We don't have room on the list to do that.

It appears that the club is chasing Nasia Wanganeen-Milera in 2025, and that trade would almost certainly require our 2025 1st.
That is correct yes, unless we delist/trade someone, but the likelihood of that is low. I would still look into it if I was the club though.
NWM would be great if we can get the deal done for sure
All of these options are better than what I was responding to which was trading pick 4 for Richmond's F1 imo.

Richmond would never trade their F1.

They know they’re going to be bottom. The whole silver lining of being bottom is you get the number 1 draft pick. It makes a very long season of smashing somewhat tolerable.

If next year was a complete write off with nothing to show for it, it would be a disaster in PR.

Plus who knows, could be another Essendon/drug scandal to change who finishes bottom.

We finally have a good pick in a draft full of good midfielders. Take the best available.

No one at the time was saying to get rid of these guys like Laird & Smith, if anything people were criticising us for getting rid of too many players. In hindsight, sure maybe that would've been better, but at the time hardly anyone thought so.

I got it wrong back then that Walker was done, but other than that I said we should be more aggressive trading guys back in 2019!

Again, if they could get a top 4 pick in a supposed super draft year they might. Is a Smith or Lalor potentially better than the player they could take at 1 next year + an extra year in the system when they are rebuilding. I see a number of possibilities if they wanted our pick 4

His posts didn't have anything to do with survivors that you think you should decide if a very public figure can or can't be joked about is funny 😃
See, this is the thing. I am ASKING for people to THINK before they post. Things like this are incredibly upsetting for those of us who are survivors. It is no laughing matter. There is absolutely nothing funny about any scenario in which an adult predator has been charged with brutal sexual assaults and exploitation of men, women and minors. That you think it's perfectly fine to make jokes about the situation says so much more about you.

It's a shame we didn't take in the same philosophy when we had a 25 year old contracted Rory Laird (same age as Shai Bolton) and a 27 year old contracted Brodie Smith (same age as Dan Rioli) right there to offload at the end of 2019
I think the issue is we got rid of everyone who wanted to leave.

I don't think they ever wanted to go interstate.

On Tigers huge haul of first rounders. Get the cheque book ready for 3 years time…

If Richmond takes all eight picks, those players will all come out of contract at the same time at the end of 2027 — in the months before Tasmania comes into the league.

It would create an inflationary effect given top 25 picks are often paid as much as $500,000 in their fourth seasons so spreading out those picks over two seasons would put less pressure on the salary cap.
These days many (most?) early draft picks sign extensions during their first season, so it's unlikely they'll all come out of contract at the same time in 2027.

That's the issue. Even if we had another club interested in Brodie Smith today we still couldn't trade him unless he agreed to it, and it's unlikely he'd agree to get shipped off interstate with presumably just 1 year to go before he retires.

Clubs really need to be able to trade players without their consent. Why is it fine that a player can just demand a trade regardless of how long is left on his contract, but not that a club trade a contracted player without a request makes absolutely no sense.

I was suggesting trading Laird at the time.

Nobody liked it, but I thought he both would offer a big return while being replaceable.

This is a very reasonable post, and anyone who strongly disagrees needs to go have a think about things.

This is just a footy board. People who have survived sexual assault or incidents of self harm don't need reminders of that from people making "jokes".

You don't know what others have been through, and you don't know what your words will trigger in them - so it's just not being a dickhead by being considerate towards that.

Yes definitely historically agreed. There is a reasonable chance though Player Managers will be smart enough to encourage any player coming OOC end of 2027 to play it differently this time (hold off for better deal etc)

Yep. That macca guy (no idea if he has history on this board) in particular seems to have a very strange agenda against Jenny.

hopefully north take someone not in this group.

That leaves Draper and Smith at 4.

Could trade 4 to 6 and still get Draper plus a future pick
If we want Draper, there is zero chance we would take that risk.
