Changes v Hawks

I was confused what role Thomas was playing today. Saw him on the wing a few times, but I don't know why he's there. His kicking disposal is way below AFL standard. He's not strong, he's pretty quick but I don't think he uses it enough and more importantly he doesn't get the ball enough. In my eyes he's just not a midfielder...neither is Campbell (for now). So I'd either drop him for Garlett who can play midfield and in the forward line or you can put Thomas in the forward line permenantly and evaluate from there.

**** me some people on this forum are a joke (and some are absolute gems but thats beside the point). Never have I heard as much tripe as saying shit like "Oh theres no use persisting with Wright"... The kids not even 21, he's played what? 10 games?
Fair enough if he needs a week in the VFL but saying shit like that gets under my collar.

If some of you blokes had your way Bastinac would be playing VFL regardless of how he's played "Cause hes not kickin goals gud".

hawthornget,
buddy
burgoyne
sewell
shiels back

Buddy - he's just a big lumbering piece of crap these days. Mentally he's shot - looks like his recreational behaviour is taking its toll. He'll never recover his 2008 form.

Burgoyne - unfit - I wouldn't be expecting too much first game back. He's not the messiah.

Neither Sewell or Shiels will be match fit either.

Will Mitchell play after being injured last night?

Smith was recruited as a key forward. The one player in the team that I would see him as a backup to is Drew.

I have never been a fan of playing Hale, H and Goldy in the same team.

So this week I will bring in Smith and drop Goldy as he isn't performing as well as the other two.

I would replace Harding with Garlett as from reports from the VFL he played well yesterday.

Other players who are looking like they need a spell in the VFL are Wright and Gav.

I would keep Warren in the team because at least he was presenting himself.

Eventhough Thommo had a bad game I can't see why you would drop him.

Agree with all that.

He doesn't really have a match up v Hawthorn and he could use a run in the twos.

Grima, Lachie and Spud can take care of Franklin and Roughead. I would prefer us to drop Hunter and put another rebounding defender in the back line (Garlett or Wells).

I don't think dropping the guy who had the second most rebound 50s for us would do any good if we were to bring in a rebounding defender. Hunter had a bad game, give him a few more weeks before we start calling for him to be dropped IMO. His stellar season last year warrants some time.

Thompson Grima Rawlings
Firrito Hansen Urquhart
Anthony Swallow Bastinac
Wells Edwards Warren
Ziebell Smith Adams
McIntosh Harvey Greenwood

Garlett/Cunnington McMahon Goldstein Harding

Out: Hale (Free kick specialist), Thomas (Even the lovers surely cant still be loving), Wright (Completely out of touch)
In: Greenwood Smith, Garlett/Cunnington

imo Harding should hold on this week if the above changes are made. When up and running he can break lines which is something we desperately need, especially against the Hawks.

Thompson is ranked 50th in the competition for R50's and 5th for North players in R50's.

That is a very poor return for him in 2010.

He's lucky Grima has been injured or he would be ranked 6th for R50's.

When I refer to a rebounding defender, I mean one who can provide run. We don't need Thompson v Hawthorn and he is behind Hansen and Grima for a key position role.

I'd go with a side that looked something like this:

B:Rawlings Grima Firrito
HB:McMahon Hansen Wells
C:Anthony Greenwood Bastinac
HF:Ziebell Edwards Cunnington
F:Warren Hale Wright

R:Goldstein/Macintosh Swallow Harvey

I:Thompson Garlett Adams Urquhart

A nice balance of tough and fast players.

One more game for Thompson to prove his form.

B:Rawlings Hansen McMahon
HB:Firrito Grima Wells
C:Anthony Greenwood Bastinac
HF: Adams Smith/Tarrant Harvey
F:Warren Edwards Jones

R:Macintosh Swallow Adams

I: Garlett Urquhart Ziebell Hale

Out: Harding, Goldstein, Wright, Thompson

In: Greenwood, Garlett, Jones, Smith/Tarrant

Hurry up Ed, Drew and young Cunnington.

