Nicks is absolutely cooked.
What a clown.
Sholl? Are you f@$&ing joking? How many times do we need to see that he's not up to it?

Meanwhile, in his press conference, Nicks said:
  • He's in no rush to play Curtin - but it won't be long before we see his name amongst the emergencies. Emergencies. EMERGENCIES. Wow what a rush that will be for the kid.
  • He didn't expect to debut Dowling this year. He then backtracked, realising what he had said. Tells you where his head is.

What an absolute d!ckhead. Sack him now.
Back to the thinking that being named an emergency is a reward for a player.

And to completely write off debuting a player like that is absolutely stuffed thinking, but as you said, shows where his thinking is. He wants the same blokes every week and has to be dragged kicking and screaming into a change.

Wait, what?

This is concrete evidence that there is a squad of 26-28 players that he selects from. If you’re not in that squad by the end of the preseason you might as well take the year off.

As this season plays out it just shows how horrendously risk adverse Nicks is and just relies so heavily on those he rates in important roles around him like VB, Burns and Burgess to tell him if there’s a slight problem or give him the go ahead to tinker with something.

Heard someone this week say they’d talked to Darren Burgess and he’d stated recent draftees “weren’t ready to be in the AFL team yet” i.e they have not met his specific metrics he has designed to be able to fulfil the requirements of how they want AFL players physical data to measure up to before they are able to meet the standards an AFL game-plan or Nicks’ ‘shape-plan’ requires, it basically made it sound like Nicks is picking from a list of allowed players from Burgess.

This is us pre-Burgess. Its our DNA.

Wow, he really said that about Dowling? I’d be fuming if I was youngster.

The guy is a ****wit. He’s in save his coaching career mode by playing experienced players, the flog hasn’t realised the changes last week trusting the younger players actually helps you win.

1970crow has been saying this for years.

It's not unique to Nicks either. It's an ingrained club philosophy.

Burns the other week said you’d like to be able to play the same team each week

Just ****ing mind numbingly stupid position to take....

Even if we do eventually build a team who are ready to challenge, the coaches will run them all into the ground and cook them by the time the GF comes because they have NFI how to use a squad.

And you wouldn’t want to play finals, cop some injuries and not have exposed the list.

To think you’d go to a bloke you’ve dropped twice already after playing one game each time.

An utter ****wit

I do wonder if any senior management at the club actually questions if the senior guys are still meeting professional standards required of them otherwise stating Smith has a back issue after he’s been playing all this Golf at Grange this week would surely look a bit iffy…

“Nicks is great, if you want to miss training or a game to play golf, he’s cool with that. We have a great culture that way.”

Is anyone actually surprised?

Nicks is a predictable selector and he is totally gutless.

Kevin Sheedy had a philosophy way back in the 90s. He established that the first 50 games of a young player is the apprenticeship and once they pass that figure they aren't going to get much better. You should know what you are going to get. Beyond that rare players can still find extra gears and continue to find improvement and more levels to their game.

This is a list of players over 50 games and under the 150 mark (150 purely so I can put Murphy in this)

148 Matt Crouch
118 Ben Keays
114 Jordan Dawson
105 Reilly O'Brien
101 Lachlan Murphy
99 Wayne Milera
84 Darcy Fogarty
81 Chayce Jones
73 Izak Rankine
64 Jordan Butts
64 Ned McHenry
57 Harry Schoenberg
56 Lachlan Sholl

All the players above should have established games. For those thinking 50 games isn't that many, thats two full seasons of footy and some. Thats also statistically likely to mean a player has had about 5 pre seasons in most cases. So fitness isn't an issue. The players highlighted in bold are highlighted because of games played and the quality of output they produce.

This is not a good look for Nicks. At some stage you have to rule a line through putting more games into players who consistently demonstrate no upside.

I'm disappointed that Rowie and Tim back the selection of McHenry but its purely because he is a colleague and probably a close friend to rowie now through his fishing. Which again, only highlights the issue that no one is holding Nicks to account in Adelaide and no one in the media is maintaining professional boundaries. Honestly, when King is the best you get, it says a lot about how bad the media is currently. 20 years ago, both G.Cornes and Rucci would have torn strips off Adelaide for their performances this year as completely unacceptable. We hated their comments at times but at least they did it.

Yep.
Clearly a slip of the tongue, but the fact it's in his head...
