The AFL are apparently all about safety yet they bring this upon themselves by rewarding flogs like Pendlebury and Selwood with free kicks by dropping their heads into tackles, someone was always going to get hurt eventually.
Diff between Pendles and Selwood, is that Selwood jokes about the amount of high free kicks he gets. See 'the Grill'

Correct.

AFL pays frees for high contact because it is afraid of these injuries. If the player that's been injured initiated it then they need to be punished also. Don't just ignore high tackles when the umpires think you've ducked, actually pay frees against the player initiating it. Players need to be protected from themselves and the only consequences they understand is free kicks.

Well I think concussion is punishment.

All you people saying its his own fault are despicable. It was blindingly obvious he had no time to straighten up after he collected the ball, he was trying to brace himself for the impact, not win a free. But no, lets just all point at him and say he got what he deserved.
This is not a Port/Crows thing, but seriously bro, look at the slo mo. no doubt about it, he plowed into the brissy player. Hope he's ok, but the umpires need to protect the players by sending a message that they won't reward those as free kicks. If you watched the Port Game last night, Buddy got done htb by ducking into a Port player. Thats how it should be done.

Take your blinkers off. Not even worth trying to argue he didn't duck. Got ball, stood up, saw oncoming player, lowered and ducked head.

Exactly what the afl said they would stop rewarding, but instead have encouraged via free kicks

You clearly didn't watch it closely enough then if you think he "stood up" (which he didn't have the time to do). He was hunched over with the ball, at waist height of his oncoming opponent, and had a split second decision to make. That decision was to protect himself. He couldn't do much else. Just a tragic footy accident.