no way does scotty thompson get dropped, hardly our worst player and can match up on whoever brad scott wants him on,harding, wright, and hale could all do with some confidence building time in the 2's,greenwood,garlett,could come in,hamish needs to lift his work rate significantly,we should smash hawthorn in the ruck, goldy definately stays in,hansen played his best game of the year, firrito very solid, wellsy showing a little more each week, delivery to warren was atrocious, but he shouldnt be no 1 go to marking target anyway, anthony needs to look at his defensive side a bit more, and our tackling numbers should be much more, especially in the forward 50,i would ask brady rawlings to see if he can nullify hodgey for the whole game, which would be half way home to beating hawks, just a few thoughts after watching the replay in the cold light of day, also watched nth ballarat and cunnington not quite ready yet,no need to rush him in just yet

Does anyone think the hawks lack of massive Key defenders would be a good intro for Robbie? I know he didn't light the world on fire this week in the 2's but damn it i'm just so desperate to see him play.

OUT: Harding, Wright
IN: Smith, Garlett

Wouldn't surprise is Pratt came in for McMahon. Wouldn't be totally against it either, despite Pratt's pre-season form.

Why are we calling to drop Thompson, who else could have played on Bradshaw on saturday?
OUT: Harding, Wright, Warren

IN: Cunnington, Tarrant, Jones

Out: Harding and Wright (not too many changes in a young team that actually did okay for 2/3 quarters).

In: Greenwood and Smith.

Thompson a possible third out - Tarrant would be the obvious replacement if he'd shown some more (would like the option of pushing Hansen forward if Smith at CHF isn't working).

Also:
Play our 2 ruckmen about 50% each in ruck, 25% in a FP and 25% on the bench.
Hale should ruck out to the 50 metre arc with the ruckman loose on the wing (funneling their attacks into the middle where if we create a turnover we can really punish the opposition).
We need to fix our HF line pronto. I'll go with a HF line of resting/spare midfielder, Smith, Warren. With a FF line of H/Goldie/Thomas, Hale and Thomas, with Edwards replacing the resting forwards off the bench.

Out: Thompson - Wright - Warren

Harding is terribly out of form. Coming into this year I was hoping that the good form he showed in 2009 where he was both accountable and creative would continue. Unfortunately it hasn't and it does not look like happening in the seniors. He needs to go back and get some good touches in the twos again for a few weeks this time.

Wright is looking more and more at sea out there which is not surprising considering the role he prepared for all summer is no longer his to play. Still very slight, perhaps too much so to play in the back half just yet and appears to be nervous out there now after a few poor games. Let him run around and get his hands on the footy in the twos for a couple of weeks.

Warren has put in a few poor performances now and needs to find touch in the twos. He seems to be rushing it too much and as a consequence ends up stuffing up almost every time he gets the ball.

Greenwood was as hard as nails in the Tigers loss on the weekend and will add a hard edge to our midfield, which appeared to be lacking on the weekend the longer the game went. Big strong body will give a chop out to Patch and Swallow, who did most of our grunt work on Saturday.

Garlett continues to impress for N.Ballarat and his consistent midfield performances and hard work should be rewarded. He will provide more run and skill in the middle than Wright and could also be a handful up forward.

Smith in ahead of Jones, and just. Smith has been providing a target up forward for N.Ballarat and I would go with him before Jones purely because we need a second big marking target. He provides just as much defensive pressure as Jones, and with Hawthorns lack of tall defenders we really could stretch them with Smith's introduction on the weekend.

B: Thompson - Grima - McMahon
HB: Firitto - Hansen - Rawlings
C: Anthony - Ziebell - Bastinac
HF: Harvey - Smith - Wells
F: Thomas - Hale - Edwards
R: McIntosh - Swallow - Greenwood
Int: Adams - Goldstein - Urquhart - Garlett

Thomas gets another week but needs to work harder or Ben10 might force him out of the squad.

Agree with all of the above. Levi could come in, but I didn't think he did enough at VFL level. And anyone wanting to drop Warren is surely joking? He just needs some pressure taken off him with another big body in the forward line.

Calls to drop Thompson are mental. Plenty of credits from last year. Can't promote Cunnington off that performance either. Tempting to promote Greenwood, I think his defensive side and aggression is much needed. Swallow is a maniac at the ball and works his arse off, but he ain't hurting anyone. Wright and Harding were rubbish once again. Wright will be back, just needs a good fortnight in the ressies. Harding is just about done IMO.

Out: Harding Wright
In: Greenwood Garlett

Jones unlucky. Thomas lucky. Cunnington and Pratt 1 week away.
