It may come down to whether we get the cohesive version of Bergman, Aliir and Zerk-Thatcher or the version where Aliir goes back with the flight and takes out the other two leaving 3 swans players to raffle the ball on deck.

Changes from Sydney's team since last time we played ...

IN - Rampe, Melican, Amartey, Papley, Campbell, McInerney
out - Wicks, Corey Warner, Mills, Ladhams, Francis, Adams

So they're fielding a stronger team on paper this time around. Papley is the one that really jumps off the page straight away as being a big concern that we didn't have to deal with last time.

The game last time was won in the middle - the midfield absolutely pantsed Sydney.

The key to stopping Papley is to reduce his supply and also to reduce the quality of supply - ie slow Sydney down off half back, don't let the run through the corridor, get numbers behind the ball to create contests as opposed to making it a foot race with a high defensive line etc.

If the midfield can stop Sydney at the source, they'll have a red hot crack at getting to a Grand Final.

Dont underestimate campbell

At the same Amartey/McLean/McDonald all have possibilities to play inatimate carbon rode games. Hopefully they do it on Friday

Everyone has a tale to tell. Here's mine.

2014 one of my sons and I went to every away game either driving to Melbourne or on the Virgin flights with the team. Our last road trip to Melbourne for that prelim he was on his P's racking up the country hours for the logbook.

Although it ended in tears the memories of that year and the dad-son camaraderie built up with a teenage boy who is now a young man cannot be underestimated.

Ten years later we're both desperately hoping we make it to the Granny to do it one more time. But history has taught me to keep it bottled.

No one is expecting us to do it. So maybe, just maybe, we will.

That is all.
Arh those-were-the-days-my-friend where I watched that prelim in the IBM corporate box and was the only Port support present. It was directly over the behind post where Chad kicked that freakish goal in the last quarter where the Hawks supporter were shitting themselves in the last five minutes.

The end of 2014 was a great time to be a Port supporter, I can but dream ten-years- after, it will be just as exciting.

Was super confident until I saw Dixon in.
Absolutely no reason to put him in on a small ground, unless he's capable of running all day up around HF leaving the 50 open for Rioli. His opponent will just run off him
Normally would agree re Dixon but his inclusion definitely stretches their defence. Ratugolea competing on the wing and Dixon standing top of the goal square to block Georgie's defender from following him on a strong lead. Trust in DBJ and Rioli to do the ground work and chase the ball running out our F50

In theory it's always sounded good not sure though. He just looks done.

SCG is shorter and wider than the Adelaide oval, it should suit Dixon who mere presence stretched their defence.
And Riolie is even better at Dixons feet

Dixon merely taking their bigger defender away from Georgie is his work half done. He's a wounded bull, you can't turn your back on him otherwise he may actually kick 3 goals. He could also do f all which we're all more aware of, but Hawthorn had stuff all big defenders to bother Georgie whereas Sydney have a decent defence this time compared to R21

That Curtis deboy is a real problem. Gifted goals to Hawks to get them back in it and gifted GWS at least 3 goals. Follows the AFL HQ script.

Wouldn’t be tackling Papley or Rioli anywhere near high or he’ll pay them.

Should be a cracker tomorrow night.
Depends on who the AFL want to win... Us 🤔 or your boys 🤷‍♀️

Dixon & Burton getting put through their paces, with Frankie not even in the picture he’s that slow.

I come in peace. Good luck for tomorrow, hope it is another cracking finals game at the SCG.

The only swans player out since last we played you guys who has not been omitted is Mills, and while his leadership will be missed, he hasn’t been shooting the lights out with his play. So hopefully we can put up a better performance than last time (which shouldn’t be too hard!).

Rampe and Milican are both big ins for our defence. Hopefully we won’t leak goals like a sieve like last time.

Agree that Papley is the biggest danger player from a attacking perspective. Campbell had a great game as sub against GWS, and so could potentially be dangerous again. McInerney is coming back from injury and was very poor against GWS - my guess is he has an another nothing game, with about a 10% chance of him putting in a freak performance.

Seems you can take the player out of Sydney but not the Sydney out of the player - what you described is somewhat of a Swans speciality.

You haven’t been paying enough attention. Sometimes it is the inanimate carbon rod makes all the difference and is the hero of the day.

And with those two pearls of wisdom I’ll yourselves to it. Enjoy the game. SCG finals have a tendency of being very exciting (more so than our poor hearts can handle sometimes).

This is the theory but in reality I have never seen Dixon show a willingness to sacrifice his game by taking himself and his defender away from the play. He doesn’t seem capable of understanding he is no longer the big dog.
