I honestly think if we play with the same intensity and pressure as the hawks game we will not just come close, we will win. We suffocated the hawks, for the vast majority of the game, and probably should've won by more.

The only thing i didn't like about the Hawks game was how we finished, the last 4 or 5 minutes seemed like an eternity and we were just hanging on. Sicily getting a free run and jump at the ball inside 50 with a minute to go was a massive fail for a defence that held up well all night.

I thought after the JHF goal that we would just go on from it and win by 4 or 5 goals, but a touched goal gave the Hawks a sniff just like the 2 dangerous tackles in the 2nd and after that Sicily goal we shit ourselves a bit. Gave me a lot of 2017 EF vibes where we got out to a decent lead in extra time and then just completely sh!t the bed despite dominating for most of the night.

That's funny, that 2017 final was in my head in those last few minutes too. When Sicily marked I was like here we go, except this time I'd just accepted it was the end of Ken, rather than knowing we had just signed him for 4 years.

You'd think the pressure and intensity will be there.

They got a reminder only 2 weeks ago what happens in a final when it's not there, and those that played in the 2021 prelim will remember what happens when you start a prelim half asleep.

Plus this is a club that hasn't played in a GF for 17 years and won a GF for 20 years, and this is there 4th prelim attempt in 10 years. What more reason do they need to attack this contest with absolutely everything they've got?

I'm just a supporter but if given the chance i would seriously run through any Sydney c*nt that stood in my path in order to get to this GF, i'd probably end up Ko'd but my effort wouldn't be questioned.

All we ask for is for them to give this contest everything they've got, 100% full pelt intensity, if we still come up short so be it but i'm optimistic that our best pressure footy is going to cause them some serious grief.

My concern is that despite all the above they still don't turn up with 100% effort and intensity. And we embarrass ourselves on the big stage yet again.

when sicily was lining up it was all i was thinking about, another Shuey like disaster.

The relief when he missed was short lived though and not at all celebrated because we still had to navigate our way through a minute of footy and gave them another couple of chances.

It was a horrible last couple of minutes for us on what was otherwise a brilliant night of footy.

Actually it was that final, and the Collingwood 2023 home game stuck in my head as well. We played well for the majority of that night but couldn't put them away before Elliot's late goal sunk us.

Every swans fan I have interacted with has been extremely confident about a win on Friday.

I have mixed emotions. Friday is going to be an entertaining night regardless.

Does having the highest average speed in attack recorded in the Hawthorn game make him so so slow?

Because that is what F Evans did.

Evans, 9.6 km/hr

Interestingly, Lorenz is next at 9.2, followed by Narkle and Mead.

Then comes Maginness from Hawthorn.

Maginnesd also covered the most distance in the game, and was second highest in total sprints. Mmmmm.

Sweet chasing Chol 47.3 km/h

Agreed. I was thinking I am going to be more pissed off about dropping this game that the game the week before.

They've made a real conscious effort to reduce the pressure of the entire footy department this week internally. I have no idea why they're not instead embracing the pressure.

If you don't want pressure as a footballer, retire and go stack shelves at Coles and Woolies instead.
As a thought process, that is utterly ridiculous. The pressure will be immense. To pretend it doesn't exist is negligent.

I don't necessarily think Ken's reference to 'a bit of luck' is really out of line. You can pick any game of the season that has been won or lost by under a goal and luck has played a part. Mitch intercepting the ball with his head on Friday night, Sicily hitting the post, either one goes the other way and we probably lose. But, as the old saying goes, the harder you work, the luckier you get.

You're right wrt luck being a part of any game

But fcuking don't blurt it out in a presser 2 days before the biggest game you've ever figureheaded over

Dullard

Eddie claiming Port prefer the away prelim probably took him all of 15 seconds to come up with.

They've lost 2 home prelims recently, so they can't get it done there. Plus in their last 2 finals, Port got belted as the favourite and then won when given almost no chance.

That's probably the extent of his inside knowledge, but it's a fair enough assumption.

They can't win a prelim as favourites at home - let's see what they can do against heavy favourites away, against a team they match up very well on.
