Pretty much summed up how I've posted a number of times over the years and pretty much like AFL Draft Central's Draft summary. Seen here playing for the Murray Bushrangers against the then Ballarat Rebels

Jordon Butts

Height: 197cm
Weight: 80kg
D.O.B: 31-12-1999
DRAFT ANALYSIS: "Jordon Butts is the baby of the 2017 draft crop. He is a great mark, versatile and can run all day"
Leagues: AFL U18 Championships, Coates Talent League Boys
STRENGTHS: Marking, versatility, accumulation, spread, scope
IMPROVEMENTS: Strength, defensive pressure
A year ago, Jordon Butts was one of a number of players in line to be a late/rookie selection and 12 months on it appears he is in the same position, having unluckily missed out last year. He was born on the last day of the eligible year in his top-age year, so recruiters saw he still had plenty of upside. In 2018, Butts extended his capabilities to not only being able to play up either end, but on a wing as well. He played a mixture of key position forward, key position back and through the midfield to become a "Mr Fix It" for clubs keen to mould the big man into the player they are looking for. He could still improve his strength, and his defensive pressure, but his ability to spread, take a truckload of marks and then just find the ball is very admirable for a player of his size. Butts should be seen as a long-term prospect, because even 12 months on he has made developments, and with some VFL experience under his belt, could be more prepared to land on a list.

What’s everyone going to do when Dowling comes in and the honeymoon of having a new player is replaced with the realisation he isn’t the player we are in desperate need of?

Not saying that is a definite reality. But, given his deficiencies with disposal, it’s likely.

My point being, the answers aren’t going to come from what we have. But rather what we don’t have yet.

Our future midfield (bar Soligo) isn’t even at the club yet, is my guess. It’s a long, long road. I hope we are all ready for it.
The best way to find out if guys don't have it is to give them chances and find out. We'll never know unless they start drawing a line in the sand and say to some of these non-performers enough is enough and see if someone else has it.

Hamill is 6 years into his career, play him for the rest of the year and find out for sure. If he doesn't perform then cut him. No more of this crap like we did with CEY where we kept him for 8 years for a 30 games and just refused to play him early and find out for sure how he was. The only people who are gonna take this team forward is the youth, it's not Tex, it's not Laird or Smith or Crouch. Dawson and Rankine are busting their guts doing what they can, but the youth needs to be fully empowered to take ownership of this team, not continually be put in fringe positions. Look at how well our backline is performing after been given the reigns from guys like Talia, Hartigan, Doedee and Brown.

I beg to differ. The problem with CEY, and Hammill, is that we haven't been quick enough to make a decision. They know all they need to know - these are fringe players, who are never likely to be more than that. Unfortunately, these fringe players are being allowed to persist on the list for far too long.

We don't need to see them playing all the way to the end of the season, just to reach a conclusion which is already blindingly obvious. On the contrary, players like these should be sent to the back of the queue, with their places taken by youngsters who have scope for future development.

The problem with dropping all of the veterans, is that it leaves us with a ridiculously young & inexperienced team. The kids need a solid core of mature & experienced players, to guide, lead and protect them. Unfortunately, the next generation of leaders (aside from Dawson) are utter crap. This makes our few remaining veterans even more important, and harder to drop. It's a catch 22 situation, the origins of which date back the better part of a decade.

All but six - Dawson, Rankine, Max, Soligo, Thilthorpe, Fogarty (just) - should be on the trade table.
Depressingly - apart from Rachele, Worrell, Curtin, perhaps Pedlar and N Murray - who would get a nibble of genuine interest from other clubs?
These guys should be untouchable as well. If we're trading them, its a new rebuild. Even so, it's more than half the current best team.

Who do we want to delist end of this year? I would like to see peoples take.
Heres mine. Obviously all wont be cut because this is almost half the bloody list which is damning.

Brodie Smith will be resigned unfortunately, because we are the softest club in the land
Riley O'Brien cut up his contract, pay him out and look him in the eye and tell him to go be the best doctor in the land
Chris Burgess delist, he sucks
Elliott Himmelberg delist, had far too long on the list
Hugh Bond delist
James Borlase resign
Lachlan Gollant resign
Lachlan Sholl trade/delist
Lachlan Murphy delist, back to CROM MANIA you go.
Ned McHenry delist, go be the best fisherman in the sea
Patrick Parnell delist
Rory Sloane retired
Sam Berry resign
Taylor Walker retired, thanks for the memories champ
Will Hamill resign

The Berg is a free agent he can go to the Giants who have indicated they want him at the last day of his contract.

Very expensive business to delist contracted players by the way.

Thats a given, so Mutineer what players would you delist that are eligible this year?

Also, if i was the Crows i'd be throwing money at Ryley Sanders from the Doggies, the kid looks great and such a smooth mover. Moves so much like JHF.
Is in the first year of a three year contract, will sign a one year contract extension then almost certain to move to the Tasmania Devils end of 2027. AFL have indicated they will ensure the Devils are a going concern from first year in 2028, so hard to see any Tasmanian not signing on for their start up, compo will be generous.

They'll still be limited to how many players they can take from any individual team surely?

So … given where our season currently stands. Is it better for us to find some form, and sneak into the finals. Or, win a few, lose a few and end up with a top 6 pick?

In answer to your question, we won't be playing finals.

I agree. Guess what I am saying is, is it a bad thing that we end up with a top six pick.
The state of our list is crying out for elite talent. And the best way to get that is from top draft picks

10 - Dylan Moore - 5 + 5
5 - Jack Ginnivan - 4 + 1
5 - Jai Newcombe - 3 + 2
5 - Will Day - 2 + 3 (those on 5 could be any of these combinations)
4 - Jack Scrimshaw - 0 + 4
1 - James Borlase - 1 + 0

I can only see Scrimshaw getting a 4 and 0. Mitchell must have liked Scrimshaw's game.
Borlase in there..he can hold his head up on the day as one of the few who put in all day

Not a bad thing at all... but imo the priority is preparing for next season by getting games into our quality young talent.

Sholl, Berry, Schoenberg would all have some intetest. Unlikely to get anything significant but maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder.

Also Keane may request a trade still and could get us something decent in return.
