Dangerfield, Bruhn and Bowes are probably our best 3 midfielders at this stage. Our B cast is not a very good one.
It's probably true and it shows how bad our midfield crop is.

Sadly, I think our A class is B class and our B class is D class :(

Danger... almost the Goat but old, injured half the time and almost finished.
Bruhn... A kid who has got in the coaches votes once in his career.
Bowes... A guy that was playing VFL at the Suns and half the people on here didn't even think he was B22.

I agree... these are our current best mids... even ahead of Blitz, Guthrie & Atkins atm (def ahead of Parf and Clark).

And all those 3 guys didn't play tonight (ridiculous Bowes didn't IMO) + we have a guy that can't beat an egg in the ruck.

Ahhh my hopes of competing are fading.

Dare I say it... Is it "tank time"? Probs not.

Apart from wanting Heeney to win the Brownlow, I'm not sure why I'm being alerted to a thread to watch Sydney gloat over thrashing Freo. Better things to do with my time, like commiserating here.

Yeah, I got randomly signed up to that thread too. Very strange.

We need to recruit a 30 possession midfielder. They don't need to be damaging. They don't need to have elite speed or pressure. I just want 30 boring vanilla possessions. I've been gaslighting myself into believing our midfield situation is workable but it isn't.

I'm out of patience with SDK.

Horrible effort, played some of the worst football I've ever seen and only lose by 6 points. Talk about pissing away what should have been a regulation win.

It's why it was important to bank the early wins because performances like this will be inevitable but it is hard for me to accept how poor that first half was and how different we were in the second half. Just don't get it.

Also, we're 7-2 and have lost games by a collective few kicks.

Plenty of teams would kill to have had the start we have.
3 games in a row our opposition have absolutely exploited the gigantic weakness this team has and if Carlton weren't so insipid at kicking we would ave gotten smashed.

Tonight Port put the cue in the rack but the damage was done.

Teams with a half decent midfield have now seen we are absolutely gettable in the centre.

The MC and coaches have their work cut out for them. Better we put up this sort of pathetic performance now rather than during finals.

And for any supporter who doesnt know , Dangerfield has carried Geelong for years , only need to go back to the flag winning year of 22 , opening game of the season , Ess at the MCG , the 1st qtr and a bit playing in the Centre , he by himself destroyed Ess , ripped them to pieces , take him out of the side and Geel are no where near as good
He is still our barometer.

The only mid we have that can destroy other midfield and be the difference.

Sadly he is just about done and now injury prone :(

If Danger has a game where he goes fully Danger mode in the middle... I feel we can beat anyone.

I guess that's what I'll hang my hat on heading towards the finals later in the year.

I hope tank is a euphemism for the way bailey smith hits a contest 🙏

Stanley's consistency is becoming more of an issue. Getting subbed before half time and our improvement thereafter shows that.

That said, the pace and strength of Mullin might just have been what was needed in the centre given the unusually low output from the mids.

Cats a bit stiff to have the goal called back, but that's footy.

Not a "bad" loss - it'll take the spotlight off us and add pressure to Port.
Whats with the jumping too early in the centre bounce all the ****ing time? Other guys kept doing it too.

Resting Bowes was utterly stupid and totally arrogant

Made my view very clear on Parfitt over the years , thats why i was dissappointed neither Mannagh or Hardie were picked - hard to know if there is more upside in those 2 players because he wont pick them

Cats keep clocking up the losses , some posters might have a change of tune re some players talent and ability levels
Yep, agreed about Danger- as soon as we heard he has a 6 weeker, it makes it very tough to see the next win- certainly unlikely in May. Without him this year, I see us with 2 less of those 7 wins as well.

Mannagh is not a winger. He's too small and he doesn't have the aerobic capacity.
Go watch the vfl grand final and tell me he doesnt have the capacity.

We need to try something and take a risk because our MF lacks breakway speed besides bruhn its one paced and not working.

Watching the Adam Cooney Show (Armchair Experts) and they showed the tunnelling incident where Rioli took Zuthrie's legs out from under him and copped the 100 metre penalty. Rioli wouldn't leave him alone and then Cam 'the Other' Guthrie saunters up and gives Rioli an absolute earful.

Wish I could lip-read!

Prepare for some blow back for not taking Jezza off after that head knock.

The club should be fined for that. He copped two rapid head knocks, both of them quite serious. He's a husband and father and it's only a game of footy. Got the priorities wrong there - it did not set a good example.

Can tell we had a loss tonight - already up to 14 pages & the match finished a little over an hour ago

No one ever likes losing, and watching how poorly we played in the first half versus what we were able to do in the second half only makes it more frustrating, and ultimately you start with the "what-ifs"

BUT the two matches played tonight though really put things into perspective - we lost a game of footy. Our #5, & a good number of those playing in Perth wearing purple lost a mate in the last 24 hours

In past years we've seen the pre-match tribute when one of our club greats has died; couldn't imagine what it was like for the Fremantle players tonight

Losing sucks, but there's so many bigger things in life

He can't get the tap to advantage so he tries to take the other ruck away first. It's smart for a guy playing at a disadvantage I think.

The main problem is that for years we've had a midfield that can read oppo taps and we've not been disadvantaged by it. Now? Not so much.

Jeez it hits when players in the huddle played with McCarthy

We thought Mannagh would come in to offer a bit of dash and evasiveness a bit further up the ground didn't we?

It makes sense to me... He has those attributes.

But for some reason unknown to me, we are playing him as an inside 50, forward pocket in the VFL.

I don't get it.

I'd be happy to see both Managh + Mullin pushing midfield minutes in the VFL and then AFL if shown good enough.
