I'm not advocating the idea that we'll go 8-1 :p

Anyway, hard to stay focused on a game against Melbourne. Like Ian Dargle said, effectively a pre-season game in that winning means nothing beyond banking the points, but you still have the same chance for injury/suspension.

If Melbourne had beat the Saints, then a loss here would at least get handwaved as Roos magic, but after Rnd 1, it's kind of a no-win proposition.

For the 4-0, 5-0 and 8-1 brigade, given last year, how about we just focus on next week for the first month or two?

We're just focusing on next week and going out and giving 110% and leaving it all on the field, because a week's a long time in footy. :D

Well yes, I'm aware of the cliches ..

But people seriously posting that based on one game we should be 4-0 or 5-0 or 8-1 are nuts. And they only have to look at last season where similar "we should be..." posts abounded...

We could be 22-0, we could be 5-0, we could be 1-4 ... what we "should" be depends entirely on how good we are and for this group coming off 13th and with a new coach we have no idea how good we are as yet ... so we should be 1-0 and we should be favourites this week - everything else is about as useful as suggesting what our team will look like in 2016 ...

While we speak of all things numerical - aren't half of the people in the world below median? :D

They like us playing Melb and Collingwood at the G, Love going there but would rather watch other teams. I forgot about Hutchings. Id bring him in for Shuey as the sub and play Sheed like the masses are saying

Hutchings hasn't played for about 3 weeks though right?

If so, I'd reckon a WAFL game might be required first.

And when forced to defend in space he is of no more value than a witches hat... Was exposed a number of times and just has no agility at all...

It was an interesting game from Matt. He had a good patch in the second but overall he was more link player than his usual in and under self and his disposal by foot was noticeably poor ... He is also a liability in general link play given his lack of pace almost always requires a stop and cut back which breaks up flow ...

He wasn't awful and I'm trying to be more open minded... As a platoon mid he has some use but he remains a limited footballer with very obvious flaws and I'm not sure we'd have missed him much if he was replaced by a Hutchings or even a bloke like Tunbridge ...

Those who state he was "superb" or played "the best game of his career" are having a laugh, surely ...

The problem is, this happens every year. He beats up on weak or under-performing midfielders, and everyone is back on the Priddis-train…and then, year after year, he fails to match it with the best mids in the biggest games and every one gets a reality check and realises he's average…until they forget about it again come the new season. It was a fairly standard outing for him, an okay game against poor opposition…but his flaws are still so noticeable…being at the game, you notice his defensive liability so much more. And he regularly chooses a lesser option when dishing off from congestion because he doesn't have the dynamic ability of the best inside mids to put guys in space or better positions, like Kerr was able to do. Of course you know all this, but it's frustrating year after year. It is nice having NN back, because he's far more variable in where and who he taps the ball to around stoppages..whereas Cox and Sinclair are both still way too Priddis centric, at the expense of better options sometimes.

Hutchings is listed as test on the injury list. Needs to come back through east Perth to prove his fitness. Shuey shouldn't be playing either if he has a calf niggle and can't be trusted to run out a full game

Based on last weeks games we should win our next two games but we really should just be focused on this week

Melbourne is going to be a slog. Roos will push all his numbers back to restrict our ball movement forward and strangle our forward 50

I think we will win as they don't have the forwards to kick a winning score but goals won't come easy and our scoring shots will be from congestion or out wide. Don't be surprised to see a score line of 12.18 or thereabouts

Suggesting we will even get close to Geelong on their home patch is horribly premature

Regardless of the rest of what you've said I think this is really inaccurate. In fact when we are getting beaten badly Priddis is often one of our only players who is effective. He always leaves everything out on the field and at times has been the only mid capable of consistently winning his own ball. Our younger midfielders, who undoubtedly have more upside, are the ones who have often struggled in against top opposition.

Yeah, nah. He failed to stand up in the finals, and he regularly gets outshone by genuine A-Grade inside mids.

Probably because he earned it over the preseason. And who would you play as a crumbing forward ahead of him?

I am not doubting his attitude towards training and Im sure with that he has earnt his place. I will retract my "team over a few other blokes" part of the statement. What I would like is a player with his attitude who is more sure with the ball in hand and a little more capable around goals. Unfortunately the bloke who may of been that player is sitting in a cell at the moment.

Does "Crumbing forward" exist anymore?

EDIT - Actually Nicoski would be perfect :/ can we make another Nico please?

I remember when GWS beat the Swans like it was only last week. I certainly won't be thinking we are certainties against the Dees.

Do you actually think anything we suggest on here impacts real life events?
