It's almost like your side is more susceptible to injuries because of an unknown factor?

Team played an extra 3-4 weeks of footy, likewise Sydney & Collingwood who have extensive injuries.
It's no surprise going back to back is one of the toughest tasks in this sport.

Geelong had unlucky run with broken facial bones to Stanley & De Koning. Broken arm for Stengle and now Henry's got a split nut.

And it’s not necessarily age related given our injured players range in age from 18 to 33

Henry's a massive inclusion.
He's one of the best runners at the club and he while his touch will be off in the first month, he will still give much needed support to Ratugolea as Blicavs will have his hands full playing ruck most of the afternoon.

Don't think the general public appreciate just how valuable he is to our structure.

I was actually thinking about this before when someone on the cats board suggested the optus surface was to blame. Is it just list age? I dunno

Ah sorry thought you were responding to a west coast poster.

Yeah, we old. Though a lot of our injuries have been too younger players

I did a cut and paste job. Their issue is they have a mix of the really old and really young, both groups are statistically more likely to get injured. Some young players never make it due to their bodies rather than their skill / effort and it takes time to figure this out.

Ah yes, we're definitely in that boat.

Even our good injury news comes with more bad injury news

Too much injury talk regarding Geelong. Basically we are missing Paddy D & De Koning …. And now Duncan… I mean you can’t say the cats didn’t win the cup because Paddy missed a couple of games mid year… and same for SDK & Duncan… players were going to get rested anyway…
Rohan, Stanley, Boakes , O.Henry hardly locks in best 22… so I’m not buying into it!
We are missing a few as is most teams… no big deal if you’re good enough!

Cam Guthrie, reigning B&F?
Like them or not, but Stanley and Rohan are premiership players. Without Rohan, we probably would not have beaten the Pies in the QF. And Stanley played one of his best games in the GF, and there's no doubt the Stanley / Blicavs ruck team was working well

The talk about injuries is warranted because today's football is all about structures and momentum. Take out 8-9 of your first choice footballers and of course it will impact.

Do you even know the team and the roles of the players? Who's Boakes? The Power guy we tried luring to Geelong in 2015?

Genuinely looking forward to how this one plays out.

Tipped both these sides correctly last week but no idea how this one goes. I was impressed by the Dockers so I’ll stick with them but I have plenty of respect for the Cats so won’t be at all surprised if they find a way.

Don't bother arguing with the troll.

Haha not Boakes… Bowes… clearly not best 22! Guthrie’s spot was being talked about earlier in the year… hardly a lock… but okay I’ll give you that one.

Spot on.

On paper the forward line now looks good. One first choice player missing is manageable. We have to hope Stengle hits the ground running quickly though.

Likewise the defence is fine - great to get J.Henry back. A few just happened to have really poor games last week.

Tuohy's form line has been bad so bizarrely, Bowes would be an upgrade right now. But I guess we have to hope it "clicks" for him further up the ground on a wing.

Midfield is the big one. Not many teams will hold up losing their best two midfielders and primary ruckman. Geelong's midfield depth is shaky so that exacerbates things. Therefore our chances are very reliant on Blicavs, Atkins and Holmes having great games - and the likes of Bruhn and Parfitt stepping up too. Of that list probably only two played close to their potential. And the team couldn't hit the side of a barn door. Fix those two areas and we're a good chance.

Tuohy has been one of our worst players this season and I say that as one of his biggest fans over the years. He'd have been dropped or managed for Bowes by now in our full strength team. That profile of 24-25 year olds is what we need. Which is why the addition of Close, Henry and Stengle this week is pretty important.

Shall be an interesting game because on paper Geelong have the better team and still have quite a few premiership stars playing.
Interestingly, the ruck might just be their weakest link and our strongest. Darcy is a mountain and Jackson has returned to form.
With brayshaw, serong, JOM, Fyfe, and Aish, it doesn’t seem like a weak midfield either. (At least on paper).

Definitely looks like Freo will have a midfield advantage to me. Game could go either way

Just unlucky-can’t complain- we are the reigning premiers so if we get derailed this year, we will cope. We might get enough players back to figure at the end, but we might have lost too many games by then.
Agree completely
