Anyone can see that Starc has shitloads of talent. Tall left armers who have a bit of zip and can swing it are a rare species... But gee he gets a great run with selectors. Even in first grade for Wests, he's only got a couple of five wicket hauls. Looking at their annual report and the MyCricket web site I'm pretty sure he has 2 first grade 5/'s.
My oft repeated statement.. Precocious young talents get ahead of performing people always at CA.

It wouldn't be a test summer without Mexicans talking up Cameron White
Wouldn't be a test summer without Sandgropers talking up S.Marsh

amidoinitrite? :p

I most certainly can. The irony was clearly lost on you. Because the very reason I used that word was that the guy is constantly talked up for his 'heart', but it is a complete misnomer. I can't think of a single match where he has personally finished off the opposition and genuinely bowled Australia to victory. It's left to somebody else every time. Which is probably unprecedented for someone who's played 60 Tests. He goes MIA pretty much every time when he's really needed - as he did yet again today.

He is incredibly overrated, including for his 'heart'.
The Siddle fans point to 'that' test in Adelaide as an example of his heart whilst completely ignoring the fact that Hilfy did just as much work but has enough tank to not huff and puff and double over.

Heart's great but perhaps he should work on reaching the physical level required from him.

Pretty easy. 8 wickets falling in a session was a long shot, especially inside 23 overs. I mean this isn't the redbacks. 4 an over is doable but the Indians weren't going at 4 an over at that stage and struggling to hit runs off of anyone but Lyon and Smith.
There were thirty seven overs to be bowled, India had two established batsman and had been going at better than four an over for most of the innings. If anything it looked like it could be a really commendable win for India at the time. You missed out man.

Sorry - but I think you'll find there have been significant periods of his Test career where CA and the media have talked him up as the 'leader', the 'spearhead' and the 'enforcer' of the attack etc etc. I remember the references well because I usually doubled over in laughter whenever I heard them.
Because that's the first time that the media have ever overhyped anyone. Particularly an Aussie battler, your typical Australian hero. Quoting Slater et al certainly strengthens your argument!

Your semi-intelligent cricket fan, and the selectors and coaching staff know his role.

Well considering I was in bed when I got home suffering from some heat stroke, I'm quite comfortable. I didn't think Australia were going to win anyway... in my head I was thinking draw because I thought India would lose a couple and shut up shop. But they decided to play like the Redbacks. Oh well it's only a game of cricket.

Cal Ferguson for the Test side!!!! :p
I really hope he is in the selectors plans. I know he has not scored near enough runs for most of his career and rightfully has been ignored for this reason, but finally in the last 12-15 months he is starting to come good, and is getting some nice scores.

One of the best techniques in Australia. Perfectly suited to test cricket.

His team getting rolled for 45 yesterday doesn't help. Can't really cop much of the blame as he was 9th man out, but still not good.

Surprised Starc has been called up.
What's the go with Jackson Bird? Would have thought in form he'd be one of the first picked for the Ashes in England.
Bird is only one game back from injury. They'll want him to get a few more under his belt before coming back into the frame.

I guess then, by your definition, people like James Pattinson are something less than "semi-intelligent" then?!

(That's one of a veritable stream of similar sets of comments from people in the inner sanctum over the years, btw - all of which destroy your argument.)

I don't know what the current panel's opinion of him is but a previous regime considered him a bit too private school for Test cricket. Cowan was lumped in this boat for a long time too.
