All Australian player and can’t even motivate himself to get fit enough or do the 1%ers.

Symbolises all thats wrong with the club. Takes short cuts with his training and fitness level, shortcuts allowed for him on a training camp, never mentioned for poor performances by media or club, misses weeks for suspension, half puts in for a wafl game and credits gets him back in the side.
Alls ok as long as they can get a snap of a trick shot before a game or during training while his goal kicking has gone to garbage and he can go and stand around at a coin toss once and a while so we can tick community off again..

At the start of next pre season it should be this is what everyone is doing, if you cant complete it you aren’t playing until you do and that goes from player 1 on the list to player 42.. see how fit these guys get then.

Would consider Rotham on a wing for the rest of the season too, FWIW.

I don't know why they haven't done this earlier, he has all the attributes - tall, fast and elite ball user with some defensive capabilities. Instead they've drained all the instinctive play out of him by pushing him into backline and getting him to kick sideways.

It’s understandable that Simmo fell in love with the retention at the back gameplan. It won him - us - a flag, after all.

I just think he’s been far too slow adapting when teams adjusted and we became the hunted. We’re the easiest side in the league to plan against I reckon.

We’re seeing some changes in the gameplan now but by gee the teething stage is painful to endure.

Collingwood got to the same point last year, it's amazing how much they've managed to change in one off-season. Especially with a list that doesn't seem to have a stand-out level of talent on paper.

Simmo has a huge off-season coming up.

Well considering as late as Thursday he was in doubt you surely wouldn’t be doubting their wisdom would you?

We need to piss this guy off at seasons end.

He is a serious liability and his work deserves no more than a 3/10 .............................. and thats being generous.

It's been identified externally, so I certainly hope it has been identified internally that we clearly aren't doing enough in preseason.

I agree with a minimum standard for all players, and as you say - if they can't complete it then they don't play until they do/can.

The camp, I'm less concerned about that to an extent. Different people handle things in different ways - we don't want to go all Adelaide and step over the line. But, if we are going to have a camp where training is the aim, and a player can't handle the camp component for whatever reason (family, illness, injury even) then set the training component as a non-negotiable once they are able. In the case of the camp environment not being good for them, that is fine, go home but complete the training block.

We will look like a much, much better team if we improve our fitness to the required AFL level (especially across our small but important cohort of creative/explosive players - Rioli, Ryan, NN are the obvious ones).

Out: Petch (inj), Kennedy (managed), Trew (to sub)
In: O’Neill, Winder, Clark (from sub)

Backs: Edwards, Barrass, Bazzo, Hurn, Duggan, Jones, SPS
Mids: Kelly, Redden, O’Neill, Shuey, Gaff, Hough
Rucks: Naitanui, Williams
Forwards: Darling, Waterman, Ryan, Rioli, Foley, Winder, Clark
Sub: Trew
Emergencies: Nelson (travelling), Rotham, Culley

I’m assuming Kennedy can’t play back to back weeks at this point. Winder in basically to play for his footballing life.

O’Neill straight swap for Trew who can be the sub.

Clark in as an extra mid, giving us the option of resting Shuey forward or putting Kelly there for a spell to break a tag.

I’m assuming Cripps won’t be out of quarantine in time to catch the plane if his seven days only started on Saturday. Can keep trialing Foley in his role.

Nelson to travel as the 24th man so a more important player like Culley doesn’t miss out on a game.

Not to worry mate, Dad's already got me writing up a program for when I take over as head of S&C at season's end:

1: 45 minute daily workouts - mainly to focus on bicep curls and bench presses. Everything beyond that is a waste of time.

2: Advanced brisket preparation - gotta have the most succulent meat for Simmo's BBQ.

C: Skipping leg day - if we want to be as ineffective as Zac Langdon then we'll do squats and calf-raises. As mentioned above, waste of time.

5: A dedicated longer arms program - an advanced exercise regime combined with SOTA equipment where we stretch player's arms, coz that's where the money is.

6: Mandatory dog ownership - the Stevie Simpson Cup is where the real gains are made.

With a focus on my 7 point plan above, I'll propel us back into finals contention in one off season.
