Played well for 2 quarters badly for 1. Did enough but not exactly convincing. Parfitt continues his good form. Stengle getting some form back. Jack Henry had another game he'd like to forget. He got easily pushed aside multiple times giving up goals. Another time he just wrestled with his opponent leaving another Hawthorn player to take an uncontested mark right in front of him. Then he looked around at other players as though there was nothing he could do. Really poor effort.

Ginnivan is an embarrassment.

The guy legit looks to milk a free every single time he is in a contest.

To be honest, most of the Hawks were turning head on and looking for frees.

I can not believe this isn’t coached into them, it just was happening way too much.

The commentary about it isn't helping him either. He has embarrassed the umpires in the past and the benefit of the doubt will go against him until such time as the umpires will not be embarrassed by it anymore.

Time has to heal their wounds

You can see head into arms as a tactic across the whole team when the rain set in. Good that the umpires were not buying what they were selling. I think Mitchell just made the call that with the head being sacrosanct umpires would be hot on it. They were hot on it. Hot on not rewarding players for endangering their own heads.

Ginnivan does it to his own detriment. He'd be a better player if his first instinct was to free his arms and fire off a handpass rather than focusing solely on diving at a sideways angle, throwing his head back and raising his arm. Numerous occasions he could have dished off to a teammate and potentially set up a score. Ah well, he'll be the talk of the media all week as you could hear the narrative being set during the game so I guess that's what's most important to him.
Well said. Incredible it hasn't been coached out of him yet. Extremely selfish play.

Just glad we got the job done for Hawk.

Thought there were really disappointing periods of that game where the team and several individuals didn’t do what was required. Just needed 10 minutes of intense footy in the 2nd quarter to put the game out of reach and make it an easy kill.
I feel like the difference in periods where SDK was rucking versus Conway were glaring.

Conway huge and SDK not at all a ruckman

Game was a bit meh but im glad we gave hawk a win.
Our good patches were really good our bad patches our midfield got owned and defence didnt handle it well.

Some postives i liked were
Bruhn was really good when its hot his clearancr work is what we need and hes developing more class away from the stoppage. Just needs to keep building the tank.
Dempsey was very impressive and is looking like hes here to stay. Interesting to see him play wing more-whether thats to solve our fwd line squeeze i dont know but he looks good as a link player.
I was very happy with clark (albeit he probably gets rested next week) and stengle looks like finding his old form.

Conway still clearly doesnt have the tank to be a full year first ruck (and thats a problem for us) but some of his ruckwork and skills is really promising.
I liked parfitt and kudos to him because i thought it was done. Its still a problem because as i said earlier in the week we still have too many similar mids and in particular parf and atkins are very similar..im not sure they can both fit together (and i doubt atkins is dropped)but we will see.

Negatives were sdk still looks very out of sorts, at times close was lazy and needs to lift or get dropped. Mullin was ok and we probably cant judge him until hes had 30 games but i dont see it.
We will need to rotate players given the 5 day break i wouldnt be surprised to see 4 or 5 changes again next week.

I would like to take a moment to acknowledge that Brandon Parfitt has absolutely proved me wrong in the past two weeks. He has been superb with his attack on the ball and tackling and influenced both games in ways I didn’t know he was still capable. Bravo to him and I hope he keeps it up. Makes us stronger.

I think he's found his niche as a tough-tackling in the phonebox type. We kind of miscast him early on in his career as a forward of the ball footballer.

He is but the problem is that is atkins role. Its no coincidence atkins rise to a midfielder in 22 is what pushed parf out. And im not sure either of them can play any other position so we will see how the coaches handle it.

I think next year is when we'll truly be a strong flag chance but who know what could happen in 2024?

Good to be pumping games into the young blokes in any case.

All hail Coach-For-Life!
bow down all hail GIF by The Academy Awards
Why 25? Hawk and Danger and Duncan another year closer to the end.. has to be 24. Why not btb then? I think if we win it this year, we will see multiple retirements(well, at least 3)

Our good patches were really good our bad patches our midfield got owned and defence didnt handle it well.
This is my concern for next week against the doggies, possibly the best midfield in the game, if we slack off against them we will get destroyed.

Him and Atkins. Problem is playing them both in the same team as they're so similar.
We have had multiple similar mids before, with success...Bartel, Corey, Kelly, Ling, Rooke...
