Massive risk. These massive long term deals are full of huge risk. To get someone to commit and buy in fully and bust your hump for 9-10 years is an enormous call and show of faith.

In saying this if he turns into a star long term then 1.2m a year in years 7,8,9 and 10 of this deal might be seen as a bargain price as the cap increases.

If you are the suns you wanna make sure you know and understand this person on and off the field extremely well.

but it is only 60 games. He needs to show he is a superstar in next 40-50 odd games or else Suns are going to go slow and prevent him from hitting the trigger.

Not sure how the trigger works, is it automatic or does it require player to further put down a signature or does the club have him locked down.

Stringer has hit trigger for 2025 but now wants out of the *, he will have a better chance of getting to Pies if he is not locked down. Can the * hold him down for 2025 if the Pies don't play ball. If he is not in contract, he can nominate terms in PSD.

Bud got offered that tenure off the back of being the best key forward in 2 decades, perhaps ever. That's the type of performance you want to lock in for almost a decade. Andrew has been good but still a fair way off the best in the league, and now you've essentially locked him in at that level. Where's the incentive to get better and fulfil his potential if he's getting over a mil a year regardless?

Gold Coast have shown their strategy many times to be lock any player showing promise or being a high draft pick into a long term deal. They and Brisbane got burned by many draftees doing their 2 year draftee contract and then wanting to leave.

It might work okay if you get it right, but the gave Jack Lukosius a huge deal too, and Ben King. They gave Chol a big deal to leave Richmond but then ditched him because they favoured King and Lukosius and knew Walter was coming even though Chol in 2022 was just as good as their 2023 and he was still kicking bags in the VFL. Jed Walter hasn't shown much yet but just wait and he'll get a huge contract too.

60 games is over half the games in the period. Having said that, even if he did his knee and missed a whole year it is still reachable which is really where it needed to be for it to be of any value to both Suns and Mac, Suns might of preferred 70 but thats getting closer to missing a full season and the odd hamstring away from it being really tight

In Stringers case 2025 was automatically added to his contract when he hit the trigger, so Stringer is contracted.

Frost also hit a trigger with us for a 2025 contract.

Not wishing to argue, but I was told (by the same person that tipped me that we were into him) that we offered Mac $6 mil over 5 yrs.
$1.2 mil per year plus 'bonus' payments (TBC)

He could have been laughing all the way too the bank playing for a club that has a great history, massive fan base, 13 premierships, a modern day coach and young teammates that enjoy each other’s company and play exciting football; instead he is playing for a club that hasn’t played finals in it’s 12 year existence, will never establish a strong fan base or club culture and will always be playing in front of crowds where the cheers will always be louder from the opposition supporters. Absolutely mind boggling if he has chosen that plastic franchise over the Mighty Hawks!

Stainer is contracted for next year, someone will have to do a deal for him. My money is he is still there next year then whips out his diget last have a dozen games and scores a contract at some luckless club and then goes back to Mr Inconsistency. Really could be a great player but………………
