Banfield is very useful up the field, providing an outlet and pressure. He’s calm and assured coming out of the defensive 50 with his kicking.
Inside forward 50 as a half forward- he’s completely different. Panics, always looking to pass off.

His best footy is him using his elite tank and roaming around .
I think what Snuffaluphagus observed in the other banners thread is so true and something I agreed with.

Knows how to find the chaos ball inside fwd 50 well and very clean pickup and snap or quick handball. Can let U down running into goal or from set shots. I think can be mental thing with either too much time or overthinking. Very much a confidence player. If that goal went through and didn't skim the post, I reckon he would of kicked the other two

Justin didn't think the forwards were at fault. He put it squarely on the mids.
Mids were shit but the forwards were not faultless. Allowed way too many contested marks by the Eagles defenders. That's a forwards problem.

I know there's some stat about the posession after a clearance and I really wanna see where we rank there, because how the **** are we dominating clearances all game and still only getting like 40 i50s.

Out: Amiss (con), Sturt, Hughes, Erasmus, Walters ("Managed")
In: Stanley, Taberner, Simpson, Chapman, Switkowski

B: Ryan - Pearce - Chapman
HB: Clark - Draper - Walker

C: Sharp - Serong - Stanley
Fol: Darcy - Fyfe - Brayshaw

HF: Simpson - Treacy - Banfield
F: Emmett - Taberner - Jackson

Int: Young - Johnson - Switkowski - Aish
Emg: O'Meara

Walters: Three awful games in a row. Invisible. Rest or Peel next week.
Banfield: Should've had 4 goals really. All very gettable. Still generating chances though and has had more good games than bad this season. Stays in. One more case of the yips and he can have a break.
JOM: Can't understand how he gets a game. Don't know of a single memorable game he's had for us. Should spend the rest of his three years in Mandurah.
Erasmus: s**t today, but always a standout for Peel. Don't know if he gets any benefit from playing at Peel, but gets none being sub either. Give him another game just for developments sake.
Sturt: ******* useless without ball in hand. Unfortunately we literally have nobody else. I love long term KPP injuries.
Johnson: I genuinely pay no attention to him at all during any game this season. Needs to change his shoes. He hasn't stood out to me as good or bad in any game. Bit of a nothing player.
Emmett: Pressure that never pays off. Step off it. But again, no one else.
Hughes: Literally useless. Chapman, Worner, Wagner, I'll take any one of them. Please.

Walters ---> Freddy
Amiss ---> Sturt
JOM ---> Brodie
Hughes ---> Chapman

I want Stanley in. He's got X Factor. Not sure who for but I'd have him in for Ras/Jom/Johnno tbh.
Again.... I will defend Sam Sturt. He wont be and shouldnt be dropped in my honest opinion. Bloke offers next to nothing as a defensive forward or doesnt tackle but he is an accurate kick for goal.

People on here are crying out for blokes that can kick goals. Yeah take away tonights game. Last time Sam Sturt played against west coast was Round 22 in 2023. Bloke got 12 disposals and 4 goals.

Dockers are begging for forwards to kick goals. I love small and medium sized forwards in Sam Switkowski offering pressure and chasing hard, but he doesnt kick enough goals. You definately need a switkowski or 2 type player in the forward line though.

I wanna back Sam Sturt this week vs the dogs in Perth. Watch Sam Sturt kick 3 or 4 goals next week. Tonight is a bad night but I think freo will bounce back vs the dogs.

Sam Sturt has a much better opportunity next week when you bring in our pressure players with Freddy and Switta. If you had an entire forward line of Amiss and Switta you'd lose every week. Sturt was bought in to replace Switta/Freddy. Pressure players. He needed to pressure to fill that gap, and he didn't.

Just going off stats looks like Worner had a really good game in the WAFL. Was also impressed with him in Round 1. Wouldn't mind seeing him back in the team.

Yeah you might be right. Freddy and Switkowski in the forward line

highlights from that famous 2022 elim final vs the dogs. 6 minute and 20 second mark. Frederick chases and tackles a dogs player in the forward 50. the dogs player got done holding the ball and Walters kicks a set shot on goal.

This is the stuff that is missing at freo right now.

Worner played with Hughes round 1.
I would replace Chapman to Hughes, Worner for Johnson and reshuffle the back.
We need goals, and Sturt kicked two, regardless of when or how. He does his job.

Said before the match, Tabs makes Barass and McGovern honest and humble them every time. Jackson is a dumb footballer but an athlete. Had no accountability as a forward. Why not trail Tabs and Amiss with Jackson.

