Anyone give pup any chance of batting again this game?

This innings or next? Personally I can't see him playing again this series, but my glass is half empty.

The simple answer is if it is physically possible he will. The reality is he is probably stuffed outside of coming out all taped up late in the 2nd innings because the game is hanging by a thread.

ok, so it appears we need an opener to replace Rogers at soon and a number 3 to replace Watson, and possibly a keeper

realistically, who do we replace them with

Shaun Marsh must be close to replacing Watson IMO

Well, I have, but I fail to see what that's got to do with it.

Why is it when openers have to go out and face 3 or 4 overs at the end of the day, but every other batsman needs to be protested. Bloody ridiculous. Perfect wicket, popgun bowling, perfect light ... any batsman who can't go out and face up in those conditions is a squib.
Yep. I reckon a batsman wanting a night watchman shows a real lack of confidence in their own ability

Harris + Johnson bowling on an Australian pitch in our conditions? We probably have enough runs already, even though India performed very well yesterday. Not to mention that they have to bat last.

C'mon guys, every run counts, do it for the gipper.

Oh shit, sorry , wrong tagline.

Who's the Gipper?

I swear they just showed the same shot 7 times

I'm with you. I have nothing against eith player, as a matter of fact I've been a supporter of Haddin, but watching Haddin decide he needed a night watchman walk in before him with still 8 overs to go just doesn't smack of leadership. Time to try a new keeper in the 2nd Test.
it's lucky we are playing a second rate test team
we wont be exposed
build for the future now

Especially with the Ashes coming up next year as well. Got to get our batting sorted out before then.
You'd almost consider resting Clarke and trying to get his body right for that series.

But Haddin did get out, therefore, his decision to send a nightwatchman makes sense. Had Lyon survived those last overs, we might have seen Haddin opening today's play with Smith.

The fact that Haddin had no confidence in his own ability to bat out the day, and was shown to be correct, just further proves that his time has probably past.

Smith said Pup is feeling much better this morning and that we'll hopefully see him come out to bat

I think Pup's opinion about if his fit is no longer the be all and end all. Guy clearly either has no idea about when he's actually right, or is so focused/obsessed about batting the next innings that he can't see the forest for the trees. I don't care if he's keen to bat, he shouldn't unless the doctor's say he's right to go.

i jsut don't think he has the balls to say that he isn't right. could be a pride thing

Seeing the state he was in yesterday, it's getting to the point where he needs to be taking life after cricket into consideration.

I should rephrase that: Because you've successfully captained an international cricket team at the highest level and your local club level experience far outweighs any experience Haddin has at international level. Righto.

That's my thought. He's so focused on being seen as a strong leader and never letting the side down, or at least his version of never letting the side down.

It's all well and good to try and play when you're not right, but if you go down that's letting the side "down" a hell of a lot more than putting your hand up before the game and saying you're not right. That takes balls. Ala Presti before the 2010 GF.

I reckon Clarke is ok to bat this innings. It will be a decision as to whether he should risk it for his career and life after cricket. Big decision
