Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

We will be missing a large amount of run if Thomas is out. Thomas, Johnson, Swan are our most important linking players / ball carriers.

I think it's a huge chance for Dids to step up. Sidebottom will obviously be moved into the midfield as will Krak.

Agree that the most obvious inclusions are Buckley, Blair and Fasolo

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

I agree in a sense but Stefan Martin has been in scintillating form and really is coming into his own as the number 1 ruckman.

And when you compare that to Woods scintillating form we could well expect a spanking (alright i'm being a bit reactive here).

On Wood he would want to start showing more than he has. He is getting a good crack at it right now. Interesting reading Malthouses comments about the ruck and how he doesn't really take into consideration hitouts as an indicator of how well a ruckman has gone. While I don't necesarily have an issue with this, Malthouse seems to set his standard pretty low when it comes to expectations from his rucks. Wood is doing nothing around the ground, he isn't winning hitouts despite showing the ability to get some pretty good hitouts to clear advantage earlier in the year. So what has he achieved? An ability to neutralise a centre bounce at best? It reminds me all too much of the McKee days where we settled for mediocre. I've been a Wood apologist for awhile now but i'm beginning to lose patience. I just hope he can prove the doubters wrong. He has the talent but seems to lack the application.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Martin is actually a bit of a worry considering what McEvoy managed to get up to this week on Wood.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Buckley should be an absolute selection for you guys this week.

History shows players who have been moved on from their clubs (especially ex dees) tend to have that extra bit of fire in their stomach when they meet up again. I was bitterly disappointed when we got rid of him, though if I remember correctly he was delisted due to bad timing, with players who would have been ahead of him in the delisting order having extra years on their contract.

I always love the QB match, not only for the fact that we seem to play well against you boys.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

I don't want to loose this match. I fear we are taking them too lightly :(

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

With the players we are going to have missing you cant imagine we will take it lightly this week.

Blair is straight back in for Swan. Buckley in for Thomas(if he gets weeks) he goes down back and say Shaw to the wing.Fasolo in for beams to play forward.

Also Dick could come in for McCarthy. I just don't know what J Mac brings to the side. He is not super quick he doesn't get a lot of the ball and as a forward he doesn't kick enough goals or tackle or set up goals. He might get a run on ball this week with players out but I don't know if he's up to it. If he goes out bring Dick in. At least he is quick kicks goals tackles(which gets him injured) but he looks like getting goals when he is in as to McCarthy not showing any danger to the opposition at all.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

INS: Blair, Buckley
OUTS: Swan (Arizona), Thomas (suspended)

IF Beams doesnt come up then Fasolo deserves his debut.... Probably as the sub (If not then bring in Dicky)

B - Maxwell Tarrant Toovey
HB - Davis Reid O'Brien
C - Shaw Pendlebury Sidebottom
HF - Didak Cloke Beams
F - Krakouer Dawes L.Brown
R - Wood Ball Wellingham
INT - Blair Buckley Goldsack
SUB - McCarthy

Still a very good and 22 and will get the job done.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

hasn't been tackling in the VFL. Mick loves him but he's on the road to a delisting, poor bugger has no confidence in his shoulders. If he gets it back, and shows more pressure in the 2's. he could still be anything.

You have two tall defenders on the bench... This won't happen. The bench spots are largely needed for rotating mids.

Either Buckley will play or Goldsack will play.

Since when are Buckley or Goldsack "tall defenders"? They are flankers.

Hasn't he kicked at least one goal in every game he's played this year. He's going alright, although it may not be enough to keep him in the team if everyone gets fit. I suspect that he will be the recipient of extra midfield time with Swan and probably Thomas and Beams being absent. I'm looking forward to seeing how he goes.

Was thinking the exact same thing????

Buckley can be used on the wing and in defence (usually on smalls)

Goldsack I suppose we can call a utility. Has played the defensive forward role and the obvious role as defender...

I see no reason why both cant be played on the same team.

Yeah, sorry, I typed that when I wasn't concentrating, and well done for picking me up on this.

What I meant was they are both tall flankers. I really can't see them both playing in the same team, especially since we have Toovey, Maxwell, Shaw, Davis, O'Brien, as well as Tarrant and Reid. That would be a very backline-heavy team.

Sure, they can both play other positions, but I would prefer a pure midfielder come in, or a pure forward (ie Dick) come in and push someone into the middle of the ground.

You need the bench to be used for rotating mids, not the 21st and 22nd best players.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Well if we're going to lose a game it'll be to Melbourne with a chunk of our middle missing - could be a danger game.

We will still win.

No doubt Thomas and Swanny are big outs but we have a few players in the line up who can slot into the midfield. Then Blairy to come in.

I am still confident... We will have the best midfielder on the ground anyway...

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Your (likely) outs in the midfield have made this a suddenly very enticing prospect. Without the hard tag, someone will need to take away the influence of Moloney and McKenzie out of the centre and around the contest. McKenzie is flying under the radar at the moment and is pivotal to us getting the ball moving forward with his attack on the footy.

I'm thinking another narrow loss as Collingwood's defence will be able to nullify our forward line which is still very much a work in progress. I can also sense Didak is likely to burst out of the blocks and have his best game yet. He likes playing against us.

Will be interesting to watch nonethelss. Should be a big crowd too.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Collingwood have started to pick up their full ground pressure recently and are starting to play 4qtr footy again. Even with some big outs this week we should have a reasonably comfortable win.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

OUT: Swan, Thomas & Beams
IN: Blair, Buckley & Fasolo

Heater/Buckley will play on a wing.

If Johno is fit I'd have him in instead of Blair, otherwise happy with that.

I can't see BJ playing, it would be a massive risk after he only lasted 15 minutes 2 weeks ago in the VFL.

He would have to get through a VFL game first before playing seniors again you would think.

It'd have to be this. So glad that Buckley has stepped up this season otherwise we'd be proverbially boned in a situation like this. Depth is looking pretty solid right now.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

would love to see Leon get some midfield time this week

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

B: Tyson Goldsack, Chris Tarrant, Leon Davis
HB: Nick Maxwell, Ben Reid, Alan Toovey
C: Heath Shaw, Alan Didak, Andrew Krakouer
HF: Steele Sidebottom, Travis Cloke, Alex Fasolo
F: Jarryd Blair, Chris Dawes, Leigh Brown
Foll: Cameron Wood, Scott Pendlebury, Luke Ball
Inter: Sharrod Wellingham, John McCarthy, Simon Buckley, Harry O'Brien (sub)

In: Blair, Fasolo, Buckley
Out: Thomas, Swan, Beams

Johnson in if he's fit, but I doubt it

One of our hundred half back flankers as the sub, Harry's turn

Didak to spend major minutes in the middle, he owes us this year

Krakouer given more time at stoppages around the ground

Fasolo to debut, don't like putting a debutant as sub, lets see what he's got early

Sidebottom, Blair and McCarthy to get more midfield minutes rotating in and out.

Agree with Fosolo not being sub - give the guy a proper debut (QB no less!)

Disagree with Harry being sub in a danger game when we're down on experience. I'd go JMac.

Re: AFL Round 12 - Collingwood v Melbourne - Prematch Selection and General Discussion

Time to get Alan Didak into your DT people. Will spend a lot of time trough the middle with A Krakouer this week (sux that we have the bye next week).
