Hugh Greenwood Likes ThisWhich explains why we're an average club, we focus far too much on stats and ignore outcome. We award max b&f votes to our midfield even when their opposition has smoked them. We judge a hacked kick off one step down the throat of a loose defender equal to an opponent's pressureless kick to the advantage of their target. The Thor/Roo social interaction a few years ago told us all we need to know. We're a stats driven system and until that changes, our ceiling will remain bottom half of top 8.
I dont doubt our senior players help new players fit in.As much as I dislike the Crows "good bloke, good family, trys his guts out" policy. I've heard MANY players credit ROB (Bird-O) with their development.
Just this week N.Murray said he helped him greatly when arriving at the club.
Now this may also be part of the problem but it does count for something.
Even If it is only keeping Muz calm at training
Ever heard anyone credit Laird or Smithers?I dont doubt our senior players help new players fit in.
Was this the interview he wheeled out "Organic Growth?"I liked up till his ruck comment which was all over the place, but also a few pearlers at the end there:
his view of not needing to 'trade for the sake of it' was solidified in 2016 as 'we didn't trade for gibbs in 2016 and yet still won the minor premiership' ...yes... and then got hammered in the granny. how can he make that comment with a straight face, if there was a time to trade that was it!
and then the old 'no one wants to come to south Australia, but it's not an excuse' his old man used to say the same, would it kill the club to have people within it that celebrate the state
I think he did slip an organic growth in there too but i was too shaken by the gibbs comment to exactly remember the context thanks for sharing the interview as well it was interesting, I think reid a decent operator maybe but when he makes comments like that about big picture stuff it makes you wonderWas this the interview he wheeled out "Organic Growth?"
I thought that one went out with ol'
"QLD Connection Camp"
Well, we're an injury away from finding that outI'd love for us to see if Butts can ruck
Sounds like he should be a coachAs much as I dislike the Crows "good bloke, good family, trys his guts out" policy. I've heard MANY players credit ROB (Bird-O) with their development.

I don't think we will go for Draper. Haven't we got a "no dickhead" policy. That view seems quite common here and I must admit I haven’t seen enough of Draper.
Is your view based on qualitative and/or quantitative factors?
I'd actually be happy with that.Sounds like he should be a coach
Wasn't there one bloke on here at the time that kept harping on about Arlo?If you follow draft threads you've probably heard of his older brother Arlo Draper. There were some people in here that were keen on him but he didn't get drafted.
Edit. He did get drafted actually to Collingwood. Must have been delisted.
Arlo, Josh Goater, Logan McDonald, Caleb Poulter, Josh Ward, Elijah Hollands, Ben Hobbs, Jack Lukosius, Dylan Stephens, Jackson Hately, Mitch O'Neil.Wasn't there one bloke on here at the time that kept harping on about Arlo?
I did as well as Matty Roberts in the same yearWasn't there one bloke on here at the time that kept harping on about Arlo?

This is why criticisms of Hamish are generally to be taken with a grain of salt. I'd say a huge portion of players pre draft said to be must gets don't go on to be good players. Yet we have the gall to smash Hamish for a missed selection like we would have done better. One bloke? Half the board was dead set keen on him.
The Jake Soligo thread starts with several pages in a row of people bemoaning we missed out on Arlo Draper.
if Butts isn't in our best 22 because of the others ahead of him, I think it's safe to say our backline is in very good shape.
Which is great because at the start of 2024 it was arguably our biggest weakness.
Yeah there was at least one that wouldn't shut up about him. When he slid down the order on draft night, people thought we were about to get a bargain for Draper and we took Soligo instead. Pretty funny in hindsight.Wasn't there one bloke on here at the time that kept harping on about Arlo?
Battersby had some fans iirc.Arlo, Josh Goater, Logan McDonald, Caleb Poulter, Josh Ward, Elijah Hollands, Ben Hobbs, Jack Lukosius, Dylan Stephens, Jackson Hately, Mitch O'Neil.
There have been plenty of Bigfooty favourites who haven't made the grade. That's just how footy works, unfortunately.
Always always far too slow to make it IMO, hasn't got the lateral movement to cover for it or the height as a point of difference.Battersby had some fans iirc.
There are no guarantees whether a young draftee can translate into AFL success...Arlo, Josh Goater, Logan McDonald, Caleb Poulter, Josh Ward, Elijah Hollands, Ben Hobbs, Jack Lukosius, Dylan Stephens, Jackson Hately, Mitch O'Neil.
