Starc has played some decent cricket in the past and is only 24. I'll give him a chance I reckon.

If nothing else, our attack will be a lot quicker than in Adelaide.

Marsh and Watson to carry some load in the middle-end of the day.

FFS why would you pick Starc in anything aside from a ODI?

only solace I can take from it is that with Watson and Mitch Marsh in the side he won't have to bowl 30 overs in a day and we can use him much like Johnson, short, sharp spells.

I still would have gone Hilf though

Looks like being a rain affected test with potential showers forecast for all 5 days. Days 1 and 2 so far look the worst, however the showers (60% and 90% chance for Days 1 and 2) are forecast for the afternoon/evening so we should get a few sessions in hopefully.

On paper i guess it's our weakest test team maybe for decades, still all the talk during the great era was how few spots were up for grabs and how unlucky fringe players were but this lot can't complain about that, only 4 of this team are sure picks for the ashes so players should be thinking hey india at home all i need is a some wickets or runs and i get an ashes berth.

If these blokes can't go up a gear now with what is at stake then they never will.

Hazlewood? Hilfenhaus? Abbott?

Hazelwood is already playing for
Siddle. Hilfy meh, and Abbott isn't there yet. Bollinger could be one I guess

Has Smith ever lead a side at any level whatsoever? It'd would be interesting to see his approach now that Dhoni's back.

johnson smith lyon warner.

haddin might be a sure thing even if he flops i just don't know how the selectors see his spot.

For haddin rogers watto ect it really is so simple just get one bloody decent score in the next few games and you end all the pressure and speculation about your spot in one day.

Captained NSW to a Shield win last season. Captains the Sydney Sixers too.

Heard his dad interviewed this morning and he said he has been a captain all through his career; juniors, grade and, as others have said, Shield and BBL.

Possible afternoon storms. I'll be surprised if they game is impacted at all by rain.

And it would be an amazing feel good story.

Never heard his name being mentioned for the first test, never really heard his name entertained at all.

No if he is selected this summer it would be a joke. Maybe when he has earned his selection it will be a feel good story.

Harris? Marsh?

Even if Watson and Haddin make a good score they should be looked at, performances from those 2 lately have been appalling.

Same

Johnson will be hard for them to face at the Gabba.

Probably a toss you would hate to win, it will really swing and seam tomorrow but at the same time if you get through to stumps 5 down it will be flat day 2.

really we are going with marsh an not a doolan or bailey, funny how players fall out of flavour so fast, cowan has been knocking the door down for a while ffs marsh! sigh!

be fun to see if smith bowls himself more

That's fine...but who are you picking?
With NCN injured, the next in line with the selectors would be Hilfhenhaus IMO. I would rather have picked Hilf than Starc, even though I'm pretty much over Hilfy. But our fast bowling casualty list is - as usual - quite long and Hilf is bowling well.

It should be Behrendorff. In fact he would have been a very very bold selection for this test, but I think selectors would consider him at least 12 months away at the moment. Probably fair enough too. It's easy to make a bold and risky selection on bigfooty. It's not so easy to make one when if things don't go to plan your name(s) will be spread over the papers. And if too many don't go to plan then you're out of a job. Also given Hazlewood was always first in line for a debut spot, it's a much more solid plan to go with someone with some tests behind them.

western royboy Just to clarify, you're saying that your source claimed that Whiteman or Nevill was the next in line but is not in the know any longer? If that's the case, isn't it possible that since the change in panel, Wade has risen back up in the rankings and played the ODIs for that reason? Haven't had a proper read of the thread so may have read what you're saying wrong.
