Combination there of Richmond missing a few (Cotchin/Prestia etc) and Naitanui papers over a lot of our midfield deficiencies.
Newcombe, Mitchell and co should be able to hold their own against us, especially with Reeves dominating the taps

Pretty obvious Witherden playing for his next contract. SPS has been playing on one leg all year too.
Hopefully Trew gets another go before seasons end. At least Simpson is competent enough not to let Nelson back in the side. NWWNRN.

What do we expect Witherden to produce that he hasn’t already shown in his career already? We know what he is.

Has he been given a chance since we played a more aggressive corridor style though?
Don't know what to make of this game, Hawks have been pretty crap the back end of the season but torched fellow stragglers Adelaide last week. We've seem to hit the wall again and we go in without Naitanui and Rioli two of our most important players but the team doesn't look to bad on paper. As long as we don't get blown away early I think we are some chance.
I was thinking the same. Might as well see if there's anything there before a probable delisting.
One thing he does do is play on quickly and take kicks inside - mostly to our detriment - but hey, maybe if everyone is playing more aggressively there will be more movement to pull it off.

If we insist on sending fringe players to languish at half forward, Witherden might be worth a try. I'd rather watch him try over-ambitious passes inside 50 than in the back pocket, and Darling might appreciate it not just bombed long every time.

SPS out breaks my heart, but should be the sub.
Witherden in annoys me but makes sense given he has six weeks left on his contract. It screams one last opportunity and it’s fair to say I think he’s delisted come the end of the year.
Hopefully Trew gets one or two more games before the end of the season just in case.

I reckon they're giving him another look-in before list cuts at the season's end. Same reason they're not keeping Trew in the side and giving X'On a run. Time is running out to make these decisions. When was the last time you saw SPS get 30 cheap touches in the WAFL playing in Witho's spot anyway? Much of a muchness in my opinion, and anything we can do now to sure up who we keep/cut we should be doing.
Can't believe they brought in Witherden, after he single-handedly caused our biggest ever losing streak, infected everyone with covid, broke McGovern's Rib, snapped Chesser's ankle, fed Naitanui cake all pre-season, slept with Simmo's wife and made Hurn go bald.
I am also annoyed that defender Witherden is keeping mid/fwd SPS out of the side

Logic would dictate that Foley could drift back to allow SPS a role further upfield.
Foley was in no man’s land for much of last week.
As it is we’re starting with two HBF players on the named bench. Cool and normal.

Sadly there has been far too little midfield time for SPS this year. Seems his usage in Round 1 was necessity based. Since then it’s been HBF or HFF and nothing in between.

I disagree. Witherden has a set role and is mediocre. In many ways we still don’t know SPS’s best role.
That may be a mark against him, but I believe it to be true.
There’s a player there. Can we extract it? Not if we drop him when he doesn’t deserve it.
