Yeah but we have the Brad hill factor. I honestly reckon that will be massive in this.
More likely too want to hang out with Brad Crouch IMO. If he's lonely an old mate might help as a lure.

If we keep Battle and Land Stengle - But finish 10th next year, would you be happy we landed the free agent still? You have to take FAs while they are there. To me our small forward stocks are the most critical shortage. Our midfield is bad but more through lack of absolute premium quality rather than pure numbers.
To me we'd be best to draft a young mid and try to lure a player like Jack Macrae or Luke Parker for the bridging period. Otherwise chase some existing young mids like Ward or Hobbs and perhaps even Will Brodie or Hately.
800k monopoly money or is it based on Hannebery deal?As long as $800K is the new $600K, I’m in.
Get him outta there. He lives with Eddie Betts I believe, whose wife is his new agent.
Maybe, who knows, 800 x 6 or 850 x 5 may though, more security and more money. We did. He chose to stay.
Many on here bagged sos for that move too.
Irrespective. An extra 100k probably isn’t landing him

Not a shot. I’m curious.
I think he makes us better. I don’t think he guarantees September. I still think we are in trouble without some serious work in that midfield.
Yeah fair.I think you get talent when you can. It makes more sense than losing Battle and hoping to get a draft pick in who probably takes 4 years to develop. No guarantees in life but you'd rather go in to next year with a competitive list that stay bottom 4.
How is it topping up? A FA that is a quality player, that might (not many do) want to come to the Saints.Surely we need elite midfielders or significant key position players rather than a small forward. We should have thrown those dollars at De Koning last year rather than a small forward. Dont get me wrong Stengle is a quality player but we need to ensure our midfield and spine are solid before topping up on players like Stengle. Free agents are a free hit I know, but we also need to balance our TPP with respect to what we are paying our own players.
6. trade for Stengle, lose Battle and get band1Possible outcomes relating to rumour file in order of my preference:
1. Retain Battle, recruit Stengle and just use of natural 1st to take the best mid available.
2. Lose Battle, gain band 1 pick, Don’t recruit Stengle.
3. Retain Battle, miss on Stengle.
4. Lose Battle, gain Stengle and cancel out of compo.
5. Lose Battle, miss on Stengle, gain less than band 1.
I’m all scenarios we have options to find another pick by moving future picks.
Definitely prefer Battle long term over Stengle pound for pound.
Obviously I hope that 1 is the most likely scenario but who fookin knows. Feel as though we get stung with no 5 as per

I agree we need to look at mids, but what quality mid is a free agent? Cripps? Bont? Reid, Butters? Not one of them so if they wanted to come to the Saints (history shows that quality doesn't) it would cost us any drafting dps that could land us a quality kid.
So what do we do? We apparently have a war chest. We have the possibility to land Stengle, we need to do it, and we need to resign Josh Battle. If we do that, a very good spine player retained, a very good small forward recruited and if we have a top 5 pick the best mid available.
This only happens though if Battle is resigned. It would be the ultimate in foolishness if Battle goes and we pick up Stengle, unless of course we trade a future first for Stengle and lose Battle so we get a band 1.
And don’t we need to see what Battle decides first?Raises a number of questions for me and that includes how much we should be paying Battle.
It would be because Stengel is now potentially available....Is there a chance we are chasing Stengle because Collard has indicated he wants to go home?
Would be shattered if Collard wants to leave us.

You can't have enough good players in any area of the ground.Small forward pockets are the cream not the cake.
Could we please bake the cake first.
We don’t need Stengle
Butler is 29 next season. If Stengle really is just gonna go for the highest bidder, i don't want him especially since Butler and Higgins are still firing with Collard and Henry ready to take over long-term and we'll probably recruit another small in the near future
Smells so much like one of those where he crosses over for big money then flops because hes secured the bag and theres no incentive for him to work hard anymore. We can't afford to be paying a bloke 800k only for him to not repay the investment
Which midfielders are available as a FA this year?If we’re going to over pay I only want to over pay for midfielders otherwise we could shoot ourselves in the future bidding on midfielders and not have the cap space needed.
I truly do not mind the above idea.Which midfielders are available as a FA this year?
Which have indicated they will leave their club?
When has a quality mid has ever indicated they want to come to St.Kilda.
How do we get this mid without trading for him?
Trade for Stengle, get band1 for Battle get 2 top 5 picks get two of the best mids.
Only way we get mids this year.
