This covid business should keep simmo safe for another year and allow him more time to work on his game plan with no expectations of Ws
I'm looking forward to seeing how this all plays out .wish we'd grabbed keitel tho
Ive always like the drafting side of things and weve got a heap of new faces.
Just have fun with it. I'm sure the players will be

Gee even garry lyon has come onto our side.

That’s grim when Garry Lyon is the sane one. Nice cop that if this was Carlton they’d be squealing, we’ll just accept that and move on thanks gents.

At some point we may actually run out of the official top ups for this game.

Is Tom Swift still living in Melbourne these days? Still keeping fairly fit?

Asking for absolutely no reason at all.

Warning: radical idea ahead
Okay even without the Covid protocols we were almost certain of not being in the GF. Now it's even less likely.

So let's get into the left field. We completely forget about 2022 and solely focus on 2023. We give our great players a light year given most are getting on a bit and just play every fringe player. Why burn out our ageing champs in a meaningless year?

For example, rest NN for the year. Then by years end we know who out of BWilliams, Jamieson and Strdnica will be our no 2 ruck next year. JK rests for the year as does Hurn (or they retire). Yeo etc take a few months off to be 100%. And the other champs play say 10 games for the season just to keep some touch and to mentor the kids. Sure we end up getting belted week in week out (and so get good draft picks) but by the start of next year we have an excellent idea of whether HEdwards, LEdwards, Trew, XON, West, Naish, Joyce, Langdon, Petro etc etc etc are really up to it. And hopefully give our champs a bit more spring in their step.

I can hear the cavalry coming - full of criticism. But, supporters easily accept their team won't be in the GF when they are 'rebuilding'. My idea is just to take this one big step further. Is there any rule that says we have to play our best available 22 each week? I can't imagine the AFL saying you must select e.g. NN.

Unlike supporters of some (lesser) clubs I only want to win GFs. Let's be a bit creative about this.

Conceptually - yes. Just not yet.

Need to see how the season evolves (halfway mark?) as other teams may be similarly affected which may work to our advantage later in the year. At some stage we really need to see what our next tier looks like.

The odd game here and there doesn’t allow us, or the player, to get a good look during the heat of a game.

I don't really understand the reluctance to move games around this year, the year that the integrity of the comp is going to be most effected out of the Covid years?

Any cut off would of course be arbitrary, but surely 12 would cut it.

It's all very funny of course, but I think if we didn't already have an injury crisis and our expectations weren't so low, we'd all be a lot less cool with this farce.

I've rounded up a few of the boys. Turnball & Matera been playing AFL 9's recently so they're automatic. Jaxon Crabb is as fit as f**k so he's in. Kasey Green is just itching to play in a match where he can come on as a sub although he's not sure exactly which team he should kick to. But I've seen him kick in his prime & he wasn't that good then so nothing's really changed really.
I'm ok to line up at FF although I'm not confident I can kick the distance if I'm not in the goal square.
But shit you know - last man standing & all that stuff

Not that it's a surprise, but Simmo says there's now 13 players unavailable due to covid

Also gave a good whack at Caro which was nice to hear

That's a belter of an interview

Don't worry. The ball isn't going to get that far forward anyway.

This has become so bad it's become funny.

I'm going to watch this match just to listen to the commentators struggle to name players in real time in the call. I can see them wimping out and using the generic 'West Coast' name for about half the team.

Final team won’t be named for another 10 mins or so but I’ve been told Jackson Nelson, Jamaine Jones, Andrew Gaff, Shannon Hurn, Jeremy McGovern, Luke Foley, Willie Rioli, Josh Kennedy, Patrick Naish, Tim Kelly, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Tom Barrass, Hugh Dixon, Zac Langdon, Jack Petruccelle, Josh Rotham, Jake Waterman, Brady Hough, Nic Naitanui, Bailey Williams, Harry Edwards, Xavier O’Neill are all unavailable

Beau Waters super fit, doing Hawaii Ironman and so on. Get him in.

His shoulder is so ****ed he probably can’t lift his arm, but what does that matter? The show must go on.

Troy Wilson is probably still built like Thor even at 50. Get him in.

Admittedly I was being pretty hard core - and as suggested that could constitute 'tanking'. But we go under the radar a bit in the important part of the AFL (Melbourne) and not too many lazy Melbourne journos are gonna be worried if we're doing terribly. So we just make sure our 'injuries' to star players or our 'Covid protocols' last as long as possible? Maybe JK and Hurn retire too.
Gee if you got some of Essendon's dodgy staff from years past we could really make hay with the Covid protocols. "Oh NN has just got another negative test - damn!" etc
And I'm happy for it to start NOW as we really aren't going to get anywhere near a GF this year (let's be a little realistic).
