Not quite - North demanded a future (2022) second rounder as we'd already traded our 2021 second rounder to Richmond the year before for Higgins. The 2022 pick wound up being Van Es.

we did it again

we could write a ****in novel on burning picks on KPD. adams, clavarino. who was the port dud?

Who is going to be the rookie list player ? from Sandy.

Choices:

Hipwell or Watson
Hall-Hagan or Lowe
Blamires

Seems to be the only options

I'd actually take Blamires- versatile, team minded & the youngest & was captain of Sandy in his draft year, I believe.

I reckon Lowe is probably the best of them but a bit limited. Hipwell looks good at times but hasn't come on as you'd have expected. Occasionally he plays a game where you think he's come good but follows up a week later with a low possession nothing game. Blamires seems to be involved a lot and a bit of a jack of all trades type. Hall-Kahan has dropped right off. Watson a bit of a GOP at VFL level to me.

None of them are jumping off the stats sheet.

Cupboard is pretty bare at sandy.
I'd probably have blamiries in front.
Watson and Lowe are more high production but older, and look like good vfl players and that's it.
Hall kahan has already had a chance so unsure if they will go back to the well there.
Docking not up to it.
Maybe they go for Mitch Ryan or vessely as a project

What about Bernier that played the 2 weeks before mid season draft

It was always unlikely we were going to get a good player out of the deal. The idea was to sacrifice a rookie spot to attract players to sandy.

Not sure he’d leave for an extra $100k we’re probably offering more
My thoughts of the matter are the following:

- If Stengle is available it will probably take 150-200k per year more to land him. Which also poses the question of, if we are talking that money for Stengle it’s realistic Battle could be landing 100k + p/year more then our 800 on offer - which is band 1 territory.

- We can’t afford to trigger band 1 on Battle and to lose that for Stengle.

- Stengle coming and keeping Battle makes us better but doesn’t fix our midfield issue and you are effectively going to have to overpay both to a degree to stay/come. Better also doesn’t mean contention.

Surely we need elite midfielders or significant key position players rather than a small forward. We should have thrown those dollars at De Koning last year rather than a small forward. Dont get me wrong Stengle is a quality player but we need to ensure our midfield and spine are solid before topping up on players like Stengle. Free agents are a free hit I know, but we also need to balance our TPP with respect to what we are paying our own players.

Also worth pointing out. We aren’t bidding against Geelong. We are bidding against Essendon. So an extra 100k or an extra year is realistically not enough.
Essendon, the club with the infinite Salary Cap

We did. He chose to stay.

Many on here bagged sos for that move too.

Irrespective. An extra 100k probably isn’t landing him

Yeah but we have the Brad hill factor. I honestly reckon that will be massive in this.

You have to take FAs while they are there. To me our small forward stocks are the most critical shortage. Our midfield is bad but more through lack of absolute premium quality rather than pure numbers.

To me we'd be best to draft a young mid and try to lure a player like Jack Macrae or Luke Parker for the bridging period. Otherwise chase some existing young mids like Ward or Hobbs and perhaps even Will Brodie or Hately.
