Hutchings is a too slow and small to handle Dangerfield in my opinion!

You can't tag Danger. He is too good. What you can do is to make sure others around him don't lift. He is in career best form right now, he was BOG against Pies. He was also BOG last 4 games of the season. What you can do is limit TK or Stewart( He is important to them) then Danger is irrelevant. No one in Eagles team ( or any other team in AFL) can slow him down. If Danger has 3-4 other players up and running, then we are in trouble. Noticeably, Hawkings, Kelly and selwood to be specific. They will come and come hard, if we can take their best punch I think we should still have enough class and recent form( also form at the G) to win comfortably.

Dont agree.
Any player can be tagged. It is a matter of :
1. Whether the tagged opposition player is of high impact
2. who are you scarfice to do the tagging.
3. whether you have a suitable player to do that.

No doubt Dangerfield is quick and skillful. He has very high impact as we can see at the 4th qtr of the Geelong - Collingwood game.
If you have watched the GWS - Western Bulldogs game, you will changed your mind as Bontempelli was also regarded as "untaggable".

We already know how to shut down their midfield and have done it many times. Yeo goes to Danger to keep him accountable, including following him forward, as he can compete in the air.

Hutchings tags the next best mid. Used to be Selwood but now it's Tim Kelly. I'm pretty sure Kelly will go to water with a hard tag.

Schofield or Barrass to wear Hawkins like a glove.

This leaves Nic Nat, Shuey, Redden and Sheed to get offensive in the midfield.

I watched every game last week and most of the home and away games as well. Bont is good but not at Danger level. Danger has more speed, more lateral movement, stronger core, stronger in general and also faster on that initial burst with ability to go either direction. Trust me when I tell you at this point right now, Dangerfield cannot be tagged out of the game by anyone. Yeo can give him a different look but end of the day the only player that beats Danger is himself really. He is a nightmare, but we can take away his team mate's influence and that should be enough. dangerfield around 25 touches with 2 goals is a win for us.

Just need to bring the heat. Collingwood made Geelong look really slow on the weekend and that’s what we should be aiming for. Pin them down on half back and they don’t have the marking power to go with us + our counterattacking kicks will slice them up. NN should at the very least give us a breakeven in regards to Dangerfield out of the centre. If we give them space though they’ll most likely do the same to us.

No, he's not that good. He's certainly nowhere near as good as Tim Kelly. Just check on the Geelong trade threads if you don't believe me.

Danger was a fair trade at picks 9 and 28, TK is worth 2 x top 10 picks. Or even 2 x first rounders + Brander. Therefore it's pretty clear. Kelly is much better than Dangerfield and Danger is good but not that good. So we should be tagging TK.

He really isn’t.
Where was he for the first half?
Only shows up when it’s desperate time and that’s usually him busting through, getting the ball and hacking it forward. Never made to defend or be accountable, just pure offense.
Looks great on the TV and the commentators make sure every possession is applauded.
Doesn’t hold a candle to Yeo when it comes to tackling and defensive acts.

When we move the ball forward quickly we slice open the opposition. So more quick ball movement and less sideways possession. Hurn, Jetta, Shepherd and co need to back themselves in to hit their targets.

Isolating Blicavs and Harry Taylor will go a long way to getting the points. and not letting Tom Stewart play the intercept role. I am pretty sure that Rhys Stanley will be the sole ruckman unless Chris Scott omitts him again

Waterman to Stewart to take him up the ground.

Things that make me confident:

Yes it's Essendon, but we put in a solid 4 quarter performance against Essendon. Was a sight to behold at times. Our fast ball movement is scary. If we're quick enough we can stop Geelong from setting up.

Nic Nat is a beast, as has been said so many times. Can do so much for a big ruckman and just lifts the team.

The face of our smalls could trouble Geelong, who look slow at times.

Cats just seemed impotent in forward 50 against the Pies. Granted the Pies have a solid defence, but they just didn't look dangerous, aside from a bit of Dangerfield and Kelly magic, but as usual too little too late.

Duncan and I think probably Rowan (?) out. As someone said Duncan tore us to shreds in round 6.

Our good MCG record, and the Cat's poor one in finals. Cat's home ground record flatters them, worst minor premier I can remember.

Things that make me not confident:

Geelong's miserly defence - and periods when other teams have shut us down for quarters. We'll need to adapt, and find ways to score no matter what the situation.

While we have a good MCG record it's still in Victoria, so crowd could also come into it. At least the crowd won't be as lopsided as if we were playing the Pies or Tigers.

Danger, Kelly, Myers, Tuohy, Parfait, Narkle etc getting loose and breaking through our defence, which has looked a bit brittle at times. We need to be sharp and fast.

All in all, I think we'll be too good, but I can also easily see it going the other way. I expect quite a congested, contested affair with lots of stoppages, where physical on-ballers will be key. Think it'll be close, and it'll take a fair bit out of both teams. Good luck to the winner, as it'll take a mighty effort to oust the Tigers after this, but one week at a time.

I'm pretty sure Kelly will go to water with a hard tag.
Yep, he is known to go missing at times and while he has a lot of media hype around him, he is still not a complete rounded player yet i.e-dealing with hard tags.
But another year or two at WCE and he'll be the business! ((;

Scott: Mitch Duncan won't be available. I’m not really in a position to give much more of a longer term outlook.

Tim Kelly is coming home with us confirmed

IMHO there more I try to analyse the upcoming game the more I think this is the general blueprint to winning. Geelong are slow as treacle but content to setup defensively and wait for the turnover when they have to. To beat them we need to run 'n gun through the middle and not get hemmed up on the wings playing the stoppage game. Individually their defenders cant physically cover all of Kennedy, Darling, Ryan and Cripps at the same time so their game I reckon will be to slow the play when they don't have possession and get the extra back into defence. If we can run/ kick through that before Geelong can get setup and get our forwards one-out against their opponents then the goals will come thick and fast.

We lose this game by playing slow football and f*cking around with the pill at centre half back.

Can we just sign Kelly now so he can just sit on the sidelines in our coaches box :tearsofjoy:
