside, or a dual position type?

Tell us what you really think Joffa
Can't stand their insufferable supporters. They have the hide to come here and troll and are surprised when given a serve. That idiotic trade at the end of the night just shows the level of incompetence that permeates through that joint.

Anyway I really think some are wallowing in their own pity over last night's selections and I agree many are underrating the impact Macrae will have in the midfield.

People look two years down the track when they retire. Well a lot changes in two years.
Two years ago we didn't have Pou, Wilson, Garcia, Henry, Carroll, Macrae or Hall, none the ten year Dusty type but shows how much a list profile can change.
Who knows who we manage to successfully target in trade and FA before they retire.

it said those losses including crouch had freed up salary cap space.

It spoke about crouch in a past tense
Nah - go back and read the whole thing again. The reporter is very confused - but then again it is the Herald Sun.

He selectively quotes that "we lost him" but that was reference to Lyon talking about Crouch not being available during the season not that he has been completely cut from our list.

He has been delisted, but is still contracted and will be assigned a rookie spot with a final decision to be made sometime before the end of the SSP period on 19th Feb 2025.

The references to creating additional salary cap space relate to Membrey, Ross and Battle.

Is he training in no.40 because if so, I am surprised how short he is in comparison to the other mids.

I think the point is that right now we have plenty of youth with sky high potential across every line.

Except for our onball brigade.

Our next rung of upcoming mids are purely made up of hybrids types bar windy - however I reckon he ends up slotting in for Jweb in 12 months

I think most that are upset we didn’t nab a genuine mid are more projecting on how things look in 2-3 years time when he and Steele are worse than what they are now.
Wallpaper over cracks

Tauru and Travaglia both look like very solid picks - Tauru maybe more than solid.

But this post nails it. You have teams like Carlton and North stockpiling mids and Saints really have a couple of 30 year olds and a bunch of hope.

Can only think that the club is looking to try and raid the stockpiles at some point in future because even if Tauru is Riewoldt times two we are not in a top 4 window with our current midfield options.

The melts on here last night are genuinely embarrassing. Those comparing to Clarke and Coffield need to zoom out and look at the bigger picture. Look at the club they are coming into and the quality of coaches and football department in comparison. Clarke and Coffield walked into an under funded program led by Allan Richardson (picked by bloody Elshaugh as well FYI.)

Twomey said Travaglia will be a mid, our statement mentions midfield before defense and the kid himself said he wants to be a mid and models his game on Will Day. I have a feeling 17 other clubs would have picked him at this exact spot as he was clearly best available. Seriously, take a breath.

I love Travaglia's running ability.....if we have Wilson, Garcia etc and him running all game it places huge pressure on other teams.

Hoping he is similar to Wilson and can take the game on.

I am in the camp of extreme concern re our midfield stocks - there is a lot of what ifs and reliance on older players and potential of others to develop. No out and out guns.

Spose it is in Ross we trust - hope there is method in the madness with the game plan evolving not us taking pot shot.

You Joffa and others are seriously missing the point.

If you want to focus on what Cal said. He said that if he doesn’t make the transition he will be a 200 game half back flank.

He said I don’t know why the saints fans are upset. Tauru COULD be anything and play in all 3 areas of the ground.

What people wanted. Expected. Hoped for.

Was that with 2 top 10 picks a full hand of futures and knowing we have a plethora of cap space next year. That we would trade up and land a blue chip midfield talent if one wouldn’t land at our pick.

Thats arguably the missing piece after the Tauru selection giving us a blue chip tall that can swing both ends of the ground and is an elite intercept player.

Glad you mention Hall…forgotten man amongst our faithful…not for long, the 2025 Hugo!

Alix Tauru is arguably the most exciting prospect in the draft pool…he’ll be embraced by our young and old supporters!
Can’t wait to see him at RSEA!!

Slow burn next year me thinks. But I think he will put bums on seats.

Adidas already sponsoring him 😂

I agree Premium. Not all of those kids will make it obviously but the talent they have is light years ahead of players we had in depth even 5 years ago. De-listings are going to be hard even if they haven't played AFL games. It will show up those that desperately want to make it unless injury intervenes.

Jimmy Webster is a solidly very good AFL player. No star but seriously reliable and we make finals if he didn't have that brain fade in pre-season.

He should be the role model for Hastie, Shoe and McLennan. Who of you want to be a first named medium/small defender at AFL level for a decade? It will be the one with the best "above the shoulders" who is driven to ride the roller-coaster that Jimmy has.
Liam O’Connell & Hoffman in the mix too!

I don't think I am missing any point. I have been on the mid bandwagon for a decade and have repeatedly said that I was on the Reid bandwagon since the champs.

My point is that list profiles change quickly, we didn't have Pou, Wilson, Garcia, Macrae, Hall or Dow on the list 2 years ago. By the time Steele and Macrae retire we might have 6 more mids including trades and FA's.
I don't think it is ideal, but it is not doom and gloom. Right this second, our midfield profile is better than the one that was so competitive in the last two months we beat Sydney, swamped Geelong, made fools of Essendon and then almost broke Carltons heart.
Would have I liked 2 of the top 6 mids? Of course, and as I said, I am not a great wrap for Travaglia and preferred Reid ( not Allan though), however Travaglia is not a Coffield, and can go through the mids.

Tauru could be a real x factor player.

So I believe we have pure mids in the following
Steele
Macrae
Pou
Wilson
Garcia
Hall
Dow
Clark
Jones
Windhager

Others who go through the mids
Henry
Stocker
Sinclair.
