Autopsy Autopsy vs WCE

I'm usually the first to spit venom about our dreadful attendances and the consistently lazy complacent lack of buy-in from our support base, but dead set for anyone that wasnt there today it felt like there were lucky to be a few hundred WC supporters there, was worse than a GWS away crowd (not used to going through a cellar dweller period the poor dears), so it really was mostly us, and considering it was 37degs, we're coming off two wooden spoons, playing the side that finished 17th with 2 wins themselves, we were crap against the Dogs in the last preseason game and had made team selections that rankled alot of people, it actually wasnt THAT bad of a crowd, also the energy and noise from our mob today is something I havent heard for 10 years. Today was seriously something to build on 👍

Final siren was something I haven’t done or felt in 2022 (interstate for Tigers weekend) 2021, 2020 and god knows when before then

The ball was rolling in a straight line and then of course lost speed and the contact with the ground saw it change directory to go OOB. Well that’s wat I saw from Level 3 so there we go
That call was ridiculous. He did not intend to kick the ball out, his intention was to keep the ball in.

That call and Shuey duckinginites later were the worst two calls in the game in a somewhat fair umpired game.

Cunners was gifted a free late that I thought wasnt there however, those above mentioned calls were a ****in joke with score board impact

Goldy is a lock - was anyway V Darcy and Jackson

Very likely he was a lock next v Freo pair, yes. The question now will be whether we want two rucks to go up against them and if so, does Free play? I think not as Comben showed enough to prove that he can compete well enough in the ruck for short stints. And let's not rule out a Greenwood encore.

Uncanny. You should change your handle to "The Nostradamus" or something similar.

Spot on Gaso. I'm right on the fence and so that was literally less than 10 metres from me. The ball took a sharp turn exactly as you said.

There were a couple of very deliberate OOBs, and at least one by North that weren't paid. I said to my father in law as that one was rolling that this will go over and they'll bloody pay the free to WCE. And that's what happened. I should change my handle to The Nostradamus or something similar. Uncanny!

LIKES

Harry Sheezel has very quickly endeared himself to the North Melbourne fans.

SHEEZEL SHINES

Harry Sheezel had never played in defence – or in the AFL – before, while 190cm midfielder Hugh Greenwood had surely never played in the ruck before. On Saturday, with coach Alastair Clarkson simply hoping to restore spirit to the struggling club, they played with the heart ‘Clarko’ had asked for. With lone ruckman Tristan Xerri injured, Greenwood, 31, supported Charlie Comben in the middle and put in efforts that saved the four points. The run-down tackle on Bailey Williams with the margin under a kick at the death was critical. Then, there’s Sheezel, who lined up behind the ball for the first time in his life, and in the first AFL game of his life. The 18-year-old became the youngest player this century to record 30 disposals on debut. Sheezel, shifted to a Nick Daicos-like halfback role in the last quarter of the practice match, is certain to score Monday’s Rising Star nomination and might already have Brownlow Medal votes. This kid started on Liam Ryan, marked the first entry of the match and played with class that plenty of seasoned footballers on Marvel Stadium could only wish for. The Roos ranked Sheezel No.1 in last year’s open draft and traded back to No.2 and No.3 knowing they would get him plus George Wardlaw. Where are the knockers now? Handy crowd on a hot day, too, with the Roos pulling more than 20,000 against a non-Victorian team. That didn’t happen last year.

At the game I thought turner was pretty good. Imo he’s a new man. Honestly thought it was the best game I’ve seen him play in a long time lol.

I didn’t enjoy bonar’s game as much. Thought his timing was off when high balls were coming in. Assume he weagles we’re trying to play through him because it felt like everything was heading in his direction.

Nerves of steel in to coaches box- I look up at our half back line at a centre bounce in Q3. We had 5 games of experience. Goater, Bergman, and Sheezel. Then having Bergman and Sheezel take kick ins when it felt weagles had taken control again fmd I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

Couldn’t work out what changed in Q3 but we couldn’t get access to deep entries inside 50 at all.

Huge win for our club today. The pressure and positive intent for the first 2 1/2 quarters was great to watch. Think we just lost our run as the game went on, very tough conditions.

Positives:

  • Sheezel oozes class and is a bona-fide jet. What a debut young man!
  • Ben10 back where he belongs, bossing in the middle.
  • LDU = BOG
  • Greenwood was a beast as a makeshift ruck.
  • Comben got through unscathed and played an important role.
  • Larkey is a deadeye.
  • Phillips got an extended run and was clean and effective with his ball use.
  • Curtis' first half.

Negatives

  • Xerri getting injured after looking the goods early.
  • Still too many long bombs into forward 50, giving McGovern/Barrass marking practice.
  • Defenders all flying for the same ball, no one staying down, allowing easy crumbing goals.
  • #12's field kicking.
  • Sleevo's pea heart efforts.
  • Defensive mismatches because we only played one KPD.

Their umpire bitching is weird. The umps were the ones to keep them in it in the first half and then they also sparked the WCE comeback.
Was actually one of the better umpired games i have seen involving us for a long time, high tackles for one were adjuducated very consistently.

Diesel had trained with Carlton for 2 years and played senior football in the Bendigo League winning the B&F twice, before he debuted with Geelong at the age of 20y 183d. Makes Sheezel's performance even more impressive.
