M Crouch holds his own physically.

Sloane tough and strong.

Greenwood getting it done.

B Crouch is certainly big and strong enough...just so variable with effort

There also needs to be room for one dynamic, release player also (I'd like Cameron).

These guys are big enough...but in the end it's 'the size of the fight in the tiger'

Went to the game today. Paid special attention to all of the guys pushing for selection. My observations:

Doedee - had an absolute mare. No chance of being called up this week based on that, regardless of Lever's status.

Cheney - terrible. Looked very sluggish and borderline unfit to be honest. I know he's always been a tank but I'd suggest he's currently overweight. If Lever is out, I suspect Otten may go back and we'll bring in a mid / fwd type.

Menzel - embarrassing. 3 kicks for the day, including 0 in the first half. 2 of the 3 kicks were absolute shockers too. Is a depth player, and will never be anything more.

Wigg - horrible. Will never play AFL footy for us. Will be delisted or traded for a 4th rounder. Another who looks overweight in the midsection.

Gallucci - better than all of the above, but hardly a starring role. Being the most logical fit to replace Mackay helps his cause.

Poholke - showed glimpses but needs another offseason to build the tank.

Knight - terrific intent and 11 tackles at SANFL level is a rarity. 12 touches though? Not enough. I still think he comes in before anyone else.

Thommo - meh

O'Brien - I'm not opposed to resting Sauce this week. Certainly looked like he needed a rest against the Cats. ROB is ready and willing.

Beech - Largely unnoticeable really. In the mix to come in for Lever (sending Otten back) on accumulated form nonetheless

Nobody else is even worth discussing.

Conclusion:

(If Lever is out)
In: Beech, Knight
Out: Lever, Mackay

(Lever passed fit)
In: Knight
Out: Mackay

If I'm in charge I'm making a statement by dropping Smith, and the forward line would not contain all 4 of Jenkins, Walker, Otten, Lynch ever again. Otten either goes to defence to cover Lever or out of the side altogether. Also not opposed to giving ROB a run, at the expense of Jacobs who can think about how he repeatedly fails in big games over an extended mid-year break.
Walker is injured or playing like he is. He should be ashamed with last nights performance. If injured he must not play as he is offering nothing positive.

Cone on all I hear from this board is it's mackays fault have a look at it seriously I love Sloane he try's and goes in hard for someone if his size but has no real strength nor do either crouch or they don't use it. Greenwood is a lanky dude. We would be better bringing in Kelly if we want some toughness

SNAP.

This is what I mean...the physical size is there in the mix but where is the fierce determination, where is the attacking and defensive intent, where is the team fight?
Yep. Matt has lost that contested fight, his CP numbers are down this year and he seems easily pushed away from the drop zone. Brad is reactive, tackles well in close but doesn't hunt the ball and drops off the contest too quickly, Douglas gives token efforts Sloane is Sloane, no complaints with him. Greenwood straight lines the contest, is good below his knees and clean by hand. Will develop into a very good mid. The rest are outside, but rarely impose meaningful physical pressure.

Some think he is the next coming of Thor his game is good I'm not complaining but he doesn't have the strength we need, we already have talented mids in Sloane and crouches we need a big body who can clear some room Greenwood at 193 and only 90 kilo is lanky

He can bulk up but chose to prioritise his ability to cover the ground and get 'footy fit'...by next year he will be the perfect size.

He's tall, do you think he's got the bulk of those other players?

By the way, Sam Powell Pepper is 187 and 91 and is 18, not 25.
He's pretty strong upper body, doesn't get moved off the ball from what I've seen. He's played 2 games and stuck more tackles than anyone else in our team. I reckon he'll hurt a few with his attack as he gains confidence, which is exactly how Danger/Selwood play. Turn the blowtorch on others.

It's not about turning the blow torch on anyone in particular, we know our best mids are crouch, crouch and sloane we need an enforcer or two to help out

Looking at today's SANFL game nothing in there to suggest a change and Cheney might have got injured.

Gun mids must be drafted or you need to get real lucky ala the cats with clangerfield. In saying that i would look at Hopper from gws who is looking for opportunity.

Can’t believe people are whining about Greenwood, of all people!

Greenwood is going fine with his game he just isn't a hard nut, that's not a crack at him we just need some hard nuts for games against teams like Geelong or we will get pushed around like last night it's not a go at him as an individual

Again, it's up to the Crouch boys to step up. They lack that fierceness and tenacity of a Selwood/Danger combo.Matt has drifted to an outside player this season, when everyone was hoping he'd take Thommo's place. His CP numbers are way down lately. He's still a kid though and doesn't shirk it, he's just lacking that killer fierceness at the contest.

Lets get them closer to 100 games and see how they look.

Was probably your comment to those in the crowd around you that Brown should be tagging Dangerfield instead of Selwood that gave it away. ;)

I'm not turning the blowtorch on him at all, I rate him.

I just don't think physically he's going to be a big bodied mid.
