Now that we have all of that shit out of the way...

8 + F1st
for
2 + F2nd from North

OR

F1st
for
16 from GWS

What do we prefer? Move a pick for a mid-late 1st this year OR move up to pick 2 for FOS/Lalor/Smith in exchange for dropping back next year?

This one. Not only are we guaranteed one of the top mids but we get our pick of the bunch outside of Lalor most likely. Even if it's "even" there'd be a preference as to who would fit into our squad of young players best and would suit our side. The core of the squad for the next 6-10 years is taking shape (King, Nas, Windhager, Owens, Phillipou, Wilson, Henry, Caminiti, Sharman) with some decent prospects that might also make it (Collard, Keeler, Hastie, Schoenmaker, Garcia). There's enough sure things in there that we can afford to trade up to pick 2 rather than hedge our bets on 7, 8 and trading our future first for a late first round pick this year.

FOS/Draper/Smith (pick 2) + Smillie/Langford/Travaglia/Reid/Allan (Pick 7).

Then next year, have a go at a Free Agent (LDU, TDK, Brayshaw) after 3 years of going a more draft heavy approach.

He will be Restricted Free agent, they can match
They'll have midfielders coming out of their ****'s and they'll all be demanding more and more money so I don't believe they'll match.

Given the state of their list and the spread of talent available available in the top 25 of this draft, I think they'd have been better off seeing what they could get for him this year.

Finish 15/16th next year and the compo next year will be Pick 3/4 so that equates to something like 8 and 32 for LDU this year.

Would you have done it?

If they keep two and take a mid I reckon they are conceeding LDU is gone. If they take Tauru @ 2 (a huge stretch) they may fancy their chances of keeping him.

There is 0% chance of this being our best 22 with only two talls in defence.

There will be three minimum.

Love the thinking here.

Im probably more inclined to go the other way give some of the talent that could fall into the teens BUT if next year's draft is as KPP heavy a speople are saying then North's 2nd rounder could still nab us a pretty good player...

Interesting that you dropped TDK in with Brayshaw and LDU here as well. Is that based on anything or just adding him in as a high profile FA?

I doubt he'd go anywhere (unless the Cats give him the farm they allocated to Clayton Oliver) but he'd be a pretty insane pick up. Give him the #1 ruck mantle, RoMa rotates forward in the last few years of his career... Could be an inspired move if the club went down that path!

LDU will end up at the Cats. Don't ask me how, they will just get it done.
Yep, pick 17 for LDU after being forced to trade. Media bemoans North Melbourne for being unreasonable, just take the Pick he's a free agent. Geelong's best players take a 'pay-cut' to make room for LDU in the salary cap.

North will have to match the offer for LDU if they don't it will send a really bad message to their other young stars.
They have to keep the core of their team together and with the salary cap uplift money won't be a concern.
North are in a dangerous position particularly with Stephenson retiring.
Lose one more of their key group of stars and future stars and the others could fall really quickly and they will be consigned to another complete rebuild.

Just that those 3 FA's looked the best suited and best quality. I think the performance of Marshall as a forward this year in those few games with 2 rucks has indicated that he's still that tall forward we drafted and could be a massive weapon rotating through the forward line more often. The fact we sniffed around Soldo makes me think the club thinks a 2 ruck team is possible as well and Rowan isn't just a "resting ruck" there to be a big body but a genuine pairing to King.

TDK and Rowan together is no guarantee to work out (Gawn and Grundy), but Rowan has more natural forward craft and ability than either of those 2 and I think with the right pairing could see our forward line looking more dangerous and effective than it has in a long time.

King and Marshall as 2 behemoths that are still somewhat agile for their size (Rowan's work around stoppages and ability keep in it after the initial ruck contest suggests this) and can take contested marks. Owens and Sharman as the versatile forwards a bit like Membrey, can play up the ground if needed, have the capacity to fly for marks and play on a wing or as a defensive forward (Sharman) or a spell through the midfield (Owens). Henry, Higgins, Butler as the smaller forwards with varied skills: Higgins can do a bit of every (lead up, strong mark, great when ball is on deck) but a bit out there with kicking... Henry looks a livewire and similar to Butler with hitting lose ball and running past at speed, can also play up the ground. Butler more classic small forward roving role, I think Collard would be the one he comes in for if he can find the form and fitness.

I think a second ruck can work with how good Marshall is in the forward line, we just need to grab one that's ready to go and doesn't need the many years of development.
