Yep, it’s sent people to their corners, and while it’s appalling that awful accusations have been left to fester with no right of reply, it’s also very hard to see how players and families who responded to the Hawthorn review get their experiences weighed fairly, with how spectacularly the process has been botched.

Of course Gil wants a manufactured outcome that pleases nobody completely but does enough to get the story out of the way. That’s what he always wants and mostly (thanks WADA for the exception) gets.

I mostly believe those making the claims, there is absolutely some form of cultural insensitivity which has taken place. Footy and broader society is a racist place, even if folks don't intend to be. We've all done it.

I also think Russell Jackson is a reputable guy, who I have had the pleasure of dealing with him numerous times on a personal level. The personal attacks are off, and they need to stop.

Clarkson has absolutely batted away claims at the extreme end of the scale, and based on our President's defense and a few other things I've heard, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt on the serious matters. I don't feel the need to defend him, he is a big boy and can do it himself.

So ask yourself a question here. If I believe all three of these people and think they are within reason telling the truth, what is the unifying thread which has derailed all this?

Phil Egan wrote the report. The report which was leaked. The report which contains some of the more extreme elements, which probably need a higher standard of proof to prove.

The bloke has been arrested and awaiting charges for fraud, in a very similar way. It is not beyond reason here this guy has taken some people for a ride, embellished claims a little, trying to assist people in trying to write a percieved wrong. He has botched it, and now dragged everyone into this.

It's ruined a bunch of livelihoods, and as you say, isn't going to get people making claims what they need.

Good write up. Nice to see different views than ‘these ice heads are lying’ or ‘Clarkson deserves to be hanged’.

My only question is around the ‘mostly believe those making the claims’. What part of the claims don’t you believe?
