I'm sure everyone is thinking of Lynch's welfare first and foremost, but it doesn't negate the validity of the debate. This isn't an isolated incident, what lynch did happens every game because of the interpretation of the high contact rule - players are purposefully putting themselves in a dangerous position because they think they'll win a free.

Thankfully, initial reports seem to indicate Lynch isn't badly injured. Hopefully any players watching this still get a wake up call, as does the afl.
:thumbsu:
All teams have their players that do it, and its dangerous.

I've seen Cornes, Logan, Matty Thomas do it playing for Port. And we need to put an end to it.

AFL's fault if Lynch is injured. They continue to reward duckers and look what can happen.
Been saying it for years it will take a broken neck before anything is done ... it did happen with that Casey Tutungi in the VFL and they were supposed to crack down on that this year but the interpretation of rules have changed massively from week to week . Something needs to be done !

No excuses for Brizzle to fold like a deck of cards, considering Adelaide are two men down. Very disappointing effort for a young team i thought had shown much improvement and maturity in the last 8 weeks

Even with two players down I dont think Adelaide can lose this now...The Lions are just flat and listless and turning it over like a McDonalds Burger flipper.

Just how hot is it anyway? Dwayne keeps crapping on about the harsh conditions so I'm guessing 23-24? The AFL site reckons 21 but surely that isn't "hot".

What a disgusting effort, Adelaide just getting a free walk into the 8.

I know they're kids and have inconsistency issues etc but that's not AFL standard.

One final thing- IMO there is absolutely no one to blame for that injury other than Tom Lynch.
It's not unlucky, it's just plain stupid.

Why would you ever deliberately lower your head into an oncoming hip?

Just stupid. Risk becoming permanently disabled for a free kick- yep, totes worth it..

Before the PC police jump on me, I genuinely hope he is ok. But it doesn't make it any less stupid.
Pretty poor form. What does it matter, anyway? What's your comment trying to achieve?

Current temp is 23c. Would be warmer in the sun. You'd thing it would suit Brissie more.

You clearly didn't watch it closely enough then if you think he "stood up" (which he didn't have the time to do). He was hunched over with the ball, at waist height of his oncoming opponent, and had a split second decision to make. That decision was to protect himself. He couldn't do much else. Just a tragic footy accident.

No doubt they will replay it over the HT break, I suggest you watch it again. He clearly ducks back into the oncoming player.

My question to you is would you rather get knocked out not protecting yourself or a broken neck protecting yourself.

How is my comment "poor form"? Clearly trying to "achieve" putting forward the argument that players who elect to duck to draw free kicks are a product of the afl/umpires rewarding of players lowering their heads.

But not all players do it, with some doing it far more often than others..

It's currently a top of 23.2c and "apparent" is 23c..

Surely coaches can't cry over that.

Really?

Commentators seem to be making out likes its 30C.....

23C is all good, unless its really humid. Then that would suck.

Or if you lose 2 players to injury in the first half. That would suck too

That would ex-VFL player Casey Tutungi in a GFL game.

There shouldn't have been a free kick, but the umpire was on the wrong side from the looks of the replay. Laying into the player is unnecessary when ducking occurs ten times every quarter of every match. Just not a very good post, sorry.
