Who is the other player that will be best 22 in 2025?

Welsh?

I'm not seeing that if that's who you refer to and pick 4 may not be ready immediately either?
Cumming, ANB, Peatling, Pick #4.

Obviously assumes that pick #4 will be best 22 from the start, which is probably not an unfair assumption to be making.

I was assuming pick 4 could play straight away, at the very least it improves the floor for our depth. These high end mids seem to make that step up to AFL straight away these days, no reason we can't expect that with the options at pick 4.

There are players in the top 4 depending who we pick that may not be ready immediately. i.e. Draper back issues and Lalor depending on how his hamstring rehab is tracking? Doubt we'd be pushing those 2 too hard, even O'Sullivan may need to be taken along steadily.

Now there's an interesting possibility. If we're headed in that direction, then maybe Chayce Jones is also a chance, with another pre-season to get over the lingering effects of his recovery from the lisfranc injury?

As I said... it's an assumption.

It is absolutely a good off season. Hopefully one of the best we have had.
Doesn't mean we couldn't have trimmed the fat a bit more and added some additional talent.
Yep. Bring in talent but also generate talent.

We know people's ceilings already. Move them on

To me the argument is more about players we didn't need to have on our list. Like Sloane this year.

There is no need for us to have Smith on the list. Ridiculous that we pushed him through to an extension and then dropped him.

I would say the following should not be on the list:
Smith
Schoenberg
Burgess

We could have easily removed one or two of these to add in extra talent before the compromised drafts.

Then you also have the following fringe guys:
Chayce
Berry
Pedlar
Cook
Borlase
T Murray
Bond
Butts (I would be trying to encourage a trade)

Some of these are good depth and some have promise, but if we really wanted to cut the fat and try for more talent, we could.

I just think we missed an opportunity in a deep draft to add in extra young talent. Again it seems like we think we have a top 4 list.
One of Chayce , Berry or Laird would have been good to jettison for a draft pick to bundle

I would held off extending Borlase which we only did post season and seen what happened during the trade period. Especially once we knew Keane was staying.

I know people will say he is handy depth but after four years on the list he should of been offering more than that.

With the injury history of Murray, Butts and Worrell maybe we thought we needed Borlase for coverage

Borlase had 4 and 2 hitouts in R14/R15 games.

Maybe that's why they're keeping him...

Eight AFC players registered a hitout stat in 2024 for a total of 1050 HO. ROB of course had 86% of those (898), EH and Gollant (34 and 7) are no longer at the club. Walker (16) only takes F50 stoppages.

Burgess (34), Strachan (29), Thilthorpe (26) and Borlase (6) are the other 4.

I just hope they don’t see Draper of the Sam variety as the solution

In a perfect world where TT wasn't injured, i reckon Dragon plays more in '24 chopping out for TT. It also explains why we pushed Borlase forward.

I guess we will see what happens in '25 is we again don't recruit a ruckman.

At least we are stacked for tall defenders, there should be minimal temptation to draft one with a first rounder.

I'm still convinced the club is looking to have Thithorpe as a ruckman resting forward with a forward/back tall enough to ruck being the backup.

I would actually love this if its doable.

His athleticism and skills below his knees would be exactly whats needed in the modern game.

It does scare me that he could get injured doing it.

Imagine a ruckman with above average general skills.

Have we ever had one of those?

Think this is my biggest issue with this off-season. Apparently a super draft (or at least deep draft) and were only grabbing one player (plus Welsh).

Could have paid out a couple of players and had a few more cracks at this pool of players. Especially with so many picks on the table due to the bids etc.

Happy with the ins (think ANB an overpay) but just feel like it's a missed opportunity - especially with Tassie eating up the draft soon.
You can't just pay out players.

I wish folks would stop talking about that. Presumably we didn't go into this season with massive unspent salary cap room - which we'd need if we're bringing a contract forward to pay someone out.
