The reason AFL Trade Period goes for so long is so the AFL can make money off the ads - from radio, video, website, and print media. Many of the deals get done early on but the announcements get 'held back' to extend the coverage period.

Trade period could (should) be a 3-day event and the exact same number of deals would be done.
5 day event, Mon- Fri would prob be about right, not the 10 days it is now.

Stood next to Macca at a Norwood game once. Middle of winter and he was wearing shorts and a singlet! As tough as nails.
One of my sons mates a few years back was playing U14's for Norwood Payneham and Macca was helping coach the juniors at that time. Within weeks he had the kids perfecting the stab pass, none of the floaty stuff they were used to dishing up.

He was my 2nd favourite player behind the big #9 Rocky - I spent a fair bit of my youth at the Parade and I reckon Macca would laugh and probably nod!
Depends on how you said it to him! :) Neville was a great player. I worked with a Glenelg defender who used to stand him and he said he was the most difficult opponent he ever had.

One of the greats - player and person