Frederick and Sturt up foeward with Switkowski and Banfield roaming around works.

Going to be interesting to see which version of Jeckyll n Hyde shows up for both sides next week. Both teams cause their fans a lot of angst.....both look good on paper, but have a knack of coming up short....too short sometimes.

Goals don't really matter all that much when you're down 60 halfway through the third quarter.
You can not be serious. I mean, I can’t see anything else that would matter more.
Maybe I’m watching different game, I would have thought that the aim is to kick goals

Who cares

JLo protects his role players and will back his core, giving them the excuse they had an off night

Depending on young's injury and Amiss, max 2 changes

And guess who will be back - Tabs ffs.

Well that better work for him. Needs to start winning to make finals or he’s back on the farm shoveling shit.

We can only play one of Fyfe, JOM, RAS or Brodie.

Fyfe plays until he needs a rest.

We need speed around the ball.Freddy and Switta were big losses.

Hughes is also slow, especially his decision making and no footy IQ.

Chappy must come in.

Would like to see wagner back in when ready.

JOM must go and Raz doesn't look up to AFL level.

Sunny needs a rest can't carry players even if they've been a champion of the club.

Simpson must be close... His speed and skills would help.

Ok I watched the Peel game today and Brodie was BOG. Probably the best game I’ve seen him play for a while, not only was he excellent in the contest but linked up well and kicked a nice goal. Chappy was also very good and had 20 possessions and 7 marks in the first half alone. He also kicked a nice goal playing off half back. Warner was also pretty good while Simpson played his best game and showed a fair bit. Wagner was also ok, but Voss, Deleen and O’Driscoll were average at best. So my changes;

In: Tabs (for Amiss), Brodie (for JOM), Chappy (for Walker), Freddy (for Eramus), Switter (for Walters)

I so agree with you about Will Brodie. It was his link up play that impressed me. I guess the problem is we have no interest in link up play. We far prefer constipated ball movement.

If Jlo doesn’t think we need a big body like Brodie he isn’t the right coach. Just play him and give him a month.

You can’t tell me Voss wouldn’t be a more effective fwd than Banners. Sturt kicked 2 but flinched when it got physical.

Wagner had better ball handling and footy iq over Walker.

Chapman is a superior player to Hughes.

Freddy and Simpson need to be in over the other smalls.

Can Jlo please not wait for the season to be over before making these changes.

Erasmus and JOM were terrible too.

Out slow inside mids playing on flanks. In, strong players and fast players.

Who was the Eagles crab who ran down the wing like JOM wasn’t even chasing him? Was that Cole?

I don't dispute what you're saying about his goal kicking. He is a fantastic set shot and goals are great.

But if you're playing three tall forwards and a cooked Michael Walters, then who is bringing the defensive pressure? Who is locking the ball inside our forward 50 so that we have repeat opportunities to score? Treacy applies great pressure as a KPF, but a lot of the time he's in the pack trying to mark the ball. Does it just get left to Emmett and Banfield then? Emmett seems to be the opposite of Sturt in that he brings pressure but doesn't kick goals and I'd suggest that Banfield isn't a pressure forward, nor does he regularly kick goals which is why he's a typical whipping boy.

We seem to set up a zone outside our attacking 50 to stop the ball from moving back up the field, but teams have just been able to run and handball chain through it recently.

You're big on stats and records. You'd know that you can't consistently kick a large score (e.g. over 100 points) unless you're consistently locking the ball in your forward half, right? That's just how modern footy is played. Scoring opportunities from cumulative defensive output will outweigh scoring opportunities from individual effort in most instances.

Sturt (and Walters, Banfield, Emmett) need to bring the pressure. More goals will flow for all if sufficient pressure is applied, including for Sturt.

Edit: Frederick fits the bill. We just need to clone him 3 or 4 times. :D
I don't think Frederick brings the pressure enough either. Certainly not consistently anyway. And then there's scoreboard pressure and all our forwards are guilty of missing gimmes early in games. If you're going to play this style of game, you have to take your chances in the periods where you're dominating.

I would do a Drum and wake these campaigners up now and get them running laps, monument hill, etc etc

I’d get them kicking the ball for their pay check.
Set shots. Field kicks. Whatever.

Now many put in spudly performances last night but Luke Jackson has been miles off it past 2 weeks. Mis timing leaps getting out marked by opposition spuds. Out of everyone who needs a kick up the backside he’s by far the biggest.
