Am i the only one who thinks Nicnat losing a few KG's would put less strain on his body and extend his career?

Cheers

Sydney are a hard bruising team and I can see the need to rest Hough. Had a great start but unless he plays on the wing, I think we stick with the 7 defenders as below
Have read a lot of strange takes on Sydney before, but "hard bruising team" isn't even close.

The current side is too young to have that impact. Only real bruising impact would come from Parker; JPK is cooked and the rest of the team prefer high disposal efficiency keepings off vs a Footscray style slogfest.

He won't lose anything if he's not instructed to by the club.

Be nice if he took it upon himself, like many other players do to extend their careers, but for me it should be the club putting it's foot down.

Why would he? He's paid handsomely regardless, he's got zero competition for his spot in the side. If he signs on again and only plays 5 games that season he'll still well and truly make bank. Every year is just setting himself up for retirement post football.

A lot of assumptions here that he needs to lose some kilos, and that either the club should be telling him to or he should be doing it off his own bat.

He’s come back from two knee recons, and turned in two AA and Club Champion seasons.

Is it just possible he knows his own body better than random blokes in the stands?

Where is Ramsden when you need him? 😉

On a more serious note this now is a season for opportunities and the NN situation is now a time when it’s over to Bailey Williams and Luke Strnadica….. ok show us what you have got….. are either of you keepers or are you a trade / replace and delist ?

Back up …….. happy with what I have seen from Dixon thus far, he competes and does the team things that will make him a role player.

Season 2022 should now be all about list assessment/ player development/ some positional experimentation.

Let’s cut to the chase and drop all the bullshit optimistic stuff from the Club about being finals bound.

NN going down is a the final straw to ensure no more “let’s just quality for finals mantra” and be focused on going forward post 2022.

It’s actually great opportunity to kickstart our rebuild.

Having a brace on your knee and being on crutches for an extended period is unlikely to be conducive to weight loss, I’d have thought.

Absolute bullshit.

His issue is clearly diet related, you don't end up with a gut and the puffiness in his face just because you have bad knees.

Stop making excuses for him.

Plenty of work you can do both in the gym and in the kitchen to keep yourself in shape, I've rehabbed an ACL myself from footy and it's a matter of discipline.

He's a gun and one of my all time favourite Eagles but his conditioning over the last few years is that of a park footballer.

He owes it to himself to treat his body right and maximise what time he has left in the game as he's already been robbed of so much.

Well.... playing devils advokent

He's legit had a career riddled with injuries. Majority being when he started adding on the weight to his frame.

This is his THIRD serious knee injury (possibly more, off the top of my head).

Perhaps letting him manage it because he "knows his body" isn't the way?

Perhaps it's time to try something different? Never has there been a pre season (that we're aware of) where he's come back and lost some kegs. Never a puff piece from Stocks saying how he's transformed his body, or smashed PB's, or slimmed down to extend his career, or trying to improve his fitness so he can run out games more to compete with the best etc etc etc. We don't get that stuff with him. His fitness is a black hole, never spoken about at the club.

Let's not pretend the past 2 seasons never happened. He's absolutely been our best player, and in career best form. Take nothing away from that.

Not only has he been in career best form over that time, he’s been durable. He’d played 42 of a possible 44 games up to last week. Missed one game this year with Covid and was managed for one game late in 2020 when we had 5 games in basically three weeks.

But yeah, everyone here with their advanced degrees in sports science from Couch University should be telling him what to do with his body.

Yup, good opportunity to work off the spare tyre!
Not fussed about him being out, get in shape and be back for the bizness end...
If doing a preseason didnt help him lose weight sitting on his arse wont

I'd say Nic not having the aerobic capacity to run for 90% of a game is more likely than because he's carrying a couple of extra kegs.
I'm sure if the club thought it was possible for him to lose weight and hence run around all day they would of done it.
