-Brander needs to play defence.
-Allen needs to play forward.
-Jetta must take all kick ins.
-Cameron needs to come in.[ in between plays he can give tackling lessons].
-Williams needs to come in and we rotate our rucks up forward.
-Heres another one for the purists to tear their hair out.Why cant JK have a run through the midfield? His days of pack crashing are over.He would relish a the freedom of a run through the middle.Hes a strong mark, long kick, tough, kicks left, great passer but most important ;a good decision maker.
-Reddan and Sheed are struggling.Too slow for the style of footy being played this year. One of them to have a holiday??
-I dont rate Ah Chee but he had a crack last week.

They are not too slow for the style of footy we are playing. We are playing a wet, in close, slow movement grind out a win style and we have our best outside mids being smashed and bashed in close by bigger bodies whilst our bigger bodied inside mids are watching from the flanks.

Play Redden and Sheed on the ball slogging it out in the trenches where they play best.

Shuey looks cooked he's that bashed up already. Yeo picked up a shoulder injury and Kelly is trying but the slippery conditions restrict his clean ball movement due to the pressure being applied in close.

Come on Simo it isn't hard mate!

Could we shuffle Yeo back to the half back where he was aa now that we have Kelly? Would allow sheed more mid time which should help sheed get more into it. More damaging and creative backline then. Bit of a risk to move yeo again and mess with his game style but maybe worth it.

Very random thought and a curve ball but finding place for talls is hard. Could we ever play nic nat as a mid/fwd rotation? Hunts the player and ball as good as any at ground level and massive presence around the ball to worry other teams. Doesn't have the tank of a mid but in bursts. I have a vague recollection of pre knee 2018 that he was at centre bounces sometimes with Lycett rucking.

Yeo back good call

True! Shuey is being used/volunteering as a battering ram and hes already struggling.

As much as I'd like to see Yeo chop on the HBF for the shiggles, we can't keep parking mids back there, particularly as we have depth in that position.

Until Cameron is available I think we need to roll mids into the Cousins role. HFF/mid split. The two most able to play that role well are Shuey and TK Would be happy for them to share that on a 50/50 split.

That leaves Yeo, Sheed and Redden to play in the guts where they do their best work. It simplifies the roles for the players who have no versatility. See ball, get ball, dish ball out the back to Gaff or work it forward to Shuey/TK parked in an offensive position. Either of them can hit the scoreboard, evade pressure or deliver i50 to advantage.

If those primary inside mids can't find some form in those roles then they can **** off to the weekly scratch match, Cameron comes in and Shuey/TK take increased midfield minutes.

Brander isn't going backwards, think we'll persist there for a block of games.

Gaff needs to be running past the contest into space as the ball is passed to him, not hanging back where he will inevitably kick an up and under around the body.

This requires sheparding and more team work than we've seen thus far this year to free him up to be able to run into space.

Agree with what you've said. It all seems so … obvious. So I'm not sure why we're not doing it.

The only times Gaffy actually runs past he runs on the wrong side to receive for his left foot. I can only presume his opponent doesn't let him run past on the favourable side.

That's usually in open transition play though I've noticed, not as part of a stoppage structure. Maybe I'm not paying enough attention.

Totally agree with the earlier sentiment about Gaff being flat footed when he's the outlet receiver. Between he, Shuey and TK on the outside of the contest we have plenty of skill to be able to work it forwards instead of the consecutive backwards handballs to Gaff retreating then kicking a lollipop.

Need to drag RojJo out of retirement to stop this from happening then.

Another thing we used to do is push Willie and Flyin' out to the midfield (usually out wide, so imagine a triangle where Darling/JK is in forward 50m and Willie and Ryan are out and to the sides from there. The points of the centre square maybe?) and sometimes even further into defence, as an outlet. Obviously Rioli is out but we don't seem to be doing this anymore and we have no outlet when there's a turnover and we try to surge forward.

It's just horrible at the moment, there doesn't appear to be any structure.

Ryan - Only jogging/walking will be a test later in the week but probable to play
McGovern - Ligament strain, garden variety ankle roll - test later in the week
Cameron - Played 40 minutes in the scrimmage, pulled up well, Vozzo says it's a "slow build"

Shuey is actually going in too hard in some instances. As the skipper I cant fault his effort and putting his body on the line but just look at who he's up against size wise. We dont want our best clearence mid getting turned into hamburger meat.

I never thought I'd see the day someone suggested Kennedy to the midfield (never mind the fact that he can't keep up with lumbering tall backmen anymore) but here we are

Kennedy to the backline and gov forward! Bookmark it.

Personal message, post resuscitation and coma recovery: Just kidding!

Brander spending time on the wing is a great investment. He's building his tank, learning what is required for a high half forward. I honestly don't care about this season. He's had clangers but so what. I want development of the younger players this year.

The biggest problem the club will face this year will be the phase out of JK and Hurn. Captain and vice captain. I don't think they should play on next year as its obvious they've dropped off. Kennedy can't keep his feet anymore. The legs go first.
If you're Simmo do you take the losses and honour the champs this year or be aggressive and drop them. Hard call. Not sure if he has the seeds to go full Belichick

Thi is so. Exciting in a way isn't it.

He may be shorter but Shuey is quite stocky. He's listed at 90kg so he should be fine.

Just to kill the idea of Yeo going back into defense.

#1 at the club for contested possessions.
#1 at the club for tackles (by the length of the flemington straight. Ave 8 per game, next best is Kelly with 4.6)
#1 at the club for stoppage clearances

I'd say it says more about the clearance and contested posession work of Shuey, Kelly, Sheed and Redden at the moment.

Considering we're getting beat up around the ball, statistically he's fairly crucial at the minute, despite his lackluster start.

I think he'll benefit from a bit of clean ball outside of a stoppage. It's been a while since i've seen Yeo get the footy in space. Might help with his confidence.

Except he doesn't look fine. He looks cooked after two games.

He was in doubt for the Lions game with soreness and hardly trained during the week. In the Lions game he got smashed up even more and had his lowest output in years. Stayed down a couple of times after big hits.

And we are coming up against some big inside mids with Port and lack quality ball movement in space.

But we are all fine! No need to adjust anything.
