It's a shambles, if a player from Sandy was dominating or deserved a spot on a list, they'd be picked up in the mid season, national or rookie draft early on before they even got to our guaranteed rookie pick.

So we have committed to a Sandy player not good enough for any other list spot at any other club. It'll never work other than giving up a token (precious) list spot to try to strengthen Sandy.

What makes it worse, is we delist guys and cant rerookie them, maybe even Hotton, who'd be twice the player of any Sandy player eligible this year.
Exactly. The only way it would work is if a Sandy player exploded AFTER the mid-season draft. Its a charity list spot that we cant afford to give up to a bloke that couldnt even get a vote in a VFL BnF

We would still not have any preferential rights in any draft. So any club with a pick in front ours has earlier access.

It's a medium-long term strategy.

How does it work medium/long term unless we get some sort of priority on them?
The idea is that is will attract a number of players to the Sandy list each season to compete for a spot on an AFL list. It's the best shop window in the country for an unlisted player.
It's primarily to raise the standard of the whole affiliate environment.
The priority would be the assumed goodwill of them joining the club for the opportunity.

Would rather we focus our improving our own list rather than a VFL clubs.
I guess its up to weighing up how impactful a successful reserves team is to creating a positive culture throughout the squad and how much it can help the AFL team on-field

If we can get finals experience into our VFL guys and young kids, it could be that extra fraction of advantage that comes up clutch in moments throughout the AFL season when the kids eventually graduate to the AFL side and bring that experience with them

We're taking a look at Ethan Phillips, also Lachlan Blakiston (26yo ruckman who plays for East Fremantle) as per these reports.

Blakiston is exactly the sort of player Geelong grabs..and turns into Max Gawn v2.0

Where do our reserves play if we end the alignment with Sandy?
As St.Kilda reserves out of RSEA Park, of course! It should've been done years ago.

A club united at its home venue in Moorabbin, not on the windswept, postage stamp sized TBBO. Sandringham can please itself.

I used to love following the zebs, but they're unwatchable now and the alliance has harmed, rather than helped player development.

We wanted to do that but decided it cost too much.

This kid was all the rage a couple of years ago. I wonder what went on at the Dogs injury or application?

Just had a look at his VFL stats averaged 12.4 and 1 goal per game. Has played 37 games in 2 years so it wasnt injury, the Dogs obviously werent happy with him. Just read above off field issues - enough said.
Yep, he was the Second Coming when he was drafted. Half a game.

Why?
Our players.
Our coach.

Why will we have better non-listed players and be "more watchable" as a stand alone team?

Hotton was no better this season than any of the Sandy players we will be considering. If you are willing to give him a list spot moving forward than you should have no issue with Hipwell, Watson or Lowe being on the list.
